Seluj

Postby Seluj on June 13th, 2012, 4:17 pm

Name:
Seluj
Physical Information:
Race: Human
Age: 20 (Winter,Day 4, 491)
Gender: Male
Physical Description:
He seems more human than not for a 'boy' that is technically a half breed. His skin is naturally a few shades darker than a normal flesh tone, being by real life standards a light skinned Black male, but his time outside keeps him a darker more chocolate tone. He is a very normal build, standing at about six foot tall, six foot even with shoes. His hair is generally very short and black in color, and tends to keep it as short as possible for fear that he might be actually experiencing premature balding. If it were to grow out, it would be tightly curled 'afro' sort of styling. His eyes are very dark brown, nearly black, and almost indistinguishably so unless someone is close enough to tell the difference.

He often wears his father’s old warn helmet as a memento, though so out of serviced it wouldn’t serve much for protection. His clothing isn’t flashy at all, but instead wears earthy colors: a Dark brown jacket, simple loose fitted pants and belt that are neutral in color. This is modest and allows him to blend in just about anywhere. Anything comfortable, loose fitting and easy to move in. He is seen wearing many more traditional pieces of jeweling, such as his jade necklace form his heritage, though these aesthetic pieces have little to no value. His body is incredibly lean, only 6% body fat, making him look almost lanky when standing idol. This is all in spite of his 170lbs weight. He in fact looked rather young for his age, as he has smooth skin and simple features.

Character Concepts:
Personality - Seluj is characterized more or less by many conflicting ideals that depend greatly on his mood and thus create an uneasy amount of ambivalence in his thoughts and feelings. For example, his impulsive youth will bring him to curiously seek after vices such as women and greed, however his morals will tell him to be modest and respectful. While he wants the power to defend himself and protect what's his, he has a hard time actually doing harm to anyone else. While infinitely curious of the power of 'magic' he is always having to remind himself not to use it irresponsibly or out in public because of the social and personal risk involved. In short, he is simply maturing, and dealing with the man questions and problems one has to deal with when considering going from a 'boy' to a 'man' mindset. More of a healthy transition than a psychotic problem, though it can often get him in trouble with his high energy and outgoing attitude.

That being said, he has to do this all on his own. With both his mother and father passed and only few memories of either to guide his actions, he is very personally intelligent and responsible. He will do what he has to do to survive, and when left to his own thoughts and devices, is an excellent problem solver and sound thinker. He is capable of analytical and philosophic thought and is great at thinking about side of the box as demonstrated by his vaste imagination. It's only when strong emotions and other people's ambitions get involved that his naive and sometimes impressionable attributes can lead him down dark paths. As a result, Seluj is something of an artist staring at a blank canvas, slowly finding inspiration to define who he really is. This can be for good... or for bad, but only time can tell.

Ethics - Seluj has very simple morals. His sense or right and wrong are very sound, making consideration also for a shallow 'gray' area where only decision exists. He is dependable and true to his word, and attempt to be honest to the best of his ability. However, his impulsivity and youth can bring him to attempt to bend the rules, or make exceptions. It's not that he doesn't know what he is doing is probably not positive, rather, he decides against them for the sake of 'fun'. He doesn't mind causing trouble for as long as he doesn't think anyone will be too effected by it; especially if he knows he can get away with it.

Likes - Dance, Competition, Fine Women, Long remedial tasks, The Epiphany moment when learning something new.
Dislikes - Math, Overweight people/Gluttony, People who breathe out of their mouth, people that correct his grammar,

Character History
It all started with a single Syliran Knight. A keeper of justice and spreader of light, he was a proud member of the Knights, and abided to their creed. However upon a quest of particular interest, a suspected criminal, had curiously slipped into his heart. This was an Ethaefal, and it was a twist of fate that he would fall in love with someone who was to be imprissoned. In a fit of emotion, the Syliran Knight flee with the Ethaefal to Zeltiva where he thought they could remain anonoymous together. They lived two years together, having a single son. The Ethaefal, tragically, died in childbirth, leaving the Former Knight to care for his son...

The boy was named Seluj.

Romanticized by stories of great knights, the boy too aspired to be like his father, though the Syliran Knight aren't as easily escapable. Even though fourteen years had passed, his father was confronted still by the Syliran Knight, that had managed to track him under consideration that he be a fugitive of justice. He was taken from their home, though knowing his son was off fishing he said nothing. It was his way of sparing his sons life... Seluj however would return to an abandon home. A twelve year old boy, forced then to provide and care for himself...

Eight years later, he was quite an accomplished street performer, begging and borrowing where he could, and living off of the sea. His refuge was found in dancing, an art that allow him not only to express himself, but moreover, to perform his special brand of magic... his own twist on hypnotism.

But how does a boy orphaned left to his own devices at a young age even come to learn how to do such a thing? Lacking the maturity to possibly get a job, and lacking the skills, he would have to resort to petty begging and what was essentially hunter gathering and scavenging. One by one he would have sell his fathers things, until even his fathers house had to be sold to have money to support himself. He took solace in the many street performers whose busking was more like a small circus performance! He particularly enjoyed those who danced, and seemed to have particular talent for it as well. After watching and playing with them for long enough, they eventually considered him a 'normal'. A rarity in itself for people performing to those passers-bye.

It turned out that this wasn't completely a coincidence. In time, he would perform with them, picking up many freestyle dancing forms as though it were itself a culture, and greatly enjoyed it. Noticing his talent and love for dance and natural outgoing affinity, the lead of this traveling group would over time learn more about Seluj. Growing attached to Seluj and taking pity on his situation, he decided to teach him something more valuable. The secret to their performance success was in part talent, but entertainment alone didn't loose the coin from a mans pockets easily. He explained that a magic known as "hypnotism", one of the most taboo forms of magic, had helped them captivate and inspire others to enjoy their performance and thus be more likely to give tips! At first Seluj was confused at first

He would become his teacher, however, explaining over time that hypnosis and dance could be used simultaneously. Almost like muscle memory, he was made to perform specific dance moves repeatedly, often for hours, to practice. While at the time tedious, it brought Seluj to understand the 'emotion of movement'. Dance was body language and by using hypnosis, one could literally portray the meaning of ones movement through suggestion.

He wouldn't come to perfect his hypnosis, but was at least competent, before the street performers had moved on to a new land. But they had left him the memento of a love for dance, and the skill of hypnotism. By husking himself he was able to make a meager living... though practice makes perfect!
