Summer 9, 512 AV The sun sparkled against muddied irises, lending them a soft vibrancy not often found there. The pupils remained smoldering coals, fixated upon the reimancer standing before her. Flecked portions sparkled with appreciation as she considered all the training they had done the past few days. Amusement, as she reminisced about some of their more pathetic moments. The rest was cast by her excitement, her pounding heart, for only she knew of the challenge she was about to pose. One she gave a questionable squire many seasons past, when white powder still covered the rolling hills, and a cruel chill bit at the air. Aello took a deep breath, in through the nose and out through the mouth to help steady herself as she lazily trailed her right hand through her hair. Separating some of the strands that had until recently, been woven together. Her lips parted, producing softened pout. "This is our last day of travel together Miro. Our last day to train for quite some time." The woman paused as she pulled her hands out of her hair. "There was a squire once that I helped train in the art of battle. Much as I have done with you. On our last day he was presented with a challenge. It is this same challenge with which we shall part." Her lips curled into a delicate smile. "We have trained in many arts. In many different places. We have fought simply for fun. But now, everything changes. Now, we will fight as though we intend to kill. We will both start in this place, and perhaps, we shall both end here. We will rise now, to the occasion. We will turn our backs on one another and walk. We will hide for a bell's time before returning. Ending this battle for all time." Aello paused as the wind rustled the leaves on the trees, causing them to sway and dance as the folds of her skirts whipped angrily about her ankles. "Hope then, if you will it, that neither of us dies. For this day, we fight with all our strengths. Without rules save for that simple one. Today," she added, as her thumb idly stroked the supple curve of her father's old bow, "we give each other everything we have." |
