Just a Suggestion

Postby Nai'shee on June 20th, 2012, 10:56 pm

ApprovalI have permission from Paragon to play with fire. :)

Time passed and Nai'shee couldn't figure what to do. Eventually, she took a room again, this time the one closest to her targets. Searching for a room, she easily found which one they're in. One step less. But she wasn't any satisfied that she wasted two more gold mizas, since she still couldn't think of a way to get to that dagger. She already enlisted many options in her head and concluded that disguise wouldn't work. They would have to see her face, which was troubling, since some people already knew her here and would recognize description. And there was no way for them not to figure that they were robbed and by who eventually. Taking that out, the only option left was distraction.

Enlisting possible distractions now she was aware that guard would be the only person to leave the room to check any noise or similar stuff. She needs to lure them all out, to make them escape. Escape! Escaping means that they need to be in danger, which means that she had only one option: setting a fire. She took a glance around the room. It was summer, of course there wouldn't be fire. But still, she had personal hearth in the room. She smiled and opened a window widely. Wind tickled her face as she climbed the window and broke few branches from the tree besides. Nobody was watching. Luckily, since she didn't even remember to check in her enthusiasm. Her room was obviously on the back side of the inn. When she had enough wood she closed the window.

First thing she did was to ensure her own safety. She thought setting a fire would be more effective if it was already kindled and she didn't want any more burns any sooner. So she decided to try and form a shield against fire around her palm. She wasn't skilled enough, but combining that and being careful would probably be enough for her to get trough this unharmed. She sat on her bad and rose her right palm, so she could watch it. She found it easier to for a shield, or do any form of magic, while imagining Djed move as she wanted it to. By her other hand, left one, she went above her skin, touching it from time to time. She concentrated on shaping Djed trough her fingers. The fact she had no idea if she succeed was mostly the problem. She repeated the process, going above every single inch of her palm skin many times until she decided to try it out. She lift the warm breath at her hand. She felt nothing. However, she repeated the process once more, knowing that warm breath wasn't the same thing as fire. She decided not to test her first practical attempt at Shielding more than necessary.

If she wants to set something on fire she'll need to be sure nobody would notice the smell in her room. She assumed that innkeeper wouldn't even remember that she rent the room, but she wasn't willing to risk anyways. She opened the window again, to let the smoke out. She had equipment to set fire besides hearth and she succeed pretty quickly. She was glad that she learned few tricks while living on streets all this years.

She left the little fire to kindle and she went back to the hall, to check if anybody was there, seemingly looking for bathroom. She did meet a mid-aged woman, but she just exited her room and went downstairs, which means she'll stay there for a while. There were no other noises, so she safely went back to her room. Fire was already too big and she hurried to take it. She reminded herself to touch it only by her right hand. She took just one of the benches, which didn't fully burn, but only on one side. As for the others, she pointed her left hand at them, creating and freeing a bit of Res and turning it to water. Fire downed, so she just proceed to shut it with her leg. Luckily, she didn't earn a burn again.

She sneaked into the hall again and lift the burning bench just beside her target's door. She positioned it for few seconds, before running back to her room. First thing she did was to get rid of traces. She threw few wet and burnt down benches and cleaned the hearth. It didn't take her too long, and immediately after she was peeking trough her keyhole, to see if fire caught the rich man's door. She intended to scream and let them know, so they would escape, but she remembered they would probably take their belongings if she gave them time. So, instead, she decided to be a hero and wait for them to be trapped and then use a bit of Reimancy and her Shielded hand, which still sucked her Djed as crazy, to open their door and save them from fire. After that innkeeper will probably get read of fire pretty quickly, but Nai'shee, dagger and all of their money would be long gone.

And that's pretty much how it was. After few minutes doors were already burning and she heard scream from the inside. Fire didn't catch them fully just yet, but their panic gave it enough time to block their way. As soon as that happened Nai'shee run out of her room.

"What's going on?!", she yelled while still exiting her own room.

"Fire!", screamed somebody from the inside. She recognized the young man's voice.

"Stay still!", she replied, still yelling, but quieter, so she wouldn't alert anybody else. It wasn't much of a problem, since gamblers downstairs made enough noice. "I'll try something!"

And she did. She concentrated Res on the door's catch, so she could make space to open it. She felt her Djed level was getting too low already, so she stopped pretty quickly and hurried to use her opening against fire. She opened the door wide and told them to run for help. Young man didn't even wait for her command, he was already running in panic. The guard helped the young lady to walk as well. Nai'shee just foolishly stood there, waiting for them to pass. Right after she entered the room, her eyes scanned it pretty easily. It was pretty much empty, as hers. She opened a wardrobe, to find some clothes, the dagger and bags with money. She took the dagger and two bags and run straight into her room, hearing footsteps behind her as soon as she closed the door. She put her prey into her bag, collected the book, and hurried to jump trough the window.

She was down soon enough, entering the inn again. Nobody noticed that she was entering, even nor she was upstairs, probably since most of them tried to exit themselves when they heard of fire and few sold spirits still played that card game. As if they bet their lives to it, for Laviku's sake. When the innkeeper and guests came back downstairs she acted like she was freaking out about the fire. The young man approached her.

"Thank you very much for that. You probably saved our lives. How did you do that?"

"Magic", she replied with a wink and big fake smile. She considered her words for a second, since magic wasn't too accepted discipline, especially among royals and some religious people. "No, seriously, it was magic. I use water Reimancy."

