Customs Office

ImageThis Office houses the administrative branch of the Sailor's Guild, overseeing the vast quantities of goods coming in and out of the city, and working alongside the Wave Guard to combat smuggling in the Mathews Bay area.

The exterior and interior of the building are rather garish in colour, but inside, there is a more ornate touch, with old paintings and lamps. Mahogany desks and chairs were brought in especially. A central foyer leads off to the Customs Officer's room, and the other staffing space. Within the foyer is a large desk, at which merchants must come to have their papers stamped and to pay their import fees.

As well as a room for the Customs Officer himself, the building houses other staff in the team, such as Searchers (who search inbound and outgoing ships) and the Tide Waiters (who accompany ships out into Mathews Bay to oversee any possible suspicious activity). Suspicious persons and merchants are brought into the Office to face the Customs Officer. After questioning, they may or may not be passed into the Lord of Council's custody.

All merchants bringing goods into the city must report to the Office too - to pay their customs. Due to the nature and scale of trade in Zeltiva, the city makes a small profit from charging customs fees on all imports.

An imposing, sharp-witted man, Grimtook is Zeltiva's current Customs Officer, and he takes no prisoners. Years of experience have trained him in spotting the shiftiest of characters, and he is more than happy to pass those people on to Maria herself. It is said that George is so intimidating, he can get answers from a dead man.
