20th of Fall 505 AV The delighted screams of her siblings and cousins rang through Gabrielle's ears as she watched them swim among their dolphin tavans. They attempted to race their tavans back and forth, but of course the dolphins were much quicker, and liked to cut them off their path and then twirling into the air playfully. The young Gabrielle leaned over the edge of her mother's casinor and looked longingly at the dolphins. Around them, the late afternoon sky was turning darker, the sea air was becoming was cooler. "Gab, jump on in!" one of her cousins yelled at her, beckoning her. The thirteen-year old Gabrielle stuck her tongue out stubbornly and huffed before retreating into the cabin of the casinor. Behind her, she could hear her cousins and siblings calling after her. The young girl ignored their yells completely. She jumped on the bed and buried her face in one of the pillows. It wasn't fair -- why had they all found their tavans, and she still had no dolphin to call her partner? She felt incomplete and felt much envy towards her pod members who had found their precious tavans. Some of them had forged a relationship at a much younger age. As she moped around, she could hear her mother calling her out in deck, and she knew she probably had something for her to do, hence she ignored the calls. They were currently in the Northern Suvan Sea, somewhere between the huge stretch of water between Syliras and Karjin. The Seawind pod currently travelled with around ten families; there were more, but it was not uncommon for some smaller branches to detach themselves for a few days or weeks in order to tend to their own businesses. They travelled in groups of casinors and palivars. The Lia was housed in one of the larger Palivars, and led the group of ships. They were headed towards the direction of Syliras, but the wind was not very available at the moment, hence the fact that they were able to put down the sails and stop in the middle of the ocean and play with the dolphins that swam with them. Gabrielle assumed they would get a night’s rest before resuming their travels. Soon enough, the door to the cabin opened, and Gabrielle raised her head to find her mother looking down at her strictly. Her gray hair was tucked behind her ears in a tight bun, and she looked like she was happy for some reason. She said, "We've come across the Moontide pod, Gabrielle. Be ready and prepare the fish for cooking, the Lia's to host a feast for tonight." *** It was not unusual for Svefra pods to host parties when encountering one another. Flat beds of wood were used to connect the Seawind ships, and Gabrielle hopped across a few casinors to arrive at their Lia's Palivar. In her hands she held a plate of cooked fish which were impaled on sticks. A delectable scent rose from the fish, and Gabrielle felt her stomach rumbling. She placed it down at the center table and grabbed one for herself. On the table were various other dishes, mostly seafood. People danced around her, and a few men played on their musical instruments as most of the Svefra sang along to the tune. By now the sun had set entirely and the lights that guided them came from the evening sky and an assortments of lanterns. Gabrielle wondered if they had ever met the Moontide pod before; there were many Svefra pods in the oceans that she could no longer keep track of who they met. She knew the Lia was well-knowledgeable, but the thirteen-year old girl was still childish and did not hold much in remembering such things. She knew each Seawind member, hence she knew that every strange face was a Moontide. Glancing around, she hopped up to a nearby crate and bit into the cooked fish, wondering if she would meet anyone new tonight. |
