Physical Description Galys stands at 5’11” with lightly tanned skin, blonde hair, and the characteristic Svefra blue eyes. He’s fit from years of being in command of his own individual ship, and carries himself with a cocky, overbearing swagger which has the almost mystical quality of being quite irritating, particularly to land-dwellers. ‘Lithe’ and ‘Sinewy’ are the best adjectives to describe his body type. His Laviku tattoo is the outline of a dolphin made up of wavelike lines.
Character Concept
Galys is first and foremost a sailor. He’s willing to act as a transport for small parties of people using his Casinor, Laviku’s Wind – a ship inherited from and named by his mentor and effective father, who was far more religious than himself. Galys strives to be friendly, polite, and well-spoken when he does speak, although he’s by nature mischievous and not above a cheap joke or trick. Since boyhood, he’s been fascinated with swordplay, and relishes any opportunity to practice this skill. After his mentor and Tavan died (in separate incidences), Galys became more introverted, and he finds it difficult to make real connections, often trying to switch serious, personal conversations to lighthearted topics in a semi-conscious attempt to avoid creating deep relationships in order to avoid loss and emotional pain. Galys is searching for a purpose in life.
Character History Galys was born into a newly founded, tiny pod which called themselves the “Whitecap” and was made up of no more than ten other Svefra. His mother, Vedrianni Whitecap, and his father, Ourl Whitecap, had only started the Whitecap pod months before his birth, Galys being the first Whitecap born in the pod. He grew up alongside the pod’s dolphins, always having a deep connection with them, as is typical. Of all the human members of the pod, he was closest to a man named Adrian, whom was his father figure, and an experienced swordfighter and sailor. Adrian was in his forty-third year when Galys was born, and had spent much of his life protecting trade ships and hunting pirates; Galys grew up on these tales, wanting to follow in Adrian’s footsepts more and more with every word said.
Shortly after turning eight, he moved from the pod’s flagship Palivar, The Searcher, to one of the pod’s three Casinors, Laviku’s Wind, and lived with Adrian. The aging man taught Galys how to tie a knot, how to steer and navigate, and generally how to not destroy a ship in the process of getting from point A to point B. Other children were born, and the pod’s size had risen to sixteen people by the time that Galys was twelve, when disaster struck. An unexpected freak storm hit the pod in the middle of the Suvan Sea, scattering the pod. The Searcher was never found or seen since then, nor were the Whitecap pod’s Pardisa or Lia. At some point during the storm, Galys’ Tavan – one of the pod’s dolphin seabrothers - was killed when struck with a piece of wood torn from The Searcher The other surviving ship from the storm eventually found Laviku’s Wind, but finally wandered off to join another pod.
Adrian’s stubbornness kept him from searching for a new pod, so he ended up living with Galys, teaching the boy everything that he knew about seamanship, but refusing to teach him swordsmanship, as he considered Galys to be too young. By the time that Galys had reached the age of fourteen, though, his constant begging and questioning “Why not?” overwhelmed Adrain, and he began to teach Galys the ways of the blade. Galys was not a quick learner, but he eventually picked up enough of swordsmanship to hold off a competent attack (Though whenever Adrian felt that the boy was getting too cocky, Galys would go to bed with a bruised body and ego from the day’s training)
It was a good life, but nothing lasts. When Galys was twenty-three and Adrian Sixty-Seven, the older man began to suffer from dementia, which increased worryingly over several years. Galys did everything he could in an attempt to save Adrian’s mind, but to no avail. Eventually, Adrian threw himself from the ship, making no attempt to swim and embracing the depths of the sea. Galys found himself alone, lacking direction or motivation, aimless across the Suvan Sea.
Since then, he's sailed from port town to port town in the northern and central Suvan, making a living as a ferryman and courier. In some of the ports of the Suvan, he's made something of a name for himself - though not much more than any other independent courier. Training (Skills, Arcana, Gnosis, Lore)

Or, rather, a ship which looks similar to Laviku's Wind. Laviku's Wind is covered in chipped blue and white paint, which once made up a flowing pattern on the ship's hull.