"Oh", he didn't seemed too happy to hear it, but he didn't judge the thing that just saved his life. And he was probably afraid. "Do you want something? Anything? Any prize? Money, weapon...?"

Damn, she could have just asked for dagger.

"Please, I don't want anything, don't offer me those. I didn't do it for money." She did seem insulted. She became a good actor. "I was glad to talk to you", she said with fake honor in her voice, "I'll be going now. I forgot I promised this book to a friend at University a while ago."

"Hope I'll see you around", he replied. She concluded that girl he dragged around was really cheap.

"You too!", she said, leaving. It might have been too obvious that she was the thief. Well, who cares? Most of audience was annoyed by stylish guests, anyways.

OOC-2GM more for the room.

Just a Suggestion

77th of Spring 512AV, at The Market place

Early tomorrow morning she set to meet Anselm. She had a class later and she didn't want to miss it, so she woke up pretty early. The old man's tent was on it's usual place, fully settled for today. She guessed he just set it, since it was pretty early, at least for her. She headed the known rute proudly, tapping a bag in which she held freshly acquired dagger. Last night, she had a chance to take a closer look and she concluded it was pretty old, but well cared of. It was beautifully crafted, probably especially for the family of it's formal owner. It was too beautiful for battle, tho. If there wasn't that part, Nai'shee would probably consider keeping it. But it wasn't a weapon for her, it was something ornamental, not practical. She smiled, remembering one conversation she attended to, back at The Winter Ball.

"Anselm?", she asked, entering the tent, wondering if the old man was sleepy at this hour. She didn't make any obvious facial expression, since she found it fun to try and play with the man a little. He seemed like utterly calm type and she wondered if her cared enough for this dagger to get excited about news she carried.

Just a Suggestion

Postby Anselm on June 21st, 2012, 12:26 am

Anselm lived in a small cottage on the outskirts of the city. It was a spartan home: one room, bed, table, chair, locked chest, fireplace. He didn't spend much time there. Certainly he didn't use it for eating and sleeping since he did neither. From Anselm's point of view, one place was pretty much as good as another as long as he had shelter from the elements and some semblance of privacy. So it was not unusual for him to spend the entire night sitting in his tent thinking. Or more likely meditating. Thus it was that when Nai'shee arrived at this tent early on the morning of the 77th, she found him sitting there, as usual, waiting.

He showed no sign of movement when she spoke his name. He simply stared at her with his dead gray eyes. Not that she could likely tell whether his eyes were open or closed, as he had learned to wear the cowl in a way that effectively obscured his face. It had been two days since she had agreed to obtain the dagger for him. He had not been altogether sure that she would actually attempt it. Or that, having obtained it, that she would bring it to him. But here she was, and he could think of no reason for her to have returned except to bring him the dagger.

“My dear,” he said in a low gravelly voice. “I am so happy to see you again. Evidently you have obtained the item I asked for, hopefully without undo difficulty. And I presume you were able to obtain adequate compensation for your effort.”

Just a Suggestion

Nai'shee childishly grinned at how obvious she was for a second. She entered the tent and sat down, this time without waiting to be invited to. She opened her bag, searching for the dagger, which wasn't hard to find, since it was fairly biggest item she held in there.

"Yes, I have obtained item in question. The story did get a little more complicated, but I managed to pull this to the end." She assumed he wouldn't care to listen to explanations, so she's gone straight to giving him the dagger and finishing this job. She put the weapon on the table between them. "Indeed, I do have even more than expected", she replied shortly. She came to feel uncomfortable as the old man observed the item, unsure if she should talk or not.

Just a Suggestion

His right hand moved to the dagger, picked it up and put it in one of several pockets sewn to the inside of his cloak. Then he folded his hands together again on the table in front of him and looked at Nai'shee for a few moments. She had a slight tic going with her left eye. He had noticed it before and decided it was one of the ways her body expressed anxiety. She was young and brash and probably too self-confident for her own good. Nonetheless, she appeared to possess some unusual skills that could prove useful to him in the future.

“I occasionally find myself in need of someone who can, ah, look into certain matters and gather certain information without causing, ah, alarm on the part of certain parties. Nothing illegal, mind you. At least not very. It may be that your unique skill set could be of use in such a situation, and I would of course ensure that you were adequately compensated for your efforts. That is, if you are interested in such arrangements in the future. It is just a suggestion.”

He waved his hand in the air as though to dismiss her from his presence. “In any case, I believe that concludes our business.”

"You mean like a spy?", she asked with a frown, lowering her voice, just in case, reminding herself that tent didn't block sounds too much. She was ignoring the fact that he obviously expected her to go away. She knew she won't get much details anyways, but she was interested in this. It wasn't maybe the best thing to do, but it was less illegal than thievery. She was thinking about changing her profession slightly and this seemed as a perfect opportunity, since she already had most of skills needed. She thought about signing few more classes at the University next season. She was really good in wasting money since she became a student. And changing subjects, too. At least she hoped she would find her own path that way, until she gets the money needed for a proper ship and crew.

She shook her head, coming back from her thoughts. She probably seemed airy for few seconds. "Try to contact me if you need anything. I live at University and usually spend free time on Docks or training." With that, she left.

OOCSend me your requests so I can submit it for grading. I need to submit for seasonal wage for Spring too, so I'll wrap it up in same post.
