Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

Dex reported in the morning to the library, where he got paid to eat breakfast. No really, he got paid, to eat food. Then again, his food was rats, so it was rather plentiful, and the library people don't really like rats, so he was ok with that. So, when he first got up in the morning, he would scamper to the street, and then climb up to run across the rooftops to the library. He'd determined that this was a much more preferable mode of transport, instead of dodging various big blue feet on the street.
Finally coming to the right building, he scampered down to the farthest north corner, where the rats had chewed a hole into their maze inside the walls and shelves of the library. The rats scattered of course, which made his job slightly easier, but also more exciting. Instead of pursuing his breakfast, he scampered down the wall stud and out of a bottom corner, before making his way up to the library desk. As he crawled up, the akalak at the desk noticed him and walked over. Dex bowed his body a few times in recognition, and then scampered back into the walls, having checked in for the day.
After finishing his daily routine, he scampered back into the walls and proceeded to chase down breakfast. The two rats made him quite content, pushing him to take one of his two cat naps that he was allowed on the job. He clambered to the top of a bookcase near the front door, and curled up for a nap. It wasn't terribly long after that, that someone came in, ringing the bell.

Ilana entered the Library, excited at the prospect of learning even more about her new home. She still couldn't come to terms with her luck at waking up on the shores of Riverfall; it was, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful places she had seen so far. Which wasn't really saying much.
Her hair, which was a golden blond now, thanks to the change of seasons, had been tied back, falling in a long plait down her narrow back. Her horns, a pearlescent white, gleamed, easily visible where they curved around her head like a dainty crown.
She wore the clothes given to her by the women at Godiva's Refuge. They were simple, but clean, and she was thankful to have them. Across her back was her quiver, the feathered ends of the arrows brushing the back of her neck as it shifted with her each step, her short bow beside it.
Smiling brightly she glanced around the large room. There were some tables in the middle of the room, and after settling on a book about the history of Riverfall she moved to one of the smaller ones, not wanting to take up unnecessary space. She slid the quiver and her bow from her shoulder and leant the carefully against the table, settling the book on the table gently and settling down in the wooden seat.
Opening the book she sighed in satisfaction as she began to read, unaware of the small eyes watching her.

Dex sluggishly pulled his legs under himself, and crawled forward to the edge of the shelf set to glance down on the curious creature that had just entered the library. She seemed more animal then human, or some near close hybird. She had bright, white horns curling along the side of her head, forming an intricate design. The clothes were a simple thing, similar to what he wore generally in human form.
However, what was curious was the things she wore on her back. She seemed to carry and odd bird in a long tube, with all it's feathers sticking out the top. And on the side of that, she had a very very thin snake tied around two ends of a bent stick.
Hoping that she wasn't a very hungry animal that happened to eat cute ferrets such as himself, he crawled backwards a few short steps, before crouching down and tensing his back legs. He waited a moment, waited a moment, and then released, the power of this back legs pushing him forward into a sprint to the end of the book case. As he reached the end, his front nails curled around the edge of the book case, and pulled himself out and over the edge. As he fell, he brought his legs forward and arched his back, landing with a soft thump on the table in front of her book.
Shaking himself length wise to stretch out his body that got compressed from the landing. Then he swished his tail happily, turned around, and looked up into a rather surprised face.

Ilana's eyes opened wide as she gaped at the little animal before her. She wondered for a split second if it was a rat, but dismissed the thought as she got a proper look at its long body and furry tail. He was small and his fur looked very soft. Ilanas fingers twitched with the sudden urge to reach out and stroke the odd little animal.
"Hello there little fellow." She said quietly, closing her book and pushing it to the side. She leaned forward and held out her hand for him to sniff, hoping that he wouldn't decide to bite her. Realizing that she must sound mad talking to the little animal she looked around quickly, relaxing only when she was sure no one was close enough to hear her.

Awwwwwh, awwwwh, awww yeah. Dex was happy. Happy times. Scratching, so much good scratching. Awwww. So good.
Than the person asked what he was doing there. Well, he figured that if he gave a good ferret answer, the person would probably reward him with good ferret rewards, like scratches. So he pokes his head away and scrambles across the table right onto the floor and towards the wall. From there he went through the various hallways of the library until he found himself at his usual rat chewed hole in the corner of the library, where he also kept his stock pile of some dead rats. A free breakfast and lunch with work. He liked the idea.
Dex promptly picked one up in his mouth, and scuttled back to the table. He propped his body up and tensed his legs. With a focused leap, he sprawled onto the table in a very undignified manner, before scrabbling towards the ... he still didn't know what she was. But it didn't matter, because she was very good at making Dex feel ... very good. Dropping the dead rat a few inches away from her, he climbed back into position in her arms, nudging his head to be scratched again.

"Ewww..." Ilana pulled a face at the dead rat before glancing back down at the little ferret in her arms. "Um... Thank you?" She ran her fingers over the animals back, scratching absentmindedly. She couldn’t sit here and play with the little guy all day, no matter how much she wanted to. She had things that needed doing.
Reaching over the small furry animal she pulled her abandoned book towards her and flipped the cover open while carefully ignoring the dead rat next to it.

Ilana smiled gently at the ferrets antics and dropped her hand to her lap so that she could scratch him behind his ears. Reaching into her pocket she pulled out a few small scraps for jerky, left over from her lunch.
Glancing up she made sure no librarians or caretakers were looming around before picking up one of the large pieces of jerky. "Do you want some?" She asked the little ferret curiously and held the crumb out for him to take, hoping she didn't look as insane as she felt. "I wish you could talk..."
