Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

Sand Castles

Timestamp: 6th of Summer

Ronan walked through the storm doors and out onto the sands. Syna beat down on a world that had grown exponentially in the past few days. Returning to Riverfall, and discovering what he had, had given him a new lease of life. All those winding roads of purpose seeking had come to this.

Strangely, he found himself thinking of new goals, and new targets. Some time ago, this would not have been a normal course of action for Ronan. But now, he felt so complete, and yet compelled to do more. He owed Sama'el his strength. When the pavilion was reborn, he wanted to be ready to begin life as a Watchman. He could at least apprentice himself to his brother, ranging the grasses, and protecting those caught within its deadly grasp.

Kavala was busy with her duties, and so now Ronan found himself pacing the sand, planning on practising his reimancy. It was a magick that Sama'el had inducted him into. Though the experience had been shocking, he found himself with new powers. It seemed strangely appropriate that a stone now lay in the flesh of his hand. Earth was Semele's element. The fact it had come to him first should not really have been a surprise.

Settling down in a quiet spot, a small crab scuttling past nearby, he folded his legs and held out his arms with two fingers pointed upwards on one hand. He closed his eyes, first going into a meditative state to calm and centre himself. Magick was as much about grounding than channeling the actual power. One had to be in a state of mind conducive to the act.

Finally, through breathing in and out, he found himself in a cone of serenity. Opening his eyes again, he began to focus on the djed within him. He felt it leap through the pathways of his body. He willed it to the pores of his skin. To the fingers he held outwards.

Gradually, he found the balance. Searching in the void of innumerable power sifting inside of him, he found the place where he could begin to transmute the djed to res. The liquid oozed from his skin, and his will turned to stone. Rock and stone. Tumbling earth. Grounded world.

Granules of sand began to flow freely from his fingers. This time he focused further, exaggerating the thoughts, channeling more power into it. The granules turned to small stones, and with a little push, became small pebbles. At first they were rough, but he smoothed them, working the res until it shimmered.

She’d been observing this leg-person for a while now. He was unusually quiet for a land-dweller, which only made the girl more interested. She was used to the Svefran sailors who were mostly rowdy and they were one and all much louder than this subject here. Using her most usual land dwelling for as not to freak him out, she’d emerge from the water behind a larger rock. She wanted to see just was it that he’d been doing, and at first it simply looked like he wasn’t doing anything meaningful. After a while, she’d notice bits of grainy sand started rising to him and she was no longer sure about this being just another land-dweller. He could do with sand what she could do with water. Did that make him as important to Semele as she was to Laviku? Holding onto the thought for a while, she’d soon see a crab in the sand close to the man’s feet.

Running out of her hideout, hunger driven and reckless, she’d stop herself halfway. There was no shelter anymore, and she was staring at him plainly. She couldn’t hide anymore, but instead of trying to say something or interrupt the man further, she simply started running again, eagerly measuring the crab. As the silly creature went around the man, she too would skitter in a too close and familiar circle around the land-dweller. And then the crab was gone under a rock. She was terrible at leg-hunting!

Thinking of that…

“What ya doin’ there land-man?” she turned around and grinned like it was the most normal thing in the world. Even if he was dangerous, she couldn’t let it get to her – he was just one and the sea was so close.

She'd slipped away from chores early. It wasn't really that Sanctuary was housing guests again. No, it was more like it was summer and breeding was over, foaling was over, and for a brief period they had a break in the torrent of activity that usually surrounded the facility and there was time to escape. The headaches she got from the reimancy kept her from working much past noon on building projects elsewise she'd be suffering in the afternoon with mind numbing cranal poundings that told her she'd pushed too much. And the afternoons were very full between training young horses, rebuilding, and getting ready to open the school. There was still so much to do, but Kavala was pacing herself. She was enjoying things before the end of summer came around where the frantic need to get hay put away for winter overtook her and she went on mad gathering sprees to get the herbal supplies up in the clinic.

So, having went in search of Ronan and not having found him, she'd gave in to Tasi's demands for her time and had decided some swimming off the beach was in order. So, with the slow measured steps of a toddler, Kavala and her son headed out the sea doors and onto the brightly lit edge of their world. The sand was warm underfoot, the sky an incredible shade of blue above, and her little boy was laughing with eagerness both to have his mother's undivided attention and at the promise of some time in the ocean.

She hadn't yet spotted Ronan or the stranger. Instead her head was tilted down, cocked sideways, and listening to Tasival ramble on and on in his nonsensical lyrical childs babble.

The voice startled Ronan, pulling him from the void of concentration - and his geomancy. He looked up, dazed for a moment by sunlight dancing on the water. He blinked, at first thinking he was imagining the figure that stood before him.

"What... what are you?" he stuttered, frowning. It was female, he was sure of that, but he had never seen anything quite like it. It had been a time for strange sights lately. His thoughts wandered to the Velispar he had encountered in the North, his eyes falling to the stone in his hand uncomfortably.

Land-man... Those words could only come from something that found the sand and soil foreign. From a being that found itself alien to Semele's domain of rich earth, and the glistening stone treasures beneath.

"Be you a creature of the water?" he finally asked, the last granules of sand tumbling from his fingers. "I do not mean to be rude, it is just that I have never seen a person like... like you."

In the near distance, Kavala and little Tasi approached.

[Sanctuary Beach] Sand Castles (Open)

Sun and sand, two things Serrif was very accustomed to from Mura. But here there were subtle differences in the setting that told him this was indeed not Mura. However that didn’t matter much to him, here was starting to slowly feel like home. He wasn’t living in a tent anymore, and there was still a wonderful beach…yes he also had a lab that he could use and well he was able to expand his medical studies even further. Although there were things he did miss. He missed Lym and her nearly endless amount of knowledge. He always had something to learn from her…as well as Ildin his archery mistress. However he knew that here was where he needed to be for now.

His tired legs carried him down the beach at a standard jogging pace; the Sanctuary was coming into view again. He had slowly become more accustomed to his jogs whenever he got the time to. Yes he tended to whatever was needed and he found like Kavala that there was a break in activity. Only unlike her his break came a little earlier than hers did. Mostly because Kavala always seemed to have hundreds of things to do…and never quite enough time to do them all. Something he would like to change for her but he still wasn’t sure how. She always seemed so busy, and well why shouldn’t she? The Sanctuary was her creation and she was its keeper. She had a good head on her shoulders and would be pleased to see that he had taken her advice. A loose fitting white tunic top adorned his chest now. It was a little more exposing than he would like…but that was the point he supposed.

With a glance out over the sands he saw Kavla walking out her little toddler at her side; she was such a good mother in his mind. And he knew so because he had seen so many mothers on Mura. With a smile he looked and there out on the beach was another man he was still somewhat unfamiliar with. He hadn’t formally met him yet but he knew he was one of the Dryka men that Kavala was familiar with. It was nice to have some more people around. The man was up to something…well busy with something anyway. Reimancy…it was still something he didn’t understand very well. Even though he himself was a practitioner of the enigmatic art itself.

But he viewed his gnosis mark as something completely different than the other magics. Maybe it was because he could understand his healing gnosis better and the other magics seemed so…foreign to him still. He just didn’t understand them at all. He knew this well. But he also knew and could see how useful these magics could be when used appropriately. Maybe he would eventually learn more about these things but for now…well he had no clue. But it was indeed entertaining and interesting to watch. He stretched some more to loosen now tightening muscles and walked to intercept Kavala.

“Nice to see you out to enjoy yourself some.” He said once in earshot of her.
