42th day of Summer, 512 AV

The summer brought with it a heat that was undeniable. The stickiness of sweat reached nearly every one of the tens of thousands of people that called Syliras home. Despite the gooey similarities the citizens all had in common, there was something that separated them on this day. On the thirty ninth day of Summer in the year of 512AV a call went out from the Grandmaster himself to the people of Syliras asking for aid. For so many years it was the Knights that came to the aid of the many men and women that did dwell within the tall stone walls of Syliras, but as of this Summer the tables had turned. It was the Knights now that needed help, and some five hundred people had answered the request. Perhaps it was due to the Djed storms that people finally began to understand just how much the Knights gave to Syliras, but with that understanding came people, laborers, hunters, smiths, leatherworkers, cooks, doctors, mercenaries, even outlaws that had served their terms within the mines that decided to put their lives on the line.

It was said that a fantastic power had entered the world of Mizahar, one which would change Syliras forever, creating a safer and more majestic civilization. The Grandmaster did not expect his citizens to sacrifice themselves without payment of course, the prize for success was said to be the largest 'bounty' ever offered in Syliras, although its actual numeric value was not disclosed. However, the choices of whom would be accompanying the Knights on this quest was strict. Each volunteer was subjected through an intense interrogation in order to verify they were not spies from unscrupulous sources.

Approximately two-hundred remained in the end, and on the 42nd day of Summer those selected were directed into a large gathering hall deep within one of the Military compounds of Syliras, a place where civilians typically never went. Knights lined the various doorways, ensuring the volunteers followed the correct path and did not stray. A pair of heavy oaken doors were the final goal, and inside them lie a meeting hall quite literally fit for a King. Enormous tapestries fell from the walls, stained glass covered the windows, and brass sconces lined the walls.

Once everyone was in attendance two Knights slowly closed the doors behind the huge group and stood casually at the exit, not truly to allow no one to exit, but instead ensuring no one interrupted.

"Ladies and Gentlemen." a voice called out from the far end of the room where a raised stage had been crafted from wood and stone, utilized in order to give orations to troops. There stood a fairly unassuming man with dark hair and hazel eyes. The thing that separated him from his peers was the pin upon his right collar. It was a pin almost no one saw in their day to day life, because there was only one in all of Syliras. The pin of the Windoak, the symbol of Syliras' grandmaster. "I am Loren Dyres, and I have gathered you here to offer you a chance to become part of a major historical event. Before we go any further, I will describe the payment for any individuals who participate in this event and are met with success, as I would not ask my people give their service unto me without just rewards."

At the word 'reward' the entire room suddenly hushed. The silence was uncanny, as if two-hundred sets of lungs suddenly stopped breathing. "Any man or woman may choose between five thousand golden mizas, or a completely renovated and furnished multi-room luxury suite within the walls of Syliras at no cost."

"Five thousand mizas, that's two years Sergeants pay..." one man whispered to a collegue in disbelief.

"An entire suite at no cost, with multiple rooms...within Syliras!? How can this be?" another gasped, wiping a screen of sweat from his eyes.

"Just rewards..." the Grandmaster spoke back up, "...and they shall be quite deserved. For in the far east rests a city known as Sahova, and it is there that one thousand Knights, one thousand Squires, and you two hundred very special souls will be heading. Word has come to Syliras of a fantastic artifact resting within Sahova, an artifact that has made itself known as the rightful property of Syliras. So, just as the Kabrin Road was built, just as the Zeltiva-Syliras road was built, and just as the very city of Syliras was built, we must travel beyond the walls of our city so that generations to come can prosper from the great work we shall do, and the wonders we shall achieve. I truly thank all of you for offering your services up for the benefit of Syliras. In three days we shall travel to Zeltiva to rest and restock any wares. Then it shall be off to Sunberth, city of the Lawless. From there we must travel by sea to Sahova, and it is there we shall meet our destiny."

To say the crowd of two-hundred was anxious would have been an understatement. Already the gossip and talk had begun. A massive trek, an epic quest, and for some most importantly of all, the thousands of mizas that lay upon the line. "I will not lie to you my kinsmen, our path is not so well illuminated. Beyond the city where this artifact lie, I can offer no other information. It may be as tiny as a grain of sand, or as large as an entire castle. Also do not be fooled, the power this artifact radiates will have others looking to obtain it for their own ends. We may not be searching for this object alone. The possibility for conflict is highly possible. We also don't know what sort of trials may stand in our way, which is why men and women of all walks of life have been accepted. But fear not, through wisdom or warfare, we shall retrieve that which can lead Syliras to a brighter future. For now rest well and prepare, for in three days time we embark. Again I thank you. You are all so important to me, perhaps more than you will ever understand."

