Perrin

Physical Information

Race: Human
Age: 24 Years (Born 21st of Winter, 488AV)
Gender: Male

Physical Description

Image

Perrin is thin, but strong. His body is bound in wiry musculature, the taut cords very visible without any notable fat to hide them. All in all, his frame weighs in at one-hundred and fifty pounds, and measures five feet eleven inches. His feet are a bit wide, and their undersides are rough, linking in to a bony ankle and slim calf. His right knee bares a faded scar across the patella. The "worn and scarred" motif continunes across his body with scars across his abdomen and left bicep, though not as faded as the one on his knee.

His face remains unmarred, unless a small amount of omnipresent stubble is to be counted. His mouth is a bit wider than most and his nose a bit more rounded, but his deep set, angular brown eyes make up for them. A mane of slightly unkempt dark brown hair frames his face. finally a small scar provides a break in his right eyebrow, with hair never growing from the scar tissue.

Character Concept

Personality

Perrin is, first and formost, a very merry individual. He is always one to laugh in the face of danger, or anyone and anything else. Some find his sense of humor hilarious, others bizarre, and still others downright irritating. Perrin does not show any signs of disturbance in the presence of a humorless individual, though.

Perrin is also very extroverted and oppinionated. His way of life has led him to a very individualistic point of view - he believes that, no matter their upbringing, people are free to make whatever they want of themselves. People are creatures of free will, and should value the choices and actions they can make because of that. In the prescence of the downtrodden and the depressed, he encourages them to make whatever they want of the world even as he tries to lift them up with his joviality.

Interests

By nature, Perrin is a very curious individual. He is willing to explore all nature of activities, be it magic, cooking, reading, writing, sport, combat, music, or any other concieveable notion. He believes that people should experience as much as possible in their lifetimes.

Religion

Religion is a very odd, very formal topic to Perrin. But he believes is is also a very necessary one. He believes in most gods, and that the world is brought into balance by the many different gods, their domains, and their mentalities.

This belief can be seen in his "personal pantheon", those gods that most often see adoration from him. Foremost are Syna and Leth, the Goddess of the Sun and the God of the Moon. These two have always been present in Perrin's life, and he venerates them both - they are the most likely to see his actions, afterall.

Next are Lhex and Tanroa, the God of Fate and Goddess of Time. Perrin considers it foolish to deny the existence of either. He respects and venerates them as well, although he does not expect to ever witness direct action by either.

Finally, Priskil and Eyris - The Goddesses of Hope and Wisdom - both recieve adoration from Perrin. His love for them stems from his individualistic ideals. The concepts of Hope and Wisdom are driven by the self, so therefore Perrin is grateful to the gods for providing both the means to individualism - to discovering oneself - and the means to overcome life's perils. Hope is as strong as any armor, and Knowledge as sharp as any blade.

Character History

Perrin was the first and only son of a man named Favian - he never knew his mother. Favian was a traveling troubadour, writing and singing verse as he followed trade lines from city to city. He had always told his son that "Our lives reflect the lives of the people". What he had meant, Perrin later found, was that the charity people were willing to give a travelling artist was heavily dependent on how well they themselves were doing.

Favian was a suprisingly effective father for his son, despite being constantly on the move as well as a single parent. The road would be a good teacher for his boy - different places offered different lessons to be learned. Favian was convinced that the varied knowledge and skills their situation provided for Perrin would be a boon in his adult life. It seemed that so few people left their communities, although he could also see the reasoning behind it. His emotions overrode that reasoning, however. He was a poet, a singer, and a traveler in his heart, and he would rather die than give up that lifestyle. It was this sort of idealism that he passed down to his son.

And so Perrin grew, travelling the roads with his father. Favian found his son as eager to perform as he was, although the nature of his performance was different. Passing through Eyktol, in the scorching desert weather, Favian and his son encountered a small troupe of Benshiran acrobats. They had perfected the dance of their people, and had gained mild popularity by emulating those dances on tight-ropes, and by integrating more difficult acrobatic maneuvers into the more subdued routines.

