There Will Be No Rip-Offs [Job thread/solo]

31st of Spring, 512 AV

Fog had set over the city of Sunberth, a rather unpleasant feeling for Casper, who felt uncomfortable not being able to see more than a few feet in front of him, not to mention the cold. Still, he had to wake up that morning and make his way to the Fence, ready to do whatever was asked from him by his boss, Zeke. He wondered what lay in store for him today. Most of the time, Casper just lazed around the shop, gave a dirty look to whoever was trying to haggle too far down for an item, and waited patiently for something to turn up. Today, however, he found himself fidgeting in the chair he usually relaxed comfortably in, finding the chilly air unbearable. He rubbed his hands together, a sour look on his face as he imagined going back to the tavern and sitting by the fire for the rest of the day.

Zeke, who had just finished up with a customer, came over to stand by Casper.
“Sensitive to the cold, are ye?” He said, noticing his discomfort.
“A bit.”
“Well, I got a lil' somethin' to warm ye up, lad. I got a craftsman, Sharl, who's recently sold me a load o' crap fer way more than it's worth, an I don't like bein' made a fool of.”
“Undersstandable.”
“Good ta hear, I thought I was bein' unreasonable for a sec,” He let out a hearty chuckle at his own joke. “Well, here's the address. Tell 'im I'd like me money back, 'bout fifty gold. Oh, an' I can trust ye to inform him how disappointed I am that we couldn't do good business together.”

Handing a sheet of paper with directions scribbled down onto them, Zeke's tone suddenly became darker towards the end of his request. So, he wanted Casper to rough the man up a little more than what was necessary to get the money? Not a problem. He stood up from his seat, and smiled confidently to Zeke.
“Conssider it done,” He strode out of the small room, Zeke interrupting him just as he was about to close the door.

“Oh, an' Cas? Try not ta kill 'im.” Casper nodded in reply, and left.

There Will Be No Rip-Offs [Job thread/solo]

Postby Casper on May 21st, 2012, 7:58 pm

The shoddy building was not completely outside the city, but the buildings were more scattered now and the streets wider as Casper arrived at his destination. He was glad to see that the road was not often frequented, so he wouldn't have any trouble with some random do-gooder or friend of the target as he got the job done. A mutt was leashed to a tree, barking loudly at him. Ignoring it, he walked to the only flat that looked even remotely inhabited, and gave it a friendly knock like he was just coming over for tea. He wasn't one for being sneaky, after all.

He noticed a moving shadow under the doorway. Someone was inside, that was for sure. He waited a few moments, knocked again. No answer. Whoever had sneaked a peek at him through the cracks probably had an idea as to why he was here. He tried the door handle, which was locked, obviously, but whatever was blocking it felt weak. He hesitated, wondering whether he should look for an alternate entry into the humble abode or just barge in, guns blazing, so to speak. He looked around, sighed lightly, and muttered to himself,
“I guess I'll huff and I'll puff,” and he took a step back, dug one foot securely into the ground and swung the other with full force, right where he estimated the lock to be. The thing gave in and broke, a feeling of satisfaction going through him as the door swung open and slammed against the wall. The inside was dark, and cautiously, Casper drew his Tulwar and entered.

Light poured in from the doorway, but further into the home, the light from the windows was only dimly shining through the curtains, forcing Casper to adjust his eyesight to the different light. He called out, tentatively, “I know you're in here. Juss' looking have a talk, iss all.” He strained his eyes, scanning the room for any sign of movement. He made his way deeper into the quaint home, wondering if he could allow himself a moment to open to open the curtains. No, too risky.

