Drifting Peacefully Through Life.
Shyam's early life was simple and quite. He enjoyed, taking naps, listening to musicians play and meeting people. In short he did not stress himself unnecessarily. Because of his fast growth he never really learned to play with the other kids, but he got along with them and occasionally did a few fun things with them. He helped his father who was an Avora, a glassworker to be exact, in the workshop. Maybe it was because of this, or because of where he was born, Shyam developed a taste for beauty. All kinds of beauty interested him He learnt that people were like glass pieces. The could be flawless and gorgeous, but because of this they could also seem empty. Then there were the people who were flawed, but those same flaws made them even more beautiful then the perfect sculpture. Wanting to learn about as many kind of people as possible he spoke to people often. If they were new to Wind Reach, they interested him more. The minstrels and bards were among his favourites, because they brought stories of where they had travelled and knew of things that he had never experienced. He enjoyed listening to their tales and to the beautiful songs of countries he had never seen before.
His other obsession was flying. The Endal were people he looked up to in awe. His father was friends with a few and when he went to meet them Shyam always made sure to go. That was only so that he could meet the great wind eagles. Those beautiful creatures that inspired fear and amazement, in him. Seeing one of them up close was amazing and he always dreamed and imagined of the day when he too could ride one of those legendary beasts. The riders were also people he respected. He heard the tales of how they would seek a new born Wind Eagle and they would always visit it never giving up, day in and day out always bringing gifts to the creatures on the hope that it would acknowledge them, and give them the honour of riding them. He imagined sitting on the Eagle, flying through the sky, touching the clouds and moving through that beautiful blue sky that he loved. It was something that he vowed to do once before he died no matter what. His father seeing the determination in him gave him an egg. He told him that if he could take care of the creature that was born from this egg, the his dream of flying on an eagle would be much more then just a dream.
Shyam took this message to heart. He made sure to learn how to take care of birds. He took advice from professional hunters who used birds-of-prey to hunt, about how to hatch an egg. He worked hard keeping it warm and comfortable and after awhile when he was feeling heart-broken because he thought that his friend had died, it hatched. What he felt at that moment was a happiness so profound that he cried, tears of joy. After that he worked even harder keeping the little falcon safe. He asked a few carpenters who gladly helped him, for a large wooden cage that was as stable as possible and that was fixed in place. He then got made a small next for his falcon to stay in and he covered it with, heat-insulating cloth so that the little chick would not freeze. He got fish from the harbour every second day as food for his friend. Time flew and the chick grew up. He moved it from the small cage to a larger cage so that it had space to start flying. During this time he went to an Avora who was a leather-worker and got equipment for his hawk. He worked with her to get measurements for Aesir's hood and jesses. He considered getting a tag to identify her but he knew that he would always be able to identify her. After getting all that the next two major steps came. Flying and hunting.
Flying was something that came naturally to Aesir. It was something that she was born to do. Hunting was hard though. He waited for her to get accustomed to it and for her to strengthen her wings. After awhile he started taking her out of her cage. She would fly for a while before returning to him. He got her accustomed to the hood and the jesses making sure they fit her properly, so that training would be easier. Then he taught her how to fly to and from a certain destination. After awhile he was able to make her do small tasks like following someone and showing him where they went or retrieving items for him. Shyam left for the first real hunting trip with Aesir after 2 months of training her. They were able to get a few rabbit and he was really happy and proud. He decided to hurry home to show his parents but little did he know that his peaceful days were over.
A Cruel Awakening.
Ecstatic that he was able to catch some prey with Aesir he ran home, feeling like he was soaring on the back of a Wind Eagle through the heavenly sky. He felt ecstatic, and elated and so full of pride that it was almost like he was gonna burst. With the in a pack that he had slung over his back and Aesir flying in the sky with him he ran home. Jumping over obstacles slipping and sliding but never falling down or slowing down in the slightest. Finally he got to Wind Reach. If he had slowed he would have noticed something was off. He finally reached his house to see his mother crying on the front porch. His father's friends were standing around her at the front porch, with her female friends holding her hand and helping her. The look that he saw on his mother's face when she saw him stayed with him for the rest of his life. Her eyes were filled with so many emotions, but the most prevalent were agony sadness fear and anger. None of the men could look him in the eye and instead looking anywhere else but never meeting his eyes. He didn't want to know what happened and his brain was saying that he should run. Turn around and run , instead of facing what it knew was gonna hurt him immeasurably, but he knew that he had to support his mother for her pain was definitely worse then his. He dropped the pack on the ground and walked over to her. Stopping in front of her he crouched down. Without saying anything he hugged her and she started crying heavily on his shoulder. Her wails were full of sadness and agony and they filled him with despair and fear, but he knew that if he also broke-down there would be no one to take care of his mother. After awhile a doctor came. She cast a sleeping spell on his mother that would keep her in a deep, dreamless sleep. While she slept he asked the men what had happened.
Apparently his father had gone on a hunting trip with some friends. It was supposed to be safe and simple, but Fate had other plans. A storm appeared out of nowhere. So fast that it was almost impossible to predict. It tore through where they were hunting. They looked for a place to hide, but they were them ambushed. The ones of ground fought as well as they could, but were unable to get assistance from the Endal because of the storm. All they could do was find a place for the Eagles to be safe and then come on foot. By the time they arrived it was too late. The men were all dead, with all their valuables gone. All their bodies are completely mangled. As if they were attacked by a wild beast. Their bodies were unable to be brought back as they were in too many pieces, and they didn't know if they were gonna be attacked again so they decided to cremate their bodies. They searched for some dry wood and after building a bonfire around and above them, they set it on fire. They made sure that it would burn well enough and long enough and then they headed back home to report what had happened. |
