Estlor Stormborn
Physical Description Name: Estlor Stormborn Race: Sverfa Age: 15 Birthday: Spring 31, 497
Physical Discription As Estlor wanders around his boat Serenity, one can easily see his bare chest, scarred from many accidents caused by impulsive behavior. These scars are short and plenty and obviously not earned from combat leaving a very coarse look. This rough sandpapery like skin is golden brown, tanned from fifteen years of exposure to the sun.
Not a practitioner of perfect posture, Estlor appears to be (in a slouch) 5’8” tall, when in realty, if he were to actually stand straight up, he would be around 5’10. He has a long, slender figure, which is out of place for someone who is as physically active as he is. This is largely due to age, rather than any lack of physical activity. Although he is young, due to constant exposure to the elements, he looks order than most kids his age.
He has curly blonde hair, which is almost always full of grease and dirt. He occasionally cleans it up, but for the mots part, he allows it to get matted and unkempt. This somewhat accents his typical blue eyes that signify his Svefra heritage.
Character Concept Estlor is impulsive at heart. He will often pursue whatever catches his eye wholeheartedly, only to lose interest a short while later. When he wants to do something, he dives head first into the ordeal without hesitation, leaving the pros and cons of this action to be thought about and dealt with later.
Historically, he has tried to control this part of his nature. Until recently, he has been entirely unsuccessful.
Due to this nature, Estlor doesn’t really concern himself with morality. Ethical responsibility rarely is a factor in his decision to act. Although he doesn’t enjoy putting other people in harm’s way, and he feels bad if he does so, he simply forgets to factor that into the equation before he acts. This doesn’t mean that he is heartless, or cruel, he simply is oblivious to the moral issues of his actions. He has good intentions; his actions just sometimes make that hard to see.
In the past couple of years, Estlor has taken up two hobbies that are somewhat integral to his sanity. In an attempt to become more “tame” he took up carpentry and the pan flutes to keep himself busy and therefore out of trouble. He spends a large portion of his time repairing and improving the family boat. This is not out of a desire to have a better vessel, but rather a desire to cure his boredom.
He is fascinated with the science and techniques that go into making effective and eye-catching ships. As a kid, he always viewed ships as mystical entities that resemble one’s soul. He still finds ships to have a holy aspect to them, but they are not quite as untouchable to him as they once were. He views the creation and alteration of sea vessels as a direct method of interacting with your spirit. This creation is not only his passion, but his way of expressing his religion. This is very therapeutic for Estlor and calms him down enough to allow him to focus. It is not uncommon to see him working on his ship for hours at a time, something that is normally uncharacteristic.
Character History From the day he was born, Estlor was fascinated with the water. Although his upbringing was similar to most svefra, he was always more interested in the motion and interaction of the water than the morals and organization of his culture. By the time he was two, he was already a proficient swimmer and he spent most of his time in the ocean. He would always feel out of place on the land, and it eventually became apparent to the rest of his pod that he could not be landlocked. Whenever he was given the opportunity he would immerse himself in the ocean. This is where he felt most at home. Whenever he was not in the water, he would be jittery and awkward.
As he aged into his child years he got more and more impulsive. He would frequently do stupid actions to try and entertain himself. These actions would often get him into trouble, and occasionally would have to be bailed out of whatever situation he got himself in by his older brother Anaedos. He never meant any harm; he just always had a tendency to do stupid things. As he grew into adolescence he started to feel guilty of the strain he was constantly putting onto the rest of his pod, so he made an effort to find a time skink that would be less harmful to both himself and those around him. He picked up the pan flute and started to play peaceful music. His brothers enjoyed it, and he felt a strange amount of satisfaction when he earned their approval. It was pleasant for him.
Recently, he has taken the burden of ship repair upon himself. About a year ago, he acquired a set of carpenter’s tools from an empty ship in the Suvan Sea. He instantly put these to use and repaired their formerly broken down ship until it was in acceptable condition. He even modified an old ballista they found on an abandoned navy vessel to fit on the front of his casino. Ever since he found these tools, he has been spending the majority of his time improving or thinking about his ship. He even named it, Serenity, to make it even more personal than it previously was. He thinks of this ship as a materialization of his spirit and truly believes that improving this vessel improves his soul as well.
His life was fairly carefree until very recently. When the Djed storm hit in the spring of 512, his pod was hit very hard. They were sailing through the Suvan Sea at the time and everything seemed fine until Lavo suddenly dove deep into the sea. Estlor felt Lakivu’s cry, but didn’t quite grasp the severity of the situation. Purely through luck, Estlor decided to be responsible for once and managed to find a fairly secluded cove before the storm hit. He still remembers the impact he felt when the storm passed through their location. The water suddenly started to violently sway as their boat was thrashed by the rebounding waves. By the time the storm had subsided, their boat had been mostly destroyed. It took a lot of work and time to make serenity to become seaworthy. Almost all contact had been lost with the rest of his pod; the only people that were with him were Anadeos and Kelak.
After a little while they received the summoning from the Akkiki bird, but their ship still wasn’t ready to sail. Determined to find their Lia and the rest of his pod, he patched together Serenity and set sail for the meeting.