Then whoever it was that was hiding made a move. Casper barely heard the footsteps coming up from behind him, but it was enough. He swiveled around and instinctively held his Tulwar up horizontally to protect himself in the nick of time from an upward blow, stepping backwards to face whoever was attacking him. He would have liked to pull out his shield, but there was no time as the panic-stricken man in front of him lurched forward with his sword. Thinking fast, he avoided the movement by stepping to the right, grabbed the sword-wielding arm, and thrust the pommel of his own Sabre into the man's face. His legs wobbled from the blow, but not enough. Casper struck him with the pommel again, and a third time before he let go of his arm and let him fall to the ground. He quickly pinned him down by placing the end of the curved blade below his chin and placing his foot down on his hand.
“Let go of the ssword,” he hissed, pressing down until the stranger yelped in pain and released his grip.
“And learn to usse the damn thing before you attack ssomeone with it.” Casper was no swordsman, still rather unskilled with his own blade, but he knew a desperate fool when he saw one.

There Will Be No Rip-Offs [Job thread/solo]

The man that lay before him with a pathetic expression on his face was rather young, definitely a ladies man compared to rest of the ugly mugs walking around Sunberth. Still, that didn't stop Casper from kneeling down, his boot and sword still firmly in place, and placing his knee heavily on the boy's chest. He brought his sabre down so that it rest horizontally across his neck rather than threatening him at the tip.

“Sso, if I'm not wrong on the factss, you sold a load o' crap to the Fence.”
“T-that wasn't me, I swear--”
“You sure about that? Becausse if you aren't the guy, I'll jusst kill you and be on my way,” To demonstrate he was capable, he pressed the blade into his neck, just enough to break the skin and draw a small amount of blood. The boy stopped protesting with a small whimper.
“Sharl, right? I undersstand that you're daft ass hell, so I'll make it simple. I want the money you owe Zeke. All fifty gold mizass, not less, more wouldn't hurt.”

Sharl gulped, his adam's apple passing uncomfortably under the sabre's threatening presence. “Under the mattress, in the next room.”
Casper followed his gaze towards the open doorway and eyed the bed that rested in the corner. He wondered silently how he would ensure the kid didn't do anything stupid, and smiled slightly when he decided what to do. With his free hand, he reached into his belt and pulled out his dagger, moved his boot slightly so it would completely cover the already wounded hand, and with a swift movement, shoved his dagger straight through it. Sharl howled in pain, squirming under Casper, who didn't let go until he felt the dagger plant itself into the floorboards under him. With a satisfied grin, he got up, sheathed his Tulwar and took the sword before he walked into the next room.

He threw the shoddy mattress and sword to one side, finding a great amount of junk, but namely a pouch full of something heavy. Opening it, he was happy to find what he was looking for without any trouble. He walked back into the living room, where the boy was still moaning in pain, trying to release his hand, his attempts failing miserably when the pain became too strong. Meanwhile, Casper sifted through the pouch, discerning that it probably contained the fifty gold and then some.

There Will Be No Rip-Offs [Job thread/solo]

His boot placed firmly on Sharl's forearm, Casper smirked.
“Well, thiss was great fun, but I'm expected elssewhere. You were a great hosst.”
He bent down, and just as he put his hand over the dagger to pull it out, stopped short. He could still hear the dog outside, barking madly over the sound of the thief's whimpers. He remembered that it was leashed.
“The dog. Is it yourss?”
“Wh-what are you talk--”
“Ansswer the question,” he said, and twisted the dagger, opening the wound painfully. Sharl cried out in pain, tried weakly to pry Casper's fingers from the handle, and finally shouted, “Yes! Yes, now let go!!”

Casper complied, and with a swift tug, pulled the dagger out from his hand, which only started bleeding more profusely than before. He wiped the blood off on the boy's shirt before finally getting up and turning to leave. In the doorway, Sharl, who was now sitting with his hand cupped in the other, called out, “What do you care about the dog?”

He looked down at the boy, and after a moment, decided not to give him an answer and left the building. The dog was still where he had last seen him, barking without pause for breath. Casper remembered his instructions from Zeke, remembered that he wanted the kid to know how disappointed he was that they couldn't do good business together. Unsheathing his blade, he stopped a few inches from the dog's reach, and brought the Tulwar down through the animal's thick neck. It collapsed to the ground, the barking degenerating into uneven yelps and finally into a gurgling last breath before it died. He sheathed the bloody blade as he walked away in a hum, making a mental note to clean the blood off later.
