Alister Whitecrest Physical Information Race: Svefra Birthday & Age: 21 years, born 25 day of winter AV 490 Gender: Male Language:
Physical Description Distracted. It’s hard to explain how that is a physical trait, but it is. He holds himself differently. His hair is long and tangled, as though he cares little about it. He is tan and well-muscled, like any Svefra. He has a short, scraggly goatee. His hair is a dirty blond, originally brown, the outer layer bleached by the sea. His eyes are, like any Svefra, a vibrant blue. He has a well defined jaw and prominent brow-ridge. His eyes are set back in their sockets. His nose is crooked, having broken it a number of times, and his lips are well defined. He is taller than average, but also has broader shoulders, so he just seems bigger. Character Concept Alister’s respect is very hard to earn. Having been raised in the sea, he has a rather skewed perception of what is powerful, or difficult, or impressive, seeing as the ocean in storm is his standard. In his experience, there is very little more terrifying than a summer gale at sea, and nothing nobler than a sailor who can sail through one. Due to this, he is very hard to impress or intimidate. This makes him at any given time, either brave, or reckless. Alister has a very short attention span. He can’t do any job for a long period of time. If something takes a week or more to finish, than you better not hire him. This is offset by how obsessively he gets enthralled by anything interesting. He becomes incredibly involved in his interests for a very short time, and then burns out. A perfect example is his ship. He built it in a week. Yes, the planning, the preparation, and the resource gathering all took more than that, but to actually build it, he spent a week with only five 5-minute food and/or bathroom breaks per day and only 7 hours of sleep all week. Character History Alister was—and still is—in the Whitecrest pod. He still communicates regularly with all the members of his pod, but he has decided to use his own boat to try some…business ventures of his own. Regardless, he was raised with his pod in a rather average Svefra childhood. It was when he turned about twelve that his father began to teach him Reimancy. Apparently, he had learned it from his father, who had learned it from his father, who had learned it from his father, and so on, supposedly since even before the Valterrian. For a few more years, Alister learned first the theory of Reimancy, and then actual use after being initiated. Initiation remains the only experience worse than sailing in a storm. With his newfound magic, which he had an uncharacteristic respect for the power of, Alister became an asset for his family. Whether defending his ship against angry merchants unhappy with a recent “deal” between them—ie. Mearchants trying to reclaim their stolen goods—or simply helping in everyday life a little, Alister’s knowlage of Reimancy became important on the ship. When he turned twenty, he decided to build his own ship and travel separately from the rest of his pod—though not independent of them; if his Lia were ever to command him back to their ship, he would return and sell his own in a heartbeat. Post Creation Spring, 512 During the first day of Spring, 512, the great storm of that year hit. Alister, having the heart of a Whitecrest Pod member, had the thought to, instead of hide from, try and ride the storm--he intended it to be the first storm he ever piloted solo, so he would have the best first storm story ever. He wasn't a good enough sailor and was forced overboard, where he took shelter under the water in a magical pocket of air. He suffered tremendous overgiving and other injuries due to the storm, but survived, washing up on the same shore as the wreckage of his boat.
