55th of winter 511 AV

Coren took a deep breath of the crisp morning winter air as he walked through the windward boardwalk park at a brisk pace, it was one of the few day's he had a free day so he did what every nromal and sane person would do if he had not very much of free time alone. Practice his magic away from most vantha people, Slowing down as he reached the less visited outskirts of the park and began to look for things he could anchor his shields to as he began to practice. He had shielded his own door and hands for what seemed like a hundred time already, coren felt it was time to make his practice a little bit more difficult.

Coren didn't have to look much further for what seemed like a perfect spot to practice. A bench and a tree stood beside the path through the path, the hedges restricted the view towards the spot so it wasn't very likely he was going to be spotted either.
Pulling his hands out of his pockets he took a deep breath to stiffle the excitement he was feeling as he prepared to use his magic and let his mind run over the options he had with shielding. He pretty much had blocking out light down and he was craving for a bit of variety. Deciding to Span a shield over the path that blocked out sounds, the distance would be quite a challenge and it wouldn't have been as noticable as a sudden black veil crossing the path.

Reaching inside of himself for the djed coren began push it out through his hands, pushing the djed with the force of his will in between the hedges anchoring it to the hedges at both sides of the path stringing the djed in between them a smile coming on his face as the mass of djed was slowly forced into the shape of the shield he wanted it to have. He felt a sense of excitement at the ease of his progress of his shield, it seemed all his practice had been paying off, since it was a lot easier then he had thought it would have been at first. He stopped pushing out djed as he pushed the last of the shield into the shape he wanted to and began to focus on the brightly glowing strands running through the shield and reached out towards those strands and began weaving them into a pattern that would block out sounds. As he finished the shield he looked it over a few times. He didn't see any flaws in it. But he still had to test it out to make sure it worked completely like he had wanted it.
Coren picked up a fairly big rock and walked closer towards his shield, sticking his arm and the rock through the shield and dropped it. He smiled as he didn't hear the rock hit the ground. It seemed this shield was a complete succes.

Dismissing his work with a just a thought he turned towards the other objects he had chosen and his mind once more began running over the options he had at his disposal, maybe he could span one over the tree. Or cover the entire bench with a shield that would repel light. Coren's train of thought ground to a halt as he realized something.. why should he keep shielding against things like light and sounds anyway? The entire art of shielding was almost made to block against solid things and since it was going so well why didn't he try and shield against a rock or something?
His mind set on his next course of action coren once more grasped the djed inside of him and pushed it outwards as he began to span a shield between the ground and the front of the bench, creating a makeshift ramp with it before he once again tried to weave the strands making up the shield into a pattern that would block stone. It was quite a bit harder then he had initially thought though. The strands that would fit into place with ease when trying to command them to block sounds, light or other lighter tasks almost seemed to try and avoid being pushed into what he thought was the right pattern. Coren wasn't discouraged though and continued to concentrate on the stubborn web of djed in front of him. He didn't know how long it had taken exactly but after what felt like half a bell he finally managed to let those strands stick in the pattern he wanted to. Picking up the same rock from a while ago with a bit of a giddy feeling in the pit of his stomach and dropped it on the shield.

The shield buckled underneath the weight of the stone and coren saw the fragile pattern snap, the djed he had invested into the shield evaporated into the air in less then a second and the rock hit the ground with a dull thud. Coren stared dumbfounded at what had just happened, he had been so sure the pattern had been completely right so why didn't the shield block the rock? Gritting his teeth a little he once again drew from the reservoir of djed deep inside his soul and went back to work. He was going to figure out what the heck he did wrong.

Coren tried and tried and tried again to create a shield that would be able, in his fixation he didn't notice the silent murmuring that was starting to sound in his ears and he completely had lost track about how much times he had already tried to create the same shield. Letting out a small growl of frustration as nothing he tried seemed to work! As he began pushing out some more djed for the next shield coren suddenly felt a little dizzy with his vision slowly warping as if he was looking through a bent mirror, a few black spots also began creeping into his vision. Before coren could even utter a sound of confusion or wonder what the heck was going on the black spots suddenly swalowed his entire field of vieuw and coren knew no more.