As the Grandmaster finished a quick yet formal salute was offered up by the several ranking Knights littered within the crowd, to which he answered before retreating back from where he came.

Secret :
Alright folks, hello and welcome to the beginning of the Syliras portion of the Sylira Regional Quest. This thread is mostly to 'set the stage' so to speak. You can feel free to post at will and interact with one another as much as you want, but the actual adventuring will take place in various 'segmented' threads run by a plethora of moderators. Each thread will involve smaller groups of players compared to the some 40 or so that have volunteered across the many cities within Sylira, and will involve various adventures and trials. The group will not make it to Sahova this season, but you will make it to Zeltiva on the 80th of Summer, so feel free to post there with timestamps after that day. The group will then arrive in Sunberth on the 35th of Fall, and finally in Sahova on the 50th of Fall, so keep those dates in mind for your posting as well.

I'll mention quickly about the luxury multi-room suite offered as a prize. Essentially this is a fun little prize, something different from the typical 'bunch of money' that one can often earn in a quest. I will allow any player choosing it to design a luxury suite with a total budget of 7500gm (this is WITH the -25% adjustment to cost that you get for building/purchasing something all at once), and that will become their new home. Pretty neat right? Or one can simply accept the 5000gm in cash. Realize these rewards are in addition to the various amazing things you could earn or find during this quest, such as magic items, Gnosis, etc. The difference between those incidental rewards and this incentive reward is this incentive reward comes to you only if you succeed.

Recognize that Ravok has it's own quest sign up, and it has been quite active much like our own. So yes, you will be directly going up against another set of players, and one group will be successful, while the other will be met with failure. This success and failure will change the very future of both cities, exciting!

Keep an eye out for the various segmented adventures within the wildlands you can join as you make your way toward Sahova. Some will involve combat, some will involve tracking or hunting, others will involve unraveling mysteries, etc. We are going to try to account for the various interests players have, all while keeping things fun and fresh.

Now is a good time to start meeting and PMing one another in order to figure out who you'd like to group with for the segmented adventures. Plus it's just always good to meet new people! Anyway folks, I do hope you have fun and enjoy!

[Regional Quest - Prologue] The Annoucement (Questers Only)

Postby Imass on July 1st, 2012, 1:57 pm

Imass watched vigilantly as a couple hundred men and women got herded into the military hall. Imass stood completely still near the front of the room. Although he was merely an unranked knight, his uniform was impeccable and spotless. He made sure to look his best on this momentous day. His eyes scanned through the whole crowd to make sure that no one was out of line. His gaze passed through many different types of people; sell swords, peasants, artisans, ruffians, hooligans, travelers, merchants, and even sketchy looking people. It was an astonishment how many different people got selected, but Imass would not question the decisions of the knights. The thought never even entered his mind.

The doors were shut tightly and Grandmaster Dyres addressed the crowd before him. He was cut, dry, and straight to the point. He explained the situation and announced a hefty reward for the successful capture of item in question. The room began to whisper, but the Grandmaster got their attention again by explaining the plan. One thousand knights, one thousand squires, and this motley group of individuals would march in three days’ time.

Dyres's last words really got to Imass: "...it is there we shall meet our destiny." He felt his heart flutter. He understood now what his destiny was. He did not care if he died on this journey, as long as he was able to fight on the front lines. He worried little for his own safety. Everything he did was for the order and if it was his destiny to die for the greater good then he would. The reward meant absolutely nothing to him. The Grandmaster finished the speech by affirming that the path ahead was not clear. Imass could see that many in the crowd were worried, but not him. The knight took everything day by day and this was no different.

His mind was set, his soul was bent. Imass the Zealous would march on Sahova.

"FOR SYLIRAS! FOR SYLIRAS!! FOR SYLIRAS!!" Imass roared as soon as the Grandmaster retreated out of visual distance. The knight held clenched fists in the air and attempted to psyche up the whole crowd, "WE MARCH ON SAHOVA! WE MARCH FOR SYLIRAS!"

[Regional Quest - Prologue] The Annoucement (Questers Only)

Postby Talulah on July 2nd, 2012, 10:30 pm

Talulah moved to the grand looking hall, wide-eyed and staring around in awe like a child, watching the stoic knights as she passed them. She was one of the last in the hall but, using her small size to her advantage, she quickly slipped through the crowd until she was standing near the front of the room. Beside her stood a knight with blue skin and when she saw his skin color, she giggled a little. He was over a foot taller than her and his uniform had obviously been meticulously cleaned. He looked over the crowd but did not seem to notice the small girl beside him.

