35th day of Summer, 512 AV
Inoadar scanned the tower through the trees behind one of the tents in the tidy little 'village' at the base of the stone path leading up the hill. He observed the routine at the tower several times over. It didn't look too bad. A single guard, sometimes two, breaking away from the rest to ask a few questions while bags are searched and weapons are declared and recorded.
He did not know if any of his weapons would raise eyebrows, but didn't anticipate an issue being made of them despite their covert nature. When it came right down to it, his Tamo daggers were only daggers. It was more the poisoning gear that would be the hitch.
He approached the tower, feigning a limp and employing his cane unnecessarily. A pair of guards broke away from the rest and approached him, one with the questions, the other with a pad for notations. The first guard began a quick search of his bags as Inoadar answered the questions.
"I am Inoadar, a traveling scholar in the field of anti-toxin development, purification and distribution. I seek entry to your city in hopes of establishing a clinic for the good of all within. Naturally, I hope to turn a profit in the process."
The guard looked to his partner, who finished his notes and nodded. "Naturally." the first guard muttered. He made no attempt to unfurl the bedroll, so he did not find the tamo dagger set, designed to look like a messenger's scroll case, with a leather strap solidly connected at both ends.
Upon request, Inoadar listed his hatchett, shovel, hammer and eating knife as his weapons, but they were, as he expected, shrugged off as tools, not weapons. He omitted the knuckleduster hidden in his cloak, the garrotte strung inside his pants leg, the blades in his boots, the bracer with the loops for his blowgun darts, and his cane, with the stiletto in the handle and the blowgun encompassing its length.
The grappling hook he explained as necessary to reach certain medicinal plants found in high elevation areas. His whip was, of course, a leftover from the time that he owned a horse. He began to volunteer to surrender it, but the guard waved away the suggestion.
He rattled off some babble about "toxin reversal reagents" and "protein bolstering resistance stimulants inherent in the flora of the southern hemisphere attributed to the genus verbosum extravagantius, which has had a protogenial resurgence in the magnafellusium of the petallic resins from which we garner...-" The guard was done looking over his poison samples, not knowing if they truly were what he said, and having no idea what he said, and replaced them in his bag with a shrug.
Upon finding the blowgun darts, the guard held them up, about to demand an explanation. Inoadar cut him off with feigned concern. "Be careful with those! Those are prepared samples! What? do you think a man can develop anti-toxins without it requiring the toxins to work with? This was the only method I had of purchasing them. I am newly come from Sunberth."
At the mention of that notorious city, the guard gave a long "Ahh" of understanding, and carefully replaced the dart case.
"Very well sir, you can go. Good luck in your efforts and enjoy your stay." the guard said with a slight bow.
Inoadar returned the bow, assuring the guard that he fully intended to. he then continued on to the ferry to inject himself into the populace of Ravok.
I would prefer you called me "Nolan Parnell"...In fact, I insist.