As coren slowly regained consciousness he felt himself being supported underneath both his arms, with his feet dragging along the ground.
“Wha.. what the petch happened?” Coren tried to force out, but somehow he managed to mash the entire sentence together into one unintelligible string of sounds.
“Don't try to talk. We are taking ya to the healing center right now.” A voice sounded somewhere from his right. That answer chilled coren to his very core, the healing center? Had he overgiven and made a mess from himself? Coren quickly shoved that morbid thought away. That couldn't be, he didn't feel anything wrong with him... though now that he was thinking about it he didn't actually feel much coming from his body. His eyes flashed a dull greyish brown as the fear about what the heck happened to his body began to sink in.

As the people where dragging him to the healing center the feeling in coren's limbs slowly returned. The only thing that was worrying him was the strange wet feeling on his hands together with what seemed like a few spots on his hands that felt as if he had touched a way to hot pan. How in morwen's name had he screwed his hands up like that? He tried to force open his eyes and tried to look at both of his hands. At what he saw coren let out a sigh of relief, the only thing wrong with them were more or less a dozen perfectly circular shallow wounds on both of his hands, bright red blood was slowly dripping out of it. He had been afraid he had lost a finger or flayed both of his hands.

He had been so focused on his hands that he hadn't noticed that they arived at the healing center.
“Is there a doctor here that can help right now? I think this guy needs some help, I found him lying in the snow and his hands got pretty strange wounds all over them.”the man who held him up together with his friend yelled out. Coren looked up from his hands when he heard that.. only a single thought flashing through his mind.. how the petch was he going to explain this?

Backlash (Oluse)

Postby Oluse on February 21st, 2012, 11:52 am

Attentively, Oluse rushed forward, his eyes flowing over the injured man with trained ease and dedicated attention. Recognition only took a moment, but his personal feelings for the librarian were sidetracked by more troubled thoughts. His brow simply furrowed to what he saw, and his head literally cocked slightly to the side. His eyes still trained on the wounds, Oluse spoke low and calm. "Please, bring him to the room to the right here. Try not to move him about too much. What." He paused again, as he started leading them to the emergency room, stealing a double take of the wounds, then continued his speech and stride, "What happened?" His words were in Vani, but not fluent. He had a thick Denvali accent, recognizable by most Vantha.

"Don't know," The Vantha savior replied with honesty, "We just found him out in far corner of the Boardwalk, layin' in his own bloodstained snow. Looked like he had quite the romp by how the snow was disturbed too. Was lucky he didn't get snowed over." Oluse rose his hand up, signaling the man to stop talking. The Vantha had such a way of getting away with their words at times, and Oluse was trying to figure things out, with as little unnecessary information as possible, still not trained enough to take in every detail at once.

"How much blood?" Oluse requested, as he opened the door to the emergency room. No answer came, and Oluse dismissed the question, looking to Coren instead. He couldn't remember the man's name, but tried to look straight at him as he was pulled onto the large heavy table in the middle of the room. "Sir, my name is Oluse, I'm a trained health professional. You've had an accident, and I'm going to help you. Ok? Can you tell me what happened?" After Coren was set upon the table, the man supporting him went to move away. Oluse put his hand out, and simply said, "Stay." Enjoying having a stronger person there to hold Coren still, and keep him from falling over. Coren didn't appear very steady.

As Coren responded Oluse made special effort to look into the man's eyes, and take stalk of his overall physical demeanor. If he was shaking, how aware he seemed of his environment, his posture, if any other pain was evident, if he seemed to be aware of his wounds. He also watched the wounds, to check how heavily they were bleeding. If Coren was in any risk of bleeding out Oluse would have to sidetrack the interrogation to stop the bleeding, and treat the wounds with minimal information. If the man was tipsy he may be under the effects of some drugs, or perhaps just be low on blood. Oluse, to this thought, gave a distinct sniff of the air, trying to pick up the aroma of alcohol on the man over the pungent smell of the clinic.

The room itself was small, holding in it a large chest, a complex table which Coren sat upon, stalked full with emergency materials in the shelves at it's base, and adorned with intimidating looking leather traps on the top. In the corner was a large shelf of drugs, and juxtapose to that a tall cabinet. Lastly, only a step from the table, stood a desk, ready for Oluse to work upon if anything had to be prepared.

