An inland sea created by Ivak's cataclismic fury during the Valterrian, the Suvan Sea is a major trade route and the foremost hub for piracy in Mizahar. [lore]

Just off of the northeast coast of Black Rock is a most unusual formation. Several large stone spires jut out from the waters. No one knows what formed these, but it is often assumed that they appeared during the Valterrian. These rocky towers reach high into the sky, and are, on a clear day, visible from Black Rock. They cover roughly two to three square miles of water. They also extend deep down into the waters, ending in a rocky base.
There are two very unique features to this area. The first are the very unusual currents that flow between the spires. The currents are always shifting, changing, and this makes them incredibly dangerous. It takes a highly skilled sailor, usually in a small, Svefra craft to just survive going through. Just as it is deadly above, it is equally dangerous below. Charoda on seahorseback have been known to become severely injured or die. Thanks to all the deaths and injuries, the name Myri's Teeth came about in both cultures.
Now, it isn't difficult to avoid Myri's Teeth, a mere detour will keep them out of harm's way. The Charodae have reasons for wanting to venture in. They attempt to navigate the dangerous undertows and currents for a chance at obtaining a few handfuls of the extremely rare Gilded Kelp. This kelp is one of the highest forms of delicacies among the Charodae. It never needs to be cooked, it is incredibly nutritious, and will last an incredibly long time without spoiling. No Charoda has ever managed to transplant the Gilded Kelp back in Charbosi, and Myri's teeth is the only place it exists.
The Svefra, one the other hand, have a different treasure in mind. Roosted at the top of the spires are a very rare type of sea bird called the Tiktik Caw. The bird in and of itself isn't of much importance. They are very difficult to tame, are not particularly tasty or nutritious, and their feathers don't even make for good pillows. Their eggs are highly prized, but not for eating. Eating one usually results in death. The eggs are obsidian black, just like the chicks, and are very hard to steal from the nests. The shell and albumen of the egg contains a strong paralytic that only takes effect if ingested by anything other than the Tiktik. This paralytic can paralyze even the heaviest of predators, which in the Suvan, equates to death.
The shell can also be made into a black dye when ground up and mixed with milk. The milk appears to neutralize the paralytic and make it nontoxic. The milk can come from just about any creature, though some make better color mixes than others. The Svefra will often try to climb the spires at a chance to get a few of these eggs, for they are a strong bartering item with foreigners, especially the Eypharians. |
