Bad News Everybody. School is picking up, Exams are beginning to happen, homework is growing time consuming, I may soon be evicted from my apartment, I'm dealing with severe and physical fights among several of my best friends, and I can't seem to find a time to get much needed sleep. I'm terribly sorry, but don't expect to see much of me for a long while.

Lusa made her way down the road, her odd gait making it look like she was leaping along. She was repeating to herself the directions that the clerk at the Establishment had given her./

"Go southeast of Sunberth, along the road past the slave markets on the south side of the river, follow it to the south woods, and follow the signs for the Carver Brothers..I hope I remember it right.."

She mumbled to herself, hoping that she hadn't mistaken the directions. She knew that she wasn't the smartest, but she was almost always able to follow directions to the tee. She had taken the clerk's advice to heart about wearing bright colors, and had foregone her dark cloak, wearing only her light blue shift. She had just begun to think that she really had gotten herself lost when she finally came upon the workshop.

"Hello? I'm here about a job!"

@Lusa

Keith wasn't always in a good mood, though he did try his best to be as nice to people as possible. However, this morning had left him in a rather soured mood. But all that changed when a woman walked in asking about a job. For starters, not many women wanted a job at the shop, except for a few of the svefra travelers who seemed to want to get some lumber and keep their casinors at the small dock on the bay the brothers used for transporting large quantities of lumber with the bay barges when using wagons wasn't an option.

Granted they were outside of sunberth, so things around here were a little more peaceful. That didn't mean it still wasn't loud in certain areas. The shop when the yardwork was being done always was filled with the echoes of saws, the smell of sawdust, and the men of the yard helping the 'Carver' brother out with hauling the wood back from the southern woods from the wagons. Then there was the maple grove for harvesting syrup in the fall and the corkwood grove they had kept as well for viable work with those. Barrels wouldn't plug themselves you know.

But coordinating in all in a morning when you had a cold was a monumental endeavor, hence why before this new woman walked in he had been in a sour mood. Smiling at Lusa, the man paused a moment. "Oh we're always hiring new workers. Woodcutters mainly to go out and chop down trees though we do have an apprenticeship spot open for those who feel they can learn it all. Last one which was here was pretty good, save that nasty business of having to leave when someone was out for his head. Though, truth be told no one's safe in sunberth. There's even some bandits that try to steal from our shipments at times. Which brings me to you, my dear. What type of employment are you seeking again? The woodcutter job or the apprenticeship? Tua's missive wasn't quite clear on that. Have you ever used tools before?"
Thank you all for the privildege of moderating, unfortunately with deaths in the family and ailing health I am retiring. All thread grades I had on my pc have been forwarded to founders and paragon, so expect them posted soon.
It's been a mixed bag at times , but with all the good and the bad and mixed signals, I can honestly say: Thank you. Please support the next mods of sunberth as well as you have done me.

Lusa looked up at the man that approached her, and was for some reason inordinately happy that he wasn't talking down to her. She got that a lot. People sometimes looked at her and assumed that she was stupid. Granted, she wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed, but still, she wasn't simple-minded.

"I'm Lusa. I was hoping for the apprenticeship, to learn all there is to know about...wood stuff!"
She said enthusiastically. She became somewhat more sedate as the bit about bandits registered in her mind. "Eh, I don't think I would be very good at fighting bandits...And truthfully, no, I've never used tools like these before.." She said uneasily, as she looked around at the many unfamiliar objects. "Unless you count cooking utensils. Which you probably don't."

"Well my dear, I guess I can give you a chance to learn. So long as your willing to work hard and apply yourself." Keith said before coming around the counter to take Lusa by the elbow. The young woman was lead towards the back of the shop, "Now no one does the sales but me, but the workshop is free to use, and the storeroom has the tools you'll need. There's also a bit of honey and medical supplies for when the workers get injured. It doesn't happen often, but sadly we are using axes and other sharp implements."

The workshop was rather spacious with several tables and chairs and enough space for a few people to work, there were barrels for cooling of tools, acids held in the back for reetching them. Sharpening tools for axes, knives and awls. And any number of assorted vises and grips for holding woodworking items. "Normally we'll leave instructions or orders for you to cut or do once you begin to get a little bit better, but now let's take you out to the yard."

Lusa was lead out to the Yard where Kander was chopping wood as the rest of the yard workers scurried around. Labor was cheap in Sunberth for the most part and business was booming. There were many other men there working the saws, and only one or two other women who were usually drivers of the wagons loaded with wood.

Some of them looked at her and smiled, others whistled cat calls and flexed their muscles. "Now, I usually say to all apprentices that they are required to learn as much of the trade as possible from the woodcutting forays into the south woods, or the actual carving within the shop. So expect to be out here a lot. If you are interested, it'll be 3 gold mizas a day. Does that sound right?"

oocIf you accept this then I will set up an SS thread for you for 3gm/day :).

Lusa grinned ecstatically as she heard that she was being given a chance. Following Keith to the workshop, she marveled at the many tools that would be available for her use, and she would do her best to learn what each one was for. The sharpening tools she recognized, the same things were used to sharpen kitchen knives.

As she was lead out to the lumber yard, she smiled and waved back to the workers that acknowledged her. These people had the skills that she needed to learn, and perhaps later some of them could be persuaded to teach her.

Lusa nodded vigorously as Keith explained what was expected of her, which was to learn aspects of this business. "I understand!" She chirped, saluting her new boss the way she had seen humans do. "Three gold mizas every day?! That's great! I accept!"
