Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

Spring Day 50, 512

Syrah was not a social bee, but she thought the Kite festival looked fun. She had also heard that wine and beer would be plentiful, and she couldn't wait to get her hands on some Riverfall wine. As she walked into the festival she looked around. People of all ages and colors were strewn about, talking laughing, drinking eating. She spotted the kegs of wine and joyfully poured herself a glass of thick purple liquid and cautiously took a sip.

The drink was amazing and the flavor filled her mouth, lingering even after she swallowed. Syrah was instantly in a a better mood and happily walked around the area. In the next minute she passed a pet stand, normally she would revolt away from the animals, scurrying little vermin, but today she stopped to take a look.

In a small cage on a leash and collar ran a small little ferret. She smiled at the thing and reached down to pet it.

The man behind the stand scolded her before she touched the animal, saying she had to buy it to hold it. It wasn't the animals cuteness that lead her to buy it, it was the man telling her what to do. She absolutely hated when someone told her what to do, and to show this man up she paid the small fee of 2gm and picked up the ferret.

The man thanked her and asked if she needed anything else. Never had she had a pet before she was unaware of the need for a cage or anything else. Totally forgetting that animals needed to eat too, so she didn't buy any supplies. She held the thing in her hands and watched as it squirmed and wriggled about.

Kite Festival Surprise

John watched as a woman started to pass by, and he decided to move into action. He scampered to the front of the cage and clawed at the bars there, getting her attention. She was about to pick him up out of the cage, but was stopped by the pet store worker. John cocked his head sideways as she gave the man a dirty look and passed him the two coins to buy him.

Happy with the current turn of events, and as the man unhooked the leash from the cage and handed it to the girl, John took one moment too exact a little bit of mischievous revenge on the store owner. Ferrets, related to skunks, had a similar scent glands near their rear end, though less potent in a ferret. He hissed, then raised tail and ... well, there's not a much better word for it then farted so, he then farted at the man before crawling into the girls hands happily and getting released from his cage.

Speaking of the girl, he sat up on his back legs for a minute and looked at her face. It was a pretty face, with very nice blond hair across her shoulders. As she started to move about, he sat back down into her hands and waited as she began to take him somewhere. And with any luck, somewhere where he could get his collar off and be free to do stuff. Though, since he never really had much to do, he would probably stick around for awhile with the girl. He watched they walked slightly unsteadily forward. His sense of smell could smell the alcohol on her breath, which explained that. Well, he always wanted to have an adventure.

Kite Festival Surprise

Postby Syrah Steele on April 15th, 2012, 8:50 pm

Syrah was about to leave the festival with the ferret in her hands, when she passed by the wine kegs again. She couldn't resist she filled up another cup and drank the goodness. She knew she was going to get drunk two glasses was enough. She had a very low tolerance for alcohol ironically one would think she could drink tons of wine before becoming drunk since she was a wine maker after all. But no, she got drunk very easily, and her personality changed, for the better some say, when that happened.

She hurriedly went back to her home in Kuahala Estates then, she didn't want anyone to see her drunk. As she walked up and down the roads she could already feel her legs giving way and swaying, she tried looking at the ground, but it moved beneath her feet and didn't help. Then she remembered the animal in her hands. Looking down at the ferret she saw it was a cute little animal. An elongated body, unnatural to other mammals, and it face, oh its face. Two beady little black eyes that seemed friendly not harmful and a long fluffy tail that quietly swished every so often. The animal was looking at her, scouring her face and she looked back, admiring how cute the animals was.

How could I have thought he was a little vermin? Syrah thought, Hes so petching cute!

She arrived at her house then and unlocked the door, ready for a nap. She was about to put the animal on the ground when she realized then that he needed a cage of sorts.

"Petch" she cursed. Then ran back outside looking for a box of some-kind. She saw a pile of crates in a nearby alley and quickly picked one up, hoping she wasn't stealing. She set the crate across the room backed up to the wall and lined the bottom and walls with one of her bed sheets then she sat the ferret that she had yet to name in the box and hoped it wouldn't escape. Then she saw the ferret had a tiny little collar on his neck and it looked uncomfortable. Poor thing she thought as she unhooked the collar and set it aside.

Kite Festival Surprise

Postby Dex on April 15th, 2012, 9:16 pm

John watched as they swayed slightly in the street, wandering down to where most of the Riverfalls people who liked the beach lived, the Kuahala estates. He liked the Kuahala estates, especially since they were close to his den. All sorts of things they had there, things that he likes, shiny things. He had crawled through the ducts and other tunnels through the buildings. It wasn't that he was a thief, it's just that he likes shiny things, and doesn't understand ownership real well.

They entered in her house, and she then cursed. For John, he just ... didn't hear curses. They didn't make sense with his mind, so he just ignored it. She walked to the opposite side of the alley, and carried a crate in. He then was placed in the crate, after she put a bed sheet in it for comfort. Of course, with him being a ferret, he could probably climb out with his claws and using the bed sheet.

He turned around a few times in the box, and then looked at her. He was going to want to stretch his human side eventually, and she really ought to know he wasn't just a ferret. Talking to people was fun most of the time, except for those official people who made mean comments at him. Something about public nudity being immodest or something, and that he couldn't take shiny things. And without a further thought and an instantaneous flash of light, he stood up in human form. He gave a big yawn and stretched out his arms above his head before looking at the girl now, who was busy having a shocked expression on her face.

"Well hi there" he said pleasantly.

