Kelak Stormborn Basic Information Race: Svefra Birthday & Age : Winter 492 AV. 19 Gender: Male Languages Language 1: Fluent: Common Language 2: Basic: Fratava Language 3: Poor Physical Description Kelak is tall, for a human, standing at 6'2”. His skin has been lightly tanned from his years at sea, however, unlike many Svefra, he tends to wear at least a light cotton shirt even on hot days, so therefore his skin isn't as uniformly dark and weather beaten as that of many Svefra his age. His eyes are a distinct sky blue, bright and piercing. This makes them somewhat unusual amongst the Svefra, whose eyes tend to be a far more oceanic color. He is in acceptable shape, as is mandated by life at this sea, but nowhere near as fit as many Svefra males who spend extra time being exceedingly physically active. As such, he only weighs a mere 140 pounds. His hair is something akin to black birds nest strewn unceremoniously atop his head: it sticks out in every conceivable direction with no seemingly no rhyme or reason, and the sea wind does little to help it attain any orderliness. He has single mole on the right side of his face, with fairly high set cheekbones. However, overall his face is unremarkable, if mildly attractive, other than the fact that he actually puts a reasonable amount of effort into keeping somewhat clean shaven (for a Svefra) not out any desire for formality, but rather because he finds facial hair to be extremely agitating. Character Concept Kelak is somewhat unusual for Svefra, even if his podmates haven't really picked up on it. That is, he doesn't quite feel the same spiritual attachment to the sea that so many others of his pod, indeed, his race do. He does bear Lativu's gnosis, but has often questioned it, wondering why he has been selected amongst Lativu's chosen, when he knows some are not. However, he of course, never before voiced this concerns to the pod, as he knows he would be looked down on it. Indeed, the other pods he meets are already skeptical enough of his Pelican Tavan. And while of course Kelak appreciates the sea, for he realizes how integral it is to their life, as it is the Svefra's home, the Svefra's sustenance, and the source of many Svefras closest friends, he still can't help but feel as if there is more to the world than just the sea- a sentiment not commonly shared amongst his people. Nevertheless, he holds a substantial amount of loyalty to his pod, and feels a sense of duty to both his Lia and his brother's and sisters- especially those with whom he shares his boat. And this loyalty causes Kelak to make an effort to resemble most other Svefra. However, though he does not bear an exceptional inherent connection to sea like so many Svefra, Kelak has found remarkable fascination with the vault of heaven in the form of the night sky. From a young age, he has gaze up at the stars with utter fascination. To him, the stars seem so infinite, the black sky so vast, and so expansive, and filled with so many points of tantalizing, majestic light- as if hinting at places beyond his world, beyond the sea which he has lived his life on. And this only fills him with further longing to see what lies ashore. Hence he is eager for his ship and crewmates to undertake escort missions, or to sail travelers across the Sea, so he might hear their stories, and learn more about the world beyond the Suvan. He is constantly taking notes when they stop at port on what he sees. On his group's small boat, he has chosen to erect his quarters out doors, where he might appreciate the vastness, and endlessness, and omnipresence of it a little better: the night sky covers every part of this world and any world beyond- and he longs to see it all. While Kelak enjoys activity with his podmates, such as swimming, or playing, or pirating, or partying, he has always had the greatest draw to less common activities. His keen mind covets books, and the knowledge they can provide, and the stories they can tell about the great beyond. He is always seeking to learn more. He has acquired a set of fine pencils, and often spends his time drawing of the places he imagines from these tales, and making maps of what he envisions the world is like. He has a distinct talent for cartography- one that his pod noticed, and therefore they constantly have him mapping the Suvan, for them, with details about fishing locations, weather, and the like. This may make him seem somewhat detached from his fellow Svefra, nothing could be further from the truth- he cares deeply for his people, particularly his podmates, but is simply confounded by how so many of them have no interest beyond the sea. And while he is well aware of the xenophobia that other races have regarding the Svefra, he is able to maintain an objective enough view to realize his people have earned it to a degree, based on the differences he has noted between the others that his pod have occasionally encountered. While he has not fully come to terms with the concept of ownership, he understands it, and understands how the outside world is not a singular family like the Svefra, and has gradually come to believe that perhaps it is not the strong's duty to prey on the weak but rather to protect them. Thus, Kelak is a conflicted individual, caught between his love for his pod and family, and yet drawn to the world, peoples and cultures beyond the Suvan. Character History Kelak's upbringing has resembled that of most Svefra. His eyes set him apart at birth, but it wasn't long before he was 'one of the family' – something that is rarely challenging for a member of a group as tightly knit as the Svefra. His pod was small, led by Lia Ariana. The Lia's control over her pod was relatively relaxed, despite it's small size, and individual boats were essentially allowed to do as they pleased as long as they didn't embarrass the pod or disobey the Lia. Kelak grew up to become especially close to three other Svefra on his boat, mostly because they were around his age- Bayern, Anadeos, and Estlor. The four of them grew up together on the Palivar of the Lia, but ultimately, as they grew older desired greater freedom. Thus, when an opportunity to acquire their own Casinor arose, they seized on it. Since then, they have traveled the sea together, doing whatever seems interesting and enjoying life. One important event in his life was the meeting of Abenthy, a human scholar who traveled with the pod for nearly a month. Abenthy found the young Kelak gazing up at the stars one night early on his time with the pod, and they talked for hours. Kelak quickly took a liking to the stranger, and it was here that his fascination with the world and people beyond the Suvan began in earnest. When Abenthy finally left, to Kelak it was almost like losing a father, but the kindly man left him a collection of books for Kelak's keen young mind to absorb, and this collection is Kelak's most prized possession. However, Kelak's relatively peaceful lifestyle was horribly interrupted by the events that have transpired in the Djed storm. Realizing something was off with the disappearance of his shipmates Tavan, at Kelak's they sought shelter in the form of a nearby cove to figure out what was going on. Thus, when the storm hit, through luck and luck alone they were able to survive, as the cove protected them from the worst of the storm's wrath. However, their ship, the serenity, was terribly damaged during the storm. Therefore, even though they received the summons via Akkiki bird at roughly the same time as other Svefra, the damaged state of their ship has made their progress toward the meeting place slow. Meanwhile, they have no idea about the state of the rest of their pod, but hope to find the other Stormborn upon their arrival at Caiyha's Fist.