Talulah focused on the Grandmaster as he started speaking. The talk of rewards excited her a little but she was really here for the adventure, for the journey. The rewards were only small fringe benefits. Unlike the others, the talk of danger excited her and she was eager to get started on this journey.

"FOR SYLIRAS! FOR SYLIRAS!! FOR SYLIRAS!! WE MARCH ON SAHOVA! WE MARCH FOR SYLIRAS!" roared the knight beside her, making her jump. She grinned and raised her fists in the air like him, jumping up and down so that she would be seen, and repeated his words in as loud a voice as she could summon. "FOR SYLIRAS! FOR SYLIRAS!! FOR SYLIRAS!! WE MARCH ON SAHOVA! WE MARCH FOR SYLIRAS!"

[Regional Quest - Prologue] The Annoucement (Questers Only)

Postby Eridanus on July 4th, 2012, 6:12 am

Image
There was a hushed silence at the end of the Grandmaster's speech as everyone struggled to analyse the situation that was given to them. A hefty reward in the face of possibly unknown and potentially overwhelming dangers. A huge risk for a huge reward. Upon the leader of the Knights leaving, the whole hall exploded into a cacophony of activity as the various mercenaries chosen by the Organization began to talk to each other, discussing the speech.

Eridanus and Nira'lia had entered Syliras due to a certain niggling feeling she felt, and upon arrival she had immediately pointed out that the symbol of the tree that the Knights had so revered was the one that appeared in her dreams. That made him even more certain that a certain power was calling them to the fortress city.

It was only a matter of time when the Knights made an announcement to aid the city for an upcoming quest, and it was the announcement that provided the duo with the sufficient direction to proceed.

The tests and interviews were rigorous, of course, but the vantha breezed through it easily. He had been forthcoming with issues he knew that the Knights might find suspicious, and fully disclosed his ethaefal status, as well as his understanding of magics. However, the fact that he had lived in Syliras for a while in the past while not causing any trouble was in his favour. Furthermore, the Knights had been duly impressed with his overwhelming mastery of swordsmanship, and his ability to integrate combat and defensive magics in battle. The recognition of a Wysar-marked Knight of his own possession of Evantia was the final sealer of the deal, and he was quickly ushered into the folds of the accepted.

The vantha's reminiscence was disturbed when a chant began to rise within the hall, and he noticed a muscular, blue warrior shouting the same phrase over and over again. Smirking quietly, he nudged his konti companion, asking, "What are your thoughts on this, Nira? Our premonitions were exactly spot-on."

NOTICE: I am currently mostly inactive til August. As such, guild activities are temporarily halted (watch out for major revamps, changes and organizations when I'm back in full force). Any activity with Eri will be rather slow as well, but I am slowly readjusting back to "Mizahar life", so to speak, so do PM me if we have a thread that I left hanging and we'll talk.

[Regional Quest - Prologue] The Annoucement (Questers Only)

Postby Nira'lia on July 4th, 2012, 1:29 pm

"F-five thousand golden mizas!" whispered Nira'lia in surprise. She had never held that much money in her entire life. She wasn't particularly materialistic, but anybody would look up at the mention of that much cash.

She listened to the Grandmaster with much focus. Her eyes were transfixed on the pin on his cloak. It had the symbol of the tree she had seen in her vision. Up until this point, she still didn't know the connection... but she certainly felt like they were on the right track.

The Konti felt pleased and slightly proud to be among the people present. She was thankful that they needed a medic such as her, especially one marked by Rak'keli. Nira'lia thought it would be challenging to explain why she had come to Syliras at such a coincidental time, but showing them Avalis's mark seemed to explain it all.

'But I don't want to go to Sunberth...' she thought, troubled. Nira'lia could tell that there were other things to worry about, dangers that were foreseen, but the lawless city was what weighed heavily in her mind.

"Eh..." murmured the Nira'lia as she glanced up as people started to yell. The Konti felt someone nudge her and she glanced at Eridanus. She thought about his question for a while before saying, "I don't know what to think about this... I'm relieved, though. We apparently came here for a purpose."

Nira'lia saw that a number of the people present were chanting along with the Knight. She grinned to herself but didn't join in as she simply watched the people around them. For some reason, it felt strange for her to show such enthusiasm for Syliras. After all, she wasn't actually from the city. At the same time though, she was very thankful. Even if they were going to pass by Sunberth, they were going to go on a journey, something which excited her.

