Hess caught the apple one handed and immediately took a bite out of it, discovering that he was extremely hungry by this point. It was irritating that he had no game to show for his pre-dawn rising and hunting efforts. But that was life. He’d go back out later and check the snares he had set before he had clambered up into his make shift deer stand. Hopefully he would have bagged a rabbit or hare or two. “Many thanks, Master Fox,” he grinned around the apple in his mouth. He swallowed and added, “Yes, that makes total sense,” agreeing with Anterra’s philosophical view of a kelvic possibly collaborating with a human hunter to bring down other animals. Of course kelvics weren’t exactly animals. But they were close enough that they might have been expected to have some sympathy for their cousins. On the other hand, what wolf ever showed any great empathy for an elk as it devoured its flesh? They were stood there for a moment, as Anterra gnawed on some jerky and Hess took another bite of apple. The human hunter said, “Perhaps we could meet up then, tomorrow, or whenever you like. I assume you have business to attend to right now, meeting up with your Nij.” Hess enjoyed saying it that way. The name made him think of some tiny bug or maybe even a pycon. He wondered what this witch looked like. “So if you would be interested, name the day and time and place, and I will be there. And we can see how well we do together.” |
