Center of scholarly knowledge and shipwrighting, Zeltiva is a port city unlike any other in Mizahar. [Lore]
by Nira'lia on March 22nd, 2012, 4:02 pm
17th Spring 512
The city was still in quite disarray. Just the other day, a fire had erupted in the docks. If memory served her right, it was the doing of a crazed mage. Zeltiva, just like every other place, had been affected massively by the great storm.
Many people were attempting to help get the city back in shape. Nira'lia, while not an expert in medicine, had been trying to aid the injured in the past few days. Many times she found herself sighing and wiping the sweat off her brow; but she was hopeful -- her mother had said that things would slowly be surely be back to normal.
The Konti woman held several bags of bandages in her arms. Because of her small frame and the weight of what she was carrying, she could barely see ahead of herself. Aside from that, she was quite hungry! Food was scarce in the city, and they were doing their best to get by. The fatigue, stress and hunger seemed to be taking a toll on her as she fought to keep her feet moving.
’There are many who are worst off...’ the girl reminded herself. She felt terrible for those who had been affected greatly by the storm. Just days after the storm had cleared, many had come to her mother's aide, screaming and asking for their fortune. Desperation filled her eyes as they asked about their missing family members.
Even if she was familiar with suffering, Nira'lia felt very uneasy. At the moment, as she walked through the streets of Zeltiva on her way back home, she avoided the looks of the people that she passed. The Konti woman forced herself to hum a familiar tune, trying to find comfort in the most juvenile things.

Phlegmatically, not caring, Canrehne was walking through the streets of Zeltiva. That busy afternoon, her body and her hands were still not clean. Glassbeak blood was dried all on her, and visible stains were left. She looked like a butcher. Like someone who has slaughtered a lot of beings for.. nothing. But that was far from the truth. Canrehne, with her arms somewhat lazily dangling by her side. That busy afternoon was nothing for Canrehne. Canrehne's walks were long, dull and boring. She didn't mind all the weeping people around her.
But at once.. she bumped into a female who was carrying a bunch of bandages. Upon impact, some of th bandages would probably drop out of her hands due to the overload.
"Apologies, let me help you." Canrehne said, squatting down before slowly facepalming, pulling her headdress up a little. How clumsy she was.. what was going on to her today? |

"Oh...!" cried Nira'lia as the bandages fell from her hand, scattering everywhere. She watched them flutter to the ground, and she stared, mouth agape. Why was she always bumping into people? Nira’lia scratched the back of her head in dismay. The road was filthy with mud, surely most of the bandages would be dirtied and she would get a hefty scolding later. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I couldn't see where I was going...!" she said quickly, not really looking at the other person as her eyes were downcast on the mess she had made.
She rushed to lean down, gathering the bandages back in her arms. They bundled in her arms in a messy heap, and she noticed that other person was moving to help her as well.
Nira'lia looked up quickly. She was going to say that she was fine and the person didn't need to bother, but instead, her reaction went to instant panic. The lady wore exotic clothing, along with a headdress that, to Nira'lia, resembled an overturned jar with large handles. However, of course it was not the lady's outfit which caused the Konti to stress. It was the dry patches of blood on the other woman.
This caused Nira'lia to flail in panic, quickly tossing the bandages to the floor and rushing over to the woman. The shriek which she let out made several other people turn their head to see what the commotion was about. "Tell me, where are you wounded? Please, sit down, and let's take a look at you!"
The Konti woman gestured towards the side of the road. This girl needed attention immediately! She took a look from the woman from head to toe -- and resisted the urge to linger a stare on her headdress. Nira’lia could see no visible signs of any open wounds. Was she injured in a place Nira’lia could not see? Nira’lia shook her head at the silly idea that maybe the headdress was hiding an injury – no person who lost that much blood due to a head injury could possibly be walking around with this much ease!

Canrehne sighed, starting to pick up the bandage rolls, one by one. "I'm terribly sorry." She said, still kneeling down in the mud, slowly picking up the bandages.
Upon hearing the questions asked in panic, Canrehne looked up at her rather mysteriously before flashing a smile. She then took a moment to gently shake her head from left to right, picking up the bandages that Nira'lia didn't due to the panic all the blood on Canrehne inducted.
"I'm all fine." Canrehne said, chuckling at her because of the amount of care she has shown to others. Such an amazing person she was! Even though Canrehne wasn't wounded, she would love to spend some time with this person due to the amount of care shown to Canrehne. More than anyone other than her parents has ever shown her. The person, unlike some others she knew, was quite nice.
"I'm all fine, thank you." Canrehne said, now with a polite smile on her face. She then continued. "Canrehne." - Introducing herself, she hoped she'd make a new friend here, in Zeltiva. After the Djed storm of 512 AV. |