Coren didn't react at first as the doctor and his savior dragged him off towards an emergency room and the man who was holding him up lead him towards a large and heavy table that was standing right in the middle of the room, a few though looking leather straps, grabbing a firm hold on him when he tried to shake of the man's hands and climb on the table by himself before practically lifting him on the table, ignoring coren's few indignant mutterings as he did so.
As the one who was treating him, suddenly popped in his field of view coren was finally pulled away from the pressing question how the hell he would explain this later and back to the present day.

As the rather young and familiar looking boy asked what the happened to him he kept silent for a few moments, trying to figure out what to say. He didn't know exactly what happened, but he already had figured out that he had overgiven but he couldn't just come out and say that without his mom finding out as soon as he left the damn hospital.
“Dunno, probably just fell or something, I'm hurting more then enough all over for that.” Coren managed to form that into a half decent sentence as the fog had been clearing out of his head.

“Don't remember much, was just taking my walk and next thing I know he,” He pointed to the man still steadying him with one of his bleeding hands, whincing underneath his mask as the sudden movement stretched on his little wounds. “Was dragging me to this place.” He paused for a few moments and shook his head, as if that would help clear the rest of the fog out of his head.
“Besides shouldn't you be taking a look at my hands first? They are starting to hurt more and more.” He held up both of his bleeding hands so Oluse could get a clear look at them. The blood slowly dripping of his hands and on the thick robe he was wearing.

Backlash (Oluse)

Postby Oluse on February 26th, 2012, 1:47 am

Oluse watched his patient with a stern and disapproving look. He didn't believe Coren, not whole heartedly anyway. The wounds on his hands were not caused by a fall, and he didn't show any of the signs of broken bones. Oluse hadn't had the time to look for bruises or others wounds, but he guessed that aside from perhaps a concussion the man had no proof of a fall. This either meant he was trying to construct what he couldn't remember, or he was outright lying to Oluse. At this point Oluse decided to dismiss the accessory man in the room, in hopes the privacy would insight some truth from his patient.

First, he reached out and carefully grabbed Coren's hand, to keep him from waving them about any further. His eyes looked over the hands, not just the wound, and noticed red splotched, with intermittent white marks. "That is because feeling is returning to them... Sir" The sensation would be followed by a severe case of pins and needles, then followed by another wave of cold numbness till finally the pain of the wound would ring true. "You are going to feel a tightness, and then some scattered pain. Try to hold still."

He then reached for a small bundle of cloth on a shelf below Coren fixed into the table. Within the bundle were instruments and materials necessary to wrap large wounds. He decided to wrap all the wounds together, for speed, not wanting his patient to become any more light headed as they spoke. And, a carafe of herbal water to clean the wound in his left hand. "That's enough, Sir." He gave his word's offhandedly to the man he had asked to stay, as he quickly started preparing the cloth to clean Coren's wounds. "Leave." The word was simple and abrupt, he had no pleasantries to give anybody but his patient, and even that Oluse could tell would wear thin soon enough. "Give your address to the Whitewatch outside the door." He firmly but carefully grabbed Coren's wrist and began working, thinking how much easier it would be if the man would lay down. Tactfully deciding not to ask, for he seemed defiant.

Then, as an afterthought, before the man left the room added, "Thank you. You may have saved this man's life." The wound's were not bad, and Oluse knew well enough that he could stop him from any lasting repercussions, but Oluse also knew that untreated in the snow, even for a Vantha, could have been deadly. As the man passed through the door, Oluse continued to clean the perfectly circular wounds, taking full advantage of the natural numbness the man had left in him. He developed a theory that perhaps they were blisters or welts that had been torn or cut off, even that didn't see right to him however. As he did so Oluse spoke to distract the man from the pain. "It's true you know, whatever happened could have killed you. You need to be more careful.

Nobody is listening now, we are alone." He clarified encase the man in his state had missed that. "You can feel free to tell me the truth now." He stopped a moment to look Coren in the eyes, making it clear this was more of a demand than a request. Then, moved onto wrapping the first hand with stretches of pristine cloth, to stop the bleeding, or further agitation to the bizarre wounds Oluse was still dumbfounded by. He worked very quickly, wanting to get to inspecting the rest of the man's body encase the numbness was worse than he though, or there were some supplementary clues to what had happened. Every few seconds he cast a look over the man, trying to spot any further bleeding, or discoloration in the man's face and body.