When they found that a member of that same troupe was traveling as well, Favian lept at the opportunity and offered his son in apprenticeship for the duration of the trip. The man accepted, and in the same night had the young Perrin practicing basic techniques. The trip out of Yahebah and later Eyktol was a long one, and Perrin was well on the way to being a respected acrobat himself before he had to part ways with his master. By the age of thirteen, he was performing in the cities, same as his father.

He seemed to have matured into the traveling performer's role, bringing in coin almost equivalent to his father - however much or little that was. They were able to live comfortably for a few years, riding with the caravans, singing and tumbling wherever they happened to go. All was good, for a while, and both father and son were able to enjoy the full depth of their relationship.

Perrin's "professional" run with his father lasted until he was nineteen years of age. Around that time, Favian was stricken ill with some an unidentified disease. He and his son were travelling with a caravan out of Syliras, and any hopes of getting to a healer were fruitless - civilization was days, even weeks in either direction. He died on that caravan.

Perrin was deeply saddened, for a while. He found, however, that he had little time for mourning - he buried his father as respectfully as possible, and followed the caravan back to Syliras. On the way back, the mercenary hired to protect the caravan took him under his wing. A grizzled man by the name of Armand, he was a far cry from the gentle natured Favian.

Perrin would spend the next two years under the tutelage of Armand, who worked for the Starcleaver bounty service. He would only spend two seasons under the employ of the Starcleaver mercenaries directly, and his martial talent never extended beyond unarmed fighting. Armand would, however, sow the seeds of a fighter in Perrin. He would be remember amiably, for that, even as Perrin left in the middle of the night, without so much as a goodbye.

In the next leg of his life, Perrin, stricken with wanderlust, headed to Zeltiva. He began working at the docks, and renting his own apartment. After a week, he also enrolled in the University. He found the fact that they offered instruction in magic fascinating, and quickly signed up for a course in the Flux - an obvious place for an ex-acrobat to start.

Perrin found plenty of satisfaction in Zeltiva. He caught on to the Flux easily enough, and also found that it made his acrobatic displays all the more impressive. He did not find as much time to "tuck and tumble", as he called it, and he thought he felt his skills dulling. Regardless, he trudged onward with his studies and his work at the docks.

It wasn't for another two years - this time at the age of twenty-three - that his wanderlust struck again. Thoughts of his deceased father plagued him, as surely as he felt the road calling him. Perrin dropped his studies and his job almost immediately - cutting short an introductory course in hypnosis and a theology class studying the nature of the gods. He sold whatever most of his possessions, and set out once again. He felt no regret.

He has since returned to travelling between cities, putting on his acrobatic displays in order to scrap together the mizas necessary to keep his lifestyle together. But no matter the hardship, it feels right to live the traveler's life once again.

Skills, Arcana, & Gnosis

Flux - 25 - 0

Perrin considers the Flux to be one of the most intimate forms of magic. It is about knowing oneself, body and soul, knowing your capabilities and your limits. It is as much an art as a tool to him. Like other magics, he views it as an ability to be honed through which one can express themselves, be it martially or artistically.

Unarmed Combat - 20 - 0

It is of utmost importance to be able to defend oneself, and one's ideas. This is a truism for someone such as Perrin. He fights using a mix of techniques from various martial arts, a combination of many styles learned from many people on the road. Thus, his form is ever changing as he applies his amalgamous style to combat in a broad variety of ways.

Acrobatics - 15 - 0

(+15, Racial Bonus) Acrobatics are the first real passion Perrin had, before fighting or the Flux, and long before Hypnotism. This method of artistic expression can also be used to generate the small amount of coin necessary to sustain Perrin's lifestyle... or so he hopes.

Hypnotism - 5 - 0

Hypnotism is a much more recent development than the Flux. Perrin is a self taught hypnotist, an ability he discovered as he pondered the concept of Djed and the manipulation of such. He finds the manipulation of the minds of others a dubious concept - it is too easy to take advantage of it for personal gain, and it infringes too much on a person's free will. However, to be a hypnotist means you can recognize hypnotism - the easiest defense against it. Perrin hopes to affect others only in the most subtle, gentle way possible as he learns the art. Whether he can hold to that ideal, however, is another matter.
