Plants and Proffesors [Hadrian]

Once her sentiment was acknowledged, Pa'haite quietly put her slate away. Seeing the man's expression she couldn't help but allow a small smile. He must have felt it too somehow, the little seeds below them. She looked at him more carefully now, with a look, not quite of admiration, but of fascination, not unlike the one she got on finding and studying a new plant. The many healers she had known throughout her childhood were all very brilliant, very practiced in their arts. But to her they all seemed to have this odd, subtle sense of ignorance. Almost all people she came by did. This man, he was different. Strange. He lacked that. Sure, she didn't care much of at all for people. This one however seemed to have some value worthy of note.

When he gave her a questioning glance she broke away from her thoughts and nodded. The earthworms. It seemed he was willing to help with them, and judging by the display just a moment ago he was probably capable of doing so. This time, though, she wanted to show him how she did it her way.

She scanned the trees surrounding the clearing, her eyes carefully searching. Then, on a long branch she spotted it. A brown bird, a nosy little thing that seemed to like to follow her around when it got bored. Pa'haite made eye contact and silently asked it about earthworms. It hesitated, not exactly willing to give up the location of it's favorite food source. She reminded it that it owed her a favor. With resignation it nodded and urged her to follow.

Pa'haite stood and started to walk towards where the bird waited. Turning back, she beckoned for the man to follow her.

Plants and Proffesors [Hadrian]

Postby Hadrian on July 18th, 2012, 5:21 am

Hadrian had fallen into the well of her silence, and so he spoke no further. He was practiced at observation, though, and so he became the silent observer, noticing how the bird reacted to her. Surely she was one of Caiyha's witches to be so concerned with the natural world and its inhabitants; he thought it a good thing for Zeltiva, all things considered. She would surely be working to return their environment to equilibrium after the djed storms and beyond. He decided he would help her when she required it, as Zeltiva was becoming more and more the place where he would spend his life.

He stood and followed her, intuiting her deal with the bird. How handy that must be.

She noted the man's seeming acceptance of the silence. This was good, so many whom she encountered seemed intent on speaking aloud. She found this a waste of time. Action was so much more effective than the incessant babbling of words that were simply lost in thin air the moment they were spoken.

The bird flew swiftly and Pa'haite, having had experience in walking through the area, kept up with ease. She looked back a few times, trying to make sure the man was able to keep up as well. If he would slow down every so often for him, but if he could, then she simply turned back and continued. In either case, he seemed to be willing to help, and and indeed showed the knowledge and ability to give it. She wasn't one to waste such an opportunity.

They reached the area within only a few chimes. The helpful little creature rested on a branch and indicated a spot on the ground beneath the tree and a bush. It was a small spot of dirt, well shaded. The konti girl knelt, brushing her scaled fingers over the spot. There weren't any worms out, so they would need a little coaxing to come up from the soil. Looking up at the man, she made a motion with her hands, an attempt to mimic his work with the water from before, with a little swirling of her fingers mixed in.

She knew of the value of djed, not to be wasted, so she also indicated a small amount, closing her hands closer together.

Plants and Proffesors [Hadrian]

Postby Hadrian on July 29th, 2012, 4:59 am

Hadrian kept pace fairly well with his long, long legs, and when they found the place, he was already moving to flood the earthworms out when she waved him to do so. Some things one could communicate without words easily, especially if one was attempting to stay on the same wavelength as another. Some people just refused to open their eyes and observe what was going on around them.

He knelt down beside her and blanketed the area in a blue glow in no time at all, letting it seep down into the soil before he transmuted it into water. The worms knew how to survive rains and the like, and soon they were struggling to the surface. Hadrian got the woman's attention and pointed to their guide, thinking he should get a full belly for his help and generosity, but it was her call. He was only helping.

Pa'haite watched the wonder of the magic again, kneeling close and watching for the results. She nodded satisfied, seeing that the water was doing it's job and that the worms were showing up. After the man's gesture she looked to the little bird. It really was only right he should receive a reward. The girl was still only in possession of a single mark, to find another creature as willing to help her to find a good place would have been difficult.

She gestured from him down to the worms, and he gave a happy chirp before flitting down and enjoying himself. Pa'haite turned away while he ate. The ability to communicate with all sorts of living creatures had one negative effect on her, and that was that it made the predator-prey concept all the more difficult for her to witness. She knew it was a necessary part of life, of course, but it was unnerving all the same.

While she waited she glanced towards the man. He'd been very helpful. A generous exception to her general opinion of people. Perhaps even someone she could trust for the future?

When her small friend returned to his branch, satisfied, she began to collect the worms, picking them up with her baggy shirt and holding them there. She didn't dare risk touching them directly and "hearing" their reactions to their comrades who had just been eaten. Whether they even knew it happened or what they would think she had no idea but it was a risk she wasn't willing to take.

Plants and Proffesors [Hadrian]

Postby Hadrian on August 11th, 2012, 7:20 pm

He would have been surprised to know how she disliked the nature of the world. From what little he knew of Caiyha's witches, they grew more and more inhuman, more and more forces of nature rather than the people they had been. And worms could suffer, he supposed, but he would not have said they could suffer as people did, or even humans. But there were many factors; this might be a new witch, or his understanding of worms, birds, and everything might very well be rubbish.

All the same, he waved to the bird as if Eywaat were watching and turned to follow the white witch back to the ground they were rehabilitating. He wasn't sure what else he could do to help just then, so instead he strove to observe and learn from her and whatever lessons Caiyha might teach him through her witch.
