History
Born to a family of wealthy merchants in Zeltiva, Izlude Vane was raised in an environment of luxury and comfort. Being the third born of four children, he was often overlooked in favor of his younger brother's artistic talent and his older brother's duty to carry the family name, Izlude however, had his mind. Often, this led to the young boy questioning things such as the suffering of the poor, his family’s greed and rivalries, and the concept of birthright. Often he had spoken to the poor and his closest friend Daniel was amongst them; it was a trait that roused a disdain in his father and many times he was scolded for intermingling out of his social class. Izlude however knew that the poor worked, lived and bled just like as everyone else.
This way of highborn thinking however was not limited to simply Izlude’s father, but was a trait passed on to all members of his family save the youngest of his brothers, Lars. Cecil, the oldest, had a nasty way of singling out Izlude whenever chance allowed it and quite often Maximillion, the second-born joined in. Lars would turn a blind eye during these incidents yet would council Izlude in their wake. He wasn’t particularly close to his family, nor anyone for that matter besides his youngest brother. It was a relationship that would be maintained not only in his childhood, but loosely even in adulthood, something he would be grateful for.
A turning point in Izlude’s life would occur at 12 years old age while playing lightheartedly with his close friend Daniel roughly an acre from his family’s estate. The two of them had met up to play near a fishing nursery owned by his father and childishly, Izlude had ignored his chores and labors in order to sneak out and meet with Daniel. As usual, the both of them had resorted to fighting with sticks, lightheartedly barraging eachother with faux swings, a moment of fun that would continue off and on for an hour or so before Cecil finally managed to find his little brother, and to much displeasure. Not because he was ignoring his chores, but simply because he was playing with Daniel, someone Cecil deemed unfit to associate with anyone of Vane blood.
Taking to ignoring Izlude, Cecil focused his aggression on Daniel and what would at first seem like a series of rude, yet menial insults would soon grow into a barrage of painful verbal lashes and finally malicious physical berating. Moments passed and initially, a stunned Izlude would watch on the sidelines before he felt an anger swell in him, a bubbling explosion of bottled emotion. Taking his stick, Izlude violently beat Cecil in the legs, and then, attempting to redirect the violence on his friend, pushed Cecil which resulted in the eldest falling backside from the fishery dock and into the lake. Daniel had been spared of torment, but at the expense of the accidental death of Izlude’s eldest brother. It was a crime that would go unforgiven for a lifetime, the act of kin-slaying.
The young boy’s father, Rudolf Vane V would show no mercy to his son and a reluctant mother would follow suite. However, he was a Vane and due to the pleading of his mother and a newly outspoken Lars, Izlude received a drop of affection. Instead of being utterly abandoned, he would instead be stripped of all inheritance rights and sent by horse carriage to Syliras to serve as a page to the Syliran Knights. To his father, it was a required life-long payment of debt for what he had done, something that perhaps could atleast redeem his spirit and to his mother, it was a comfort, to know that her son would be in the hands of noble people with righteous ways. To Izlude though, at the age of 12, it was exile from his family and separation from his beloved Lars and Daniel.
Life serving under the Syliran Knights wasn’t what Izlude expected and on his long journey to Syliras from Zeltiva, he often imagined the grandeur of eventually becoming a Knight complete with glory and fame, something that he’d soon find out wasn’t the case. Syliras wasn’t completely foreign to the Izlude, he had been to the vast city with his father numerous times, mainly because the family business required his father’s presence. He remembers giving a shudder as his carriage rode by “The Welcome Home.” The orphanage didn’t necessarily have a grim look about it, but regardless, it was one of the few instances where he felt thankful for his fate, his family could have very well sent him there.
As many joining the Syliran Knights upon arrival, he met for the first time, Ser Erik Rainstrom. A living relic, Izlude was both fascinated and terrified of his appearance, mostly due to his missing arm, severed ear and ultimately scarred visage. Perhaps a rude comment was made of these which earned the young page a slap in the head while presenting his papers. Alas, as young boys do, Izlude would grow, rose by the tutelage of valiant Knights and on a glorious day, attain Knighthood as was his purpose. Still though, Izlude retains somewhat of a scorned personality and carries a scar of his childhood in his heart, a factor that has made him a quiet and solemn individual with few, but close friends. What lays in the future however, is yet to be known for the young knight.
