Character Concept

Personality
Generally, he has upbeat and optimistic personality that is only hindered by his own anxiety and insecurity. He is excitable and is still in the throes of the impulsiveness of youth; he has difficulty maintaining self control when confronted with the things he love (such as sweets or magic, and assuming that some other emotion isn't overriding his impulses). The man is deeply respectful to others and does not flaunt his abilities, thinking it rude. He is very much a knowledge seeker. Theodore's appetite to learn and to experiment is ravenous and rarely is he satisfied without an answer.

Usually, he tries not to speak about his immediate family, instead referring to his grandmother or grandfather should anything of that nature come up.

In terms of his romance, he is aware that he will eventually have to marry and do his part to repopulate, a duty to it even. Yet, his passions lie with other men.

(currently can't seem to write any better then this, a 'block I suppose, I will rewrite later but these features probably won't change much.)

Character History
Theodore's father was a gifted toy maker hailing from Syliras who had gained a certain amount of renown. His ability to make cleverly hidden mechanisms was rivaled only by a few in his town. With a bit of clever business handling and a type of bold, adventuring spirit he made his way out into the world to learn from other cultures and perhaps expand his sphere of influence to outpace his competitors. He began by boat; following the lines of production and resources he traveled the world. Amazing man and creature alike with his creations. At last he made it to the opposite side of the continent and made the imposing trek from boat to peak of Lhavit, a veritable utopia of knowledge and craft. He was smitten by the place a came to desire to live there more then even owning his business. He sent word back to his fiercest competitor that he would sell his business for no more then half its worth. With money in hand he was able to settle down in city of the sun, the moon and the stars and peddle his marvelous mechanical creations.

One day not long after his father, Cyrus Drake, had set up his shop on the Plaza a young maiden came into the shop to browse his wares and he fell in love. Thul Dusk eventually gave into the man's advances and they were wed in the Lhavitian fashion. Love turned to passion and passion turned into a young child whom the maiden gave birth to. Cyrus named his son after his grandfather and together they raised the child until Theodore was about five years old. A wave of sickness swept over the city and Cyrus' wife, as frail as she was, was one of the first few to be overcome by the disease. Grief changed the once gentle and kind man that was Cyrus Drake. Something became twisted inside that man and while his outward demeanor was the same as ever, the man became cruel and unyielding when no one was looking, save his son Theodore.

Theodore did not have the gift of mechanical insight that his father had. Yet from his father's constant pushing and severity towards anything but perfection the child learned quickly how to fend off his father's punishments. At the age 12 he was admitted into the Dusk house to learn from the family of his mother's magic. It was there that he discovered his talent, not the toy and mechanism crafting of his father, but the study of Djed. Indeed, his father's punishments for even the slightest infraction and his anger at any childish questions had never quashed his childish wonder, imagination and curiosity. If anything it never allowed him to mature past that while other parts of his mind grew naturally or were twisted from the cruelty of his father.

As an apprentice of both his father and of the mages in the Dusk house the child grew into a young man who eventually grew the wandering spirit his father had. He knew nothing but the city of Lhavit, as beautiful and prosperous as it was, he wished to know more of the world. When he told his father of his desire to leave, the man flew into a rage that made Theodore have to go to the family of his mother. When Cyrus calmed down something had changed in him once more. He came meekly to Theodore with an offering of enough money to take him wherever he wanted to go by boat and enough money and supplies to support him for a time. When it was time to leave, Cyrus showed a rare amount of affection towards him, and then gave a small skyglass pendent that he had given to Theodore's mother to his son.

When Theodore's long voyage came to stop in the port of Zeltiva he learned of the location of the university. Having always wanted to expand his abilities the the magical arts and the further his knowledge in any way that he can the young man became excited and entered into the city to meet whatever fate had in store for him.