Backlash (Oluse)

Postby Coren on March 10th, 2012, 10:05 pm

As the boy who was tending his wounds spoke up and explained why exactly it began hurting again right now and warned him to hold his hands still as he began to gather what he needed to fix him up.“Sure I'll hold it still. But I am not feeling a pain like you are describing.” Coren said when the boy had sent the man that had found him out of the room. “Its more like the sensation of having hot ashes rubbed all over my hands then a feeling of tightness.” He grimaced underneath his mask as the boy began cleaning up his wounds, pulling his hands back in reflex. “Be careful will you!” He snapped at the boy. “Those are MY hands you are screwing around with! He took a few deep breaths to calm himself down before offering his hands again.

“Sorry bout that, didn't know what came over me.” He quickly apologized too the young man in front of him. Blinking once in confusion as boy mentioned he could throw the truth out in the open.
“Well Like I said, I really don't have a clue as to what exactly happened to me. One moment I'm taking a walk through the park, the next somebody had dragged me all over to the whitevine center because I was lying unconscious in my own blood.” Coren said in a slightly annoyed tone. “And I would like to be careful, but like I said. If I don't know what happened I can't do anything to prevent it can I?” He didn't feel a single bit of remorse at the fact he was lying to somebody who was trying to help him. The boy in front of him probably didn't even know what magic was, let alone how to fix up people with overgiving symptoms and he wasn't going to risk being discovered about something as minor as this.

Backlash (Oluse)

Postby Oluse on April 7th, 2012, 3:33 pm

Oluse's lips pressed together in a moment of agitation. He was upset, though he wouldn't have wanted to admit it. He was trying to help the man, and for that he needed explanations, knowledge. It hurt him to be left in the dark, to not know how the esteemed handler of books' hands had become so ravanged. Still, after a moment his lips released, and his eyes relaxed into more of a sympathetic look. His patient wasn't going to share what really happened, and pressuring him wasn't going to help, not until he was feeling better.

"Very well." He forced the slightest of smiles, though he knew he was no Pycon, it couldn't hurt to try. It failed, so he stopped, returning to his more genuine remorseful expression. "I'll stop asking for now." He looked to the second hand and forearm and began repeating his previous treatment on that hand. "Lets continue treating these wounds, and get you fixed up. Ok?" He then lapsed into silence, giving his full focus to treating the wound, and studying his patient. He had forgotten, in the months preceding this, how nice it was to just be silent, to not split ones attention. He hated talking, really hated it, and Coren was offering a chance to circumvent this obligation of medical practice. Why would he complain.

As the silence offered Oluse more attention to direct toward his patient's body he quickly began to realize signs he had missed before, overlooked a simple fatigue. His eyes were red, though not simply bloodshot, he wasn't sure what he was looking at. His mannerism were alarming, manic, though he didn't know the word for it. He knew it was unstable, bad. What alarmed him the most is they weren't sluggish in the least, as those of the manics he had seen in the past were. He was moving quickly, expectantly, with little cohesion in his shiftiness. That's when the thought arose, perhaps he should call that guard back in. Healing is of no good if you yourself become injured.

He would give it another few minutes as he finished up the second hand. If Coren improved he would continue, would ask Coren to allow Oluse some more thorough investigation of his body. If not, then Oluse would call the guard in. He was firmly set in one decision, however. Oluse had never detained a patient before, but he wasn't abashed to start then. Coren seemed dangerous, not only to himself, but others.

Coren :

1 Observation
1 Storytelling

Lore
Overgiving Leads to Emergency Attention
Covering Up the Cause of an Injury

Other
N/A

Notes: Too bad this got cut off as it seemed like it could have gotten pretty tense and interesting between you two. Coren must have gotten quite a shock when he realized how badly he overgave. The points are pretty explanatory, the subterfuge is for trying to lie to Oluse.

Oluse :

1 Interrogation

Lore
Suspecting that a Patient is Lying
Determining if a Patient is a Danger to Himself or Others
Diagnosing a Patient Who Won’t Tell the Truth
Medicine: Bandaging Wounded Hands

Other

Notes: Too bad this got cut off, it seemed as though it could have started getting pretty tense and interesting between these two. A lying patient must be very challenging for a healer and trying to figure out the best course of action. Oluse definitely had to think quick on his feet on this one. I think my points should be pretty easy to understand, I gave investigation for trying to figure out what happened to Coren despite his lies and leadership for directing the random guy around.