[Regional Quest - Prologue] The Annoucement (Questers Only)

Postby Gaius Sivet on July 6th, 2012, 1:37 am

Gaius stood in stunned silence, even as the room around him erupted in cheers and hushed conversation. The rewards were obviously enough to stun most minds, but his was focused on other things entirely. The lack of knowledge. They were moving out blind and nothing frightened him more.

Am I prepared for this? Can I ever be ready for something like this? I'm such a novice in everything I know, what if my skills don't stand up to the trials?
Gaius thought to himself, his mind spinning with the myriad of possibilities. He took a deep, slow breath, calming his thoughts, sinking into the inner sanctum of his mind to calm himself.

Think about it logically, part of him thought. A mental image appeared, a tall ceilinged room with tall windows appeared and a tall, thin, scholarly Inartan stood before his vision in the simple robes of a scribe or teacher. You'll never truly be ready for anything. But if you don't try, you can't succeeded. On the contrary, if you don't try, you only lose. Now then, enough of this foolish worry. There's work to be done.

Gaius nodded to himself, opening his eyes. With that, the mental room vanished and Gaius turned to leave the room. The doors at the rear had been opened and people were slowly trickling out, still talking of the rewards, the possibilities. To his ears, they all sounded far too happy, none of them worried enough. Then, he pushed the thought from his mind and exited the building.

[Regional Quest - Prologue] The Annoucement (Questers Only)

Postby Don on July 6th, 2012, 6:29 am

To Don, 5000 mizas was a fortune. All the things he could do with it, to the knight, the possibilities almost seemed endless. He had no need for a new apartment, as he was rarely home, so the need for such luxuries did not seem necessary. No, with such a hefty amount of gold he would be able to buy the best blade he could, and reinforce his Syliran armor to such extents that his body would almost become an impenetrable wall of armor. He could have bought himself endless supplies of food, and enough ale to last the rest of his life. Nonetheless, what his reward would be spent on was not the important issue at the time.

He had to earn the reward first.

And Don had heard tales of Sahova, swirling stories that revolved around the citadel. They were not good natured, that was certain. He did not know if they were true or if they were not, though Don realized that soon he would find out, alongside the other people that littered the grand hall. The windoak had called to him, for one final test. And Don would heed such call, with sword ready and mind focused. He did not know if he would make it out alive, though at least he would perish for the good of his city. And it was this stalwart sense of defence that allowed him to be in that room, at that time. He had lived his entire life serving Syliras, and trained to become a knight since his youth. There was no way he would not be accepted to aid his people on the march.

As the Grandmaster finished his speech and the crowd roared, Don could hear the distinct shouting of a male and female across from him. Whilst the crowd was tight-knit and close together, he could still make out the figures that were shouting above the rest. The others either yelled themselves or stared at the two, though Don just smiled. Whatever this item was, whatever power it possessed, he would help find it. He had complete faith in those that stood around him, and knew that even if he did not return home alive, that some would. There was that faint glimmer of hope that shone through like light in a tunnel shaft, providing that subtle taste of warmth and happiness.

Don chose not to shout and yell, and merely remained still with his arms folded, a smile plastered beneath his thick beard. There was hope. There always was. And the large, overweight man beside him thought the same, as he turned to Don with a toothless, vile-smelling grin. A tuft of gray hair sat upon his balding skull, and his body was clad in thick furs and leathers. Two axes hung from his hips, the iron dull and chipped. He seemed like he was from the North, where it was far colder, and such attire was necessary. Why such a man was in Syliras, the Knight did not know, though he was obviously skilled to be accepted into the fray.

The mans smile soon faded into a cautious look, and he turned back to the Grandmaster and began clapping, speaking to Donathon without actually looking at him.

"5000 gold mizas will 'ave me all the damn grog I can buy! You better be petchin' ready knight, this won't be no stroll! I've 'eard that Sahova is full of undead monstrosities, with men that will burn the very flesh from your body without killin' ya! What a painful death ay? I damn hope this little artifact we're after is worth the trouble!"

Don only smiled and nodded in response, and began clapping himself. He knew it would be no stroll, no, it would be far more than even the longest, most exhausting sprint.

[Regional Quest - Prologue] The Annoucement (Questers Only)

Postby Jason Alexander on July 7th, 2012, 7:37 am

Standing in the back of the group with his hood pulled over his head, putting his face into darkness Jason listened silently as the Grandmaster spoke of the upcoming task that had put the majority of Knight at full alert, a state Jason had only seen them in a few times during his childhood within the city. Looking around the room as the Grandmaster continued, he noticed a pair of Knights posted on each side of the doors. Continuing his search of the room, Jason found where Bob was standing. When they both came into the room, Bob made his way to the front so that he wouldn’t have to try so hard to see what was taking place in the front. Whereas when Jason entered just after his shorter friend, Jason made his way to the back of the room and the group of people taking a place where he could escape the many eyes of the numerous Knights near the front of the crowd. Looking among the group of that the Knights had selected, Jason noticed people from many different backgrounds from what appeared to be healers, to craftsmen, to sword for hires, to maybe a few mages like himself.