Kite Festival Surprise

Postby Syrah Steele on April 15th, 2012, 9:48 pm

Syrah was about to lie down on her bed when she took one last look at her new pet. He was currying around his home and then he lit on fire. No, no not fire, he became surrounded with light. The light was only present for a second, but it seemed to grow, into a human like shape, then it disappeared. In the lights place was a very tall human man. A very tall, naked, human man. He had short brown hair and pointed ears that looked similar to her ferrets ears.

Her ferret! The large man probably crushed the poor thing! She was already standing up, when she jumped in shock, and she saw no sign of a live or dead ferret in that cage. She looked back up at the man you had just spoken
"Hi there", he yawned. She skrieked a bit and fell back onto her bed. She looked him over again and remembered he was naked. She closed her eyes, unwilling to think that the man was handsome.

"There is a naked man in my house." She whispered to no one.

But where was the new pet!? Thats when she remembered a story her mother once told her about a race called Kelvics, a race that could shape shift into any animal they wanted. He mother was mistaken at that point, as kelvics can only be one animal, but Syrah didn't know that. All she knew was that this ferret-man could turn into a bear and eat her.

With her eyes still closed she said, "Your a kelvic, I bought a person!" She opened them again to look at the man, then closed them again at his unclothed body, "Put that sheet on will you?" She pleaded.

Kite Festival Surprise

Postby Dex on April 15th, 2012, 9:59 pm

John watched as she freaked. Freaked was the only word to describe it. She shrieked loudly in surprise, which John only half expected. It got rather shrill and hurt his sensitive ears. He covered them and waited for her to stop. She started muttering to herself, which he didn't hear because his ears were still recovering.

He shook the noise out and cleared his thoughts. She sat on the bed repeatedly opening and closing her eyes before saying "Put that sheet on will you?" He remembered that sheet in the box he was standing in. It took him a minute to think of what to put it on. Coming to the conclusion it belonged on the bed, he stepped out of the box and then put the sheet spread out on the bed like it was supposed to be, doing so happily.

"Ok, sheet is on the bed. Now what?"

Kite Festival Surprise

Sheet is on the bed? Confused, Syrah opened her eyes and saw the man was still naked and the blanket she told him to put on was next to her on her bed.

"Simple minded fool! I mean put it on! Wear the sheet, I don't want to see you naked!" She yelled. Her drunkenness was wearing off do to the shock and her carefree drunk personality had faded. Now she was angry and confused and scared. But mostly angry.

She was mad that she had wasted money on a vermin thing that just turned out to be a idiotic person. She was mad that she had drunk the wine in the first place. She was mad that she would have to burn the blanket, the only one she had, because a naked man was going to wear it, and she was mad that she went to that stupid festival at all.

"Simple minded fool! I mean put it on! Wear the sheet, I don't want to see you naked!"

"Oh. You should have said so. And if you don't want to see me naked, why didn't you close your eyes?" John asked in a completely straight face, still not sure what was wrong yet. Or if there was something wrong. It seemed like the girl ... he shouldn't call her the girl. Anyway, it seemed like she thought something was wrong. John thought all of this as he tied the sheet in something called a "toga style". He saw it in a picture at one point and thought it looked kinda silly, but he didn't know how else to wear a sheet.

"What's your name? And what's wrong? And are you sure I should wear this? It really belongs on your bed. That's why they call it bed sheets." He wore a quizzical face as he asked this, not understanding much of anything at the moment.

Kite Festival Surprise

Postby Syrah Steele on April 15th, 2012, 10:54 pm

Syrah saw his hand reach down and pick the blanket back off the bed she looked back at him and saw that he had tied the blanket on him like a toga. She giggled at the outfit.

"I did close my eyes you idiot." She said, still giggling. "I don't like - I don't feel comfortable seeing someone naked, I don't know about your race, but humans, not so much."

She sighed at the mans incompetence. "My name is Syrah, Syrah Steele. But I prefer my first name only. I guess you have a name of your own huh? I was going to name your Lewis, but seeing as you are human, or like one..."

His next question was very stupid, are you sure I should wear this? it belongs on the bed, thats why its called a bed sheet. As if she was the stupid one! "Of course you should wear it! You don't have any clothes here so what else?! Did you ever learn anything!?"

What was she going to do with him now? He probably wanted to leave, or worse stay. She was completely lost in her post shocked state.

John watched as she replied carefully to each question, though slightly distracted by the giggles that escaped every so often.

"I did close my eyes you idiot. I don't like - I don't feel comfortable seeing someone naked, I don't know about your race, but humans, not so much. My name is Syrah, Syrah Steele. But I prefer my first name only. I guess you have a name of your own huh? I was going to name your Lewis, but seeing as you are human, or like one...Of course you should wear it! You don't have any clothes here so what else?! Did you ever learn anything!?"

John figured he had better answer the questions one at a time and in a row like she did, or they were likely to get very confused.

"I sort of have a name. I just use it whenever someone asks for one, but you can call me Lewis, I'll listen to it. And as far as the clothes, their not really that important. If you really want I can go get my clothes and come back. As for learning things ... " Lewis stopped for a minute and thought.

"I'm learning to juggle, does that count? And I know the edible plants around here, just in case I get hungry. Oh, I also memorized a street map of Riverfalls."

Lewis said this last bit with pride. Though he wasn't sure if they really were important to know or not. He didn't really need to know anything, except what to eat, what not to eat, and what to do to make people happy. And once he found someone, he would stick around and have things to do, so that they were happy.

"But if you want to call me Lewis, go ahead. And then I can stick around, and help you out, like by keeping your sheets on your bed. You really do seem to have trouble with that concept."
