Aran Cloudspinner of the Amethyst Clan
Physical Appearance:
A tall woman with a slender athletic figure and a light tan complexion, Aran is always garbed in a pair of plain breeches and embroidered tunics. Oh, there are dresses in her tent but they’re dragged out only on festive occasions. A series of intricate braids encircle her head though on some days it hangs loose and unfettered. A picture of a typical unmarried Drykas woman. Her windmark rests on her left hand, a series of knots set in four points, each symbolizing the earth, hearth, home and heart where her life lays intertwined with the Sea of Grass and her people. A friendly soul with a light and graceful stride, there exists a ready smile on her face.
Personality:
A practical woman with a wry sense of humor, Aran is proud of her Drykas heritage, though it never equaled her love for horses instilled from early childhood. The Drykas woman is a hard worker, patient when working with horses and various other interests but fidgets out of habit when bored. A friendly woman, she is honest about her likes and dislikes among her fellow Drykas and even strangers to a certain extent. Every creature, whether human or otherwise, has its own strengths and weaknesses and the brunette knows where she is lacking.
Horses are greatly loved by her. Growing in a pavilion that bred native Sea of Grass breeds, she is entranced by them. One day, she hopes to become a breeder or even trainer of some renown. One rule, she always adheres to when near a horse, is to never approach it in anger. As a result, she rarely loses her temper. Oh, you might hear some biting words but her anger flows quicker than a raging river disappearing in a flash.
Having been a target of malicious gossip, she abhors vague conjecture backing rumors. While she renders a cursory interest in gossip to keep up with clan news by listening quietly, she doesn’t join in the mud-slinging.
History:
Little Rider. Always she was called that by her father, Zunil, the brother of the Akhal of the Cloudspinner Pavillion, and his first wife Tarana, a skilled mounted archer and horsewoman. A half brother, Sunak had been born a few days earlier to Zunil’s second wife, Sunaka.
Living together, the father, his two children and wives got along rather well. If Tarana had no patience for housework, then Sunaka took over, and if little Sunak and Aran needed bow lessons, Tarana would instruct them with much enthusiasm. Assumptions were sundered when it dawned that Sunak, while having much potential as an archer, had none beyond learning the rudimentary care of horses and that his little sister was better among the horses than with a bow.
This happy state of affairs continued till Aran was sixteen. There were negotiations between the Cloudspinner pavilion and the Waterhoofs for the young Drykas girl’s hand in marriage. Both pavilions had good relations, in fact Sunak and her potential groom, Ywanik were good friends. By ill luck, the happy times did not last long. On a hunting trip together, both boys perished. A blow to the pavilions and the girl expected to be exchanged lost her brother and her potential husband. Tongues started to wag about ill-omens which spread through many pavilions in Endrykas. In memory of her brother she has taken up the shortbow, hoping to be close to him through an activity he liked.
Nine years later, she still resides in Endrykas, unmarried, caring not much for any wagging tongues but stronger now.
