Gills fluttered in the watery currents as the wide eyes of an astonished four year old looked all around herself in wonder and amazement as she headed into the underwater forest. Her little hand clasped her mother's K'lila's hand as they kicked their way into the sheltering strands. It was her first time here and she was spellbound and enraptured by the beauty of life which was around her as she remembered her mother's words
Land people seemed to think that their tall trees , forests and jungles were filled with life; and big. Asada thought they might be right since she never had seen such things... 'like maybe they were the size of two of her house. That would be large enough... right?' But nothing could prepare her for the size of this underwater kelp forest she found herself in. But weren't land forests dangerous filled with predators? Her momma had said it was different in a kelp forest, here the sea creatures came to hide from the predators, and this morning the little girl wanted to remember where this was just in case she ever had to come here.
But such thoughts had long since fled her head at the sights before her. Rooted to the ground deep in the darkest parts of the water it rose like a tower of entrenched branches of green tumbling upwards towards the sun above the waves. Even if the little tyke could talk underwater, Asada wouldn't have, she was speechless after all.
Kicking her tiny feet, the webbing between her toes helped her forwards as her mother began to show her a whole new world she could have never possibly imagined... all thanks to the blessings of Laviku. It was strange to think such a thing could have been created by a god, or a goddess. Little Asada was still trying to wrap her head around the notions that there could be beings who could live for an eternity and do wondrous things. But here, in this silent temple to the great diversity of life amidst the seas... the little woman was beginning to take her first steps to truly believing such things were possible.
And it started with the most peculiar of things as she kicked harder to help her mother bring them to the surface amongst the green vegetation... A sea otter.