The other woman responded with a calm demeanour which would have been odd if she had a serious injury. She introduced herself as Canrehne. Nira'lia looked at Canrehne with much distress. The people around them seemed to go back to their businesses, although some did eye Canrehne suspiciously, probably having the same thoughts as the Konti woman.
"I don't understand...!" said Nira'lia. She looked at Canrehne closely, her brows creased in puzzlement. "How can you be fine?"
The Konti woman pouted as she realized that this woman might just be like her--a healer. It wasn't a strange occurrence to get blood spilled on you when you were around the injured all the day. It was quite odd to be walking around nonchalantly as Canrehne was, but that was the most plausible explanation Nira'lia could think of. She thought of taking a quick glance at Canrehne's chavi just to confirm her thoughts, but she thought better of it, not wanting to see more images of the injured.
All of a sudden, she just felt silly.
"My name's Nira'lia," replied the Konti woman. "I apologize for jumping to conclusions... you must be a healer as well," she said the last statement as if it was the absolute truth. She gave Canrehne another wide smile. Her eyes sparkled with delight, for she was overjoyed for meeting another one like her. "That's a nice headdress, I was just thinking that it looked like an overturned jar,"
Nira'lia didn't even think twice about how her observation sounded absolutely absurd. She leaned down again and started to gather the bandages once more.

Canrehne looked over at Nira'lia, wondering what was confusing her so much. Perhaps, it was the blood that had the individual startled. Perhaps! Upon hearing the confirmation of Nira'lia's confusion, Canrehne chuckled, replying shortly after.
"I just do things that nobody wants to do, you know." she said, carefully inspecting Nira'lia with a polite smile on her face. She picked up the rolls of the bandage, some were draping more than others, but they were still in a decent shape.. well, other than all the mud that was on them.
It's all fine, Nira'lia. It's a pleasure to meet you.. and I'm not a healer, by the way. Guess again! Canrehne said, still looking at her from beneath her ornate headdress. Though disgruntled at first, Canrehne chuckled after hearing the comment about her headdress looking like an overturned jar.
"Is that so?! I don't get that a lot! she said, smiling the poor, somewhat rude but unintentional comment away. |

Nira'lia looked up in puzzlement as she nodded in gratitude at the help the other woman was giving her. She wondered what Canrehne was talking about when she said things that nobody wants to do. Well, being a healer really was a tough job -- in a way, Nira'lia agreed with the statement. That was why when the other woman said she wasn't a healer, Nira'lia was quite surprised.
"Oh, then what do you do?" blinked the Konti. Thinking that she got all the bandages, she got up. The only bandages that weren't in her arms now were the ones Canrehne had gathered. "I was almost sure of my conclusion... and it does look like a jar!" laughed Nira'lia. Her expression said it all -- she didn't realize the tactlesness in her statement.
Still smiling, Nira'lia held out her arms, asking for the rest of the bandages.
"Thanks for helping me! Here, let me take those!" |

Canrehne stopped upon Nira'lia asked her what she was doing. She took a very deep breath, examining Nira'lia with a smile. "It's somewhat tacky, I'd say. I'm a spiritist." she said, smiling somewhat teasingly before chuckling at the jar comment, slowly lodging the bandages into Nira'lia's hands.
"It was my pleasure to help you, really. I love helping people.. and spirits. And other things. Just like you do." Canrehne slowly uttered, observing the mud-ridden bandages that were in Nira'lia's hands with a slight frown.
"I think we need to clean these up.." she said, standing up - still focusing her gaze onto Nira'lia. |

"A spiritist...?" as soon as she heard it, Nira'lia felt her neck prickle. She had never met a spiritist before. "You communicate with the dead?"
Ghosts were not unheard of, and she knew there were a number all over Zeltiva. However, the thought of them was still spooky to Nira'lia. She also felt sad about them -- why couldn't they move on?
She followed Canrehne's gaze and looked down at the mass of bandages in her arms. She shook her head fervently, ashamed to accept any more help from this girl. It was evident in her uneasy expression.
"N-no, I can't bother you for anything more!" she exclaimed. "I'll... I'll see you around, okay? Just... curiously, can you call and speak to the dead? If yes, where can I find you?"
Yes, she had never met a spiritist before. And, yes, she thought the idea of having one as a contact was appealing and helpful. She remembered the dozens of people who mourned for the lost ones, and she wondered if she'd have an answer the next time they spilled their regret about the things they were not able to say to them.
There was a huge chance that she had the wrong interpretation of spiritism. If she misunderstood it, this woman in front of her could clear her clouded understanding.
Nira'lia smiled at Canrehne, ready to go -- she just needed to her the woman's answer before she did. |

"I don't think communicate is the right word. Rather, interact." Canrehne said as Nira'lia seemed to be in awe. Looking at the bandages in Nira'lia's hands, she spoke again. "I really think we need to clean these up." she said, looking at Nira'lia, even though she didn't want Canrehne's help.
Canrehne sighed, smiling after. "Yes, I can, I pretty much can. And interact with the undead.. the risks are, I can die, though.." Canrehne said, a slight frown appearing on her face "Mere interaction with the undead or ghosts is quite a risk, because I'm not.. really skilled. I'm more of a Legate, but yeah.. I think I could try something." Canrehne said, looking at the bandages that Nira'lia had in her hands.
"Okay, fine.. I can communicate with ghosts and to some degree - the undead. Look.. you can find me at the pier pretty much every night. I usually dance at the very edge, so.. yeah." Canrehne said, smiling at Nira'lia in a rather friendly manner. |
