"Are you a healer?" He asked right off. If Caelum was, there was no sense in him trying anything. He wasn't a healer, and he wouldn't want to set them wrong. Even if the process had always seemed simple from the outside. He wouldn't risk holding things correctly on an educated guess.

"Yes, please. If you would. Then we can begin stripping them. There are plenty of those around here that could use new boots and what not." If there was gold in their pockets, they would simply divide it three ways. One for the Gods, and then two for them. He supposed he'd discuss that if pressed.

Ambush-Flashback [Cerus & Caelum]

Postby Caelum on April 20th, 2010, 2:40 am

A nod or, maybe, a shrug passed through Caelum as he closed the distance between them. The shortened stick of pale beechwood along with several of the smaller items retrieved were tucked into pockets before he reached for Cerus' hand. A frown of concentration made grim the line of his mouth as he spilled fingertips featherlight down the flesh of the busted fingers.

Abruptly and without warning, his own fingers clenched and then jerked with a sickening pop and crackle of bones and sinew snapping back into place, rubbing and grinding against each other. He carried out as if nothing out of the ordinary had just happened, pressing knuckles against the joints of Cerus' wrist and flexing the man's hand forth and back again.

He said nothing about stripping the dead, which probably was agreement.

"That's fine." Pain was the hardest emotion to mask for Cerus, and getting his fingers set properly certainly qualified. He clenched his teeth hard and then nodded. "Thank you. Again." Seemed to be a day of thank yous.

"It will have to be a group, I think. To send them off properly. Let them go to the Gods with their companions around. Perhaps they'll take mercy." He turned his hand over giving it a one over. "I'll go start gathering things to make a proper pyre."

Ambush-Flashback [Cerus & Caelum]

"Hold on," Caelum muttered, tightening calloused in fingers about the man's wrist to hold him still. With his free hand, he dug that smooth, narrow plank of pale birch from his pocket and positioned it beneath the joints of busted fingers. The muslin came next, juggled up from his jacket, and it was used to strap the man's busted fingers to the plank of wood. Deftly knotted at the end, Caelum nodded to himself. The last thing to emerge from a pocket was a crude looking vial filled with a murky looking liquid that he offered out on a still blood stained hand.

"For the inflammation and the pain," he explained.

Ambush-Flashback [Cerus & Caelum]

"Oh, you don't have to do that. That must be expensive." Vials like that usually cost. Be it magic or simple herbs. "Besides, no one has ever died from a little pain. A lot of pain, yes. But broken fingers?" He smiled, only then thinking of what he had.

"Wait, inflammation?" He would have rather not have anything that sounded like loosing his fingers. And that was what that sounded like. "You know, on second thought, maybe I should take that."

Caelum raised an eyebrow and shook the vial lightly. "Yeah," a ghost of amusement. "You should take it. The inflammation could be bad. It's white willow and tumeric with a drop of bromelain for taste. Not poison, promise."

Ambush-Flashback [Cerus & Caelum]

"Right, well. I hope you're not the sort to go all that trouble just to poison me. That would be rather counter productive after all that. You could've just ridden away. I'm glad you didn't, believe me, but still." Not a man to hold his tongue he took the vial and tucked it away in one of his numerous hidden pockets along his sleeve.

"Get to it then." He new putting it off any longer would just leave them there further after dark. "I suppose, unless you'd like to say something." He had no idea what one would say in this situation. He'd never been in anything remotely like it before.

Ambush-Flashback [Cerus & Caelum]

Appreciation Time!

Name: Caelum

Experience: +1 Riding, +2 Dagger, +1 Medicine
Lore: Being Ambushed, Setting Bones

Name: Cerus

Experience: +2 Riding, +1 Rhetoric
Lore: Being Ambushed

Additional Notes: Cerus, I am not sure you would have been able to stay on the horse at this level, if you took both hands off the reins to shoot your bow. So your archery points have been docked. It was also a bit confusing to read since it started in the middle of things; but then again, I suppose an ambush would be a rather confusing thing. Other than that, the thread was a good one. I am sorry I couldn't award more, being that the thread was so short. Keep up the good work though, and feel free to pm me if you have any questions or concerns.