“"Any man or woman may choose between five thousand golden mizas, or a completely renovated and furnished multi-room luxury suite within the walls of Syliras at no cost." Spoke the Grandmaster towards what appeared to be the end of his speech. Jason looked towards the elder knight, in shock. 5000 mizas was a lot of money to someone like Jason. The room was nothing; he gave up his families suite when his mother passed those many years back. But the gold, that was a real prize. With 5000 Mizas, Jason could purchase a research building within a city like Zeltiva. As the Grandmaster finished and the Knights and some of the citizens began their chant of “FOR SYLIRAS! FOR SYLIRAS!! FOR SYLIRAS!!" and broke into groups of fellow comrades to discus the news. Jason made his way towards the front looking for Bob, who would be just as excited about the reward money as himself. But to Jason one thing was for sure, this would be no easy task and it would require Jason and Bob to work with others, skilled in other arts if they were to both succeed and live through this quest. Over the noise of the talking the chanting had changed to “WE MARCH ON SAHOVA! WE MARCH FOR SYLIRAS!"

[Regional Quest - Prologue] The Annoucement (Questers Only)

Postby Val'pold Aurelius on July 7th, 2012, 8:22 pm

Val'pold had offered his services as soon as he heard about the call for aid to search for the artifacts or what ever it was exactly. He strongly believed that Sylris was the greatest hoe for the rebuilding of shattered civilization. It had been fiver hundred years and the sentient races of the world were still struggling to rebuild. Sylris had made great progress and had other places like Mura dn Riverfall, but they were just like gems on the world map. So easy to Brush away.

He had listened to the Grandmasters speach and was just as surprised as others at the offer of 5000 or a apartment. Neither would be given lightly, but it also brought home the point of how important this quest was. He turned his face away from the Grandmaster and looked at the floor for a moment, his handsome face showing that he was deep in thought. He was thinking of how dangerous this would be. But that was why he was a knight to protect and to serve. He wouldn't be stupid going into this but he was going to go into it. Raising his blue eyes up again he wastched as the Knight Imass started a simple chant for the glory of the city. Val looked around the crowd as conversation and chanting buzzed. There were many here, and many who hadn't been choosen. They had stepped forward to help the city, and he felt a small burning of pride in his gut.

He didn't join in the chanting but he did join in the clapping.

[Regional Quest - Prologue] The Annoucement (Questers Only)

Postby Bob Barton on July 8th, 2012, 6:52 pm

Bob still could not believe that he was in the room along with all the others especially after that harrowing interview he had to go through but then if Jason was along with him, there had to be something more to it than finding out their prospects capabilities because he knew that Jason is capable of being one of the most hated men by the knights. That and Bob knew that he did not look like the most capable person out there but that was why he was able to get out of a lot of troublesome situations. He had a while to think on his interview before deciding if he should go to the gathering. Though he was given an exhausting slew of questions, from his name, origin and trade, the usual stuff he believed that the others were the important ones. It was as if they was questioning his motivations for answering the call and whether or not is was affiliated with anyone.

Those were questions easily answered by anyone who knew Bob who only looked out for himself and maybe his friends like Jason who could do things for him but mostly it was for himself. There will be no regrets for Bob to trust in the Grandmaster's bounty while he was also suspecting that this was all a ploy by the knights to wipe out all the unscrupulous people in the city once when the doors closed behind him. Especially when the reward was "f-f-five thousand mizas?!?" That can allow Bob to waste his days in the Spinning Coin for a year...as well as all of those mizas... Actually rethinking it, a better idea would be "a vacation home that is properly guarded does not sound too bad" especially since Bob has a tendency to get into trouble. It also "sounds better than your old place eh Jason?"

Also a lot better than Sahova. Bob knows about the place and it is not really that nice for humans to live in. How bad it was is up in the ranks somewhere with Sunberth and "the Grandmaster really knows what hes offering. How many people actually will get to collect?" especially with the warning that there might be enemies. He thought it was good luck to pay Syliras a visit with Jason for the man's personal affairs but now seeing those cheering people "I don't think they know what they're getting themselves into..." especially those people who continued on what the akalak started. Jason is not going to be enough. There should be another few meatshields around that Bob can tri...convince to team up with. "Lets look around and see what else we can find."
