[Flashback] The View From the Edge of The World [Phoenix]

Postby Kiran Pelyna on July 13th, 2012, 1:26 am

Kiran watched, stunned as the two magnificent creatures dropped from the sky. Wind Eagles, fearsome and majestic. Wonderful and frightening. Their screeches of rage rung in her ears and the girl pulled her hands up to protect her ears from the sound. Her eyes were large, barely blinking. Not willing to miss a single second of this.

Wing spread, their span longer than she was tall. Their extended claws like long daggers, hooked and ready to tear and rend flesh from it's moorings of bone and muscle. They raked deep into the face of the monster, in the middle of his leap for Kiran. His scream was what brought her attention back to him, she had been distracted from the Zith by the appearance of the Eagles. Now she didn't look on him with fear. She sat up, pulling her wounds from the ground, her mind not on the pain. She looked at the thing on the ground her eyes filled with contempt and a slight bit of contentment. He would die, she would live. The little girl would too. She was satisfied.

Later the shock would hit her, the knowledge that she had faced down a Zith, that she had been seconds from death. She would hide under her covers and cry until the horrid scene faded from her mind long enough for her to sleep. But she would never for get the fact that she had almost died. The knowledge would follow her everyday, and her hatred of Zith would grow until every time she saw one of them she would go after it with any weapon available to her. Whether they were good or not she would harbor a hate for them.

But she did not know this. Instead she knew that the second eagle was there, slicing it's talons deep into the membrane of his wings. Dark blood ran from the leathery wings as he was hefted from the ground. Another screech filled the air but Kiran's ears were better protected this time by her hands. the other eagle circled back, as they rose Kiran's neck craned, her eyes locked onto the forms. It grabbed the Zith's leg to ease the burden of the other eagle, even form this distance she could see the blood falling form the gashes the deadly talons were creating. A scream rent the air, filling it with pain, despair and hate. Through her hands she heard it before the creature went limp. The eagles continued to rise until she couldn't make out details, then they dropped the monster.

It's body fell past her and the eagles descended, making it obvious they wanted to land. Kiran scrambled back into the cave mouth, giving them the room thy required. She slowly, her body burning in pain from the slashes that bled freely. She swayed somewhat, blood loss making her slightly woozy. She pulled a t her top, the part that still had some fabric, and began to bind the wounds, it was sloppy but some of the wounds on her side stopped bleeding with the tight bandages restricting the blood flow. She looked back at the eagles as they landed. Huge, deadly, beautiful.

Then there was a voice in her head, loud and definitely female. She didn't know how she knew but it was the larger one who spoke to her. And she was obviously unsettled, her feathers were fluffed up and she kept moving, shifting her weight. Kiran's gold eyes eventually met the female's black ones, they were looking at her with such intensity that the hairs on the nape of her neck lifted. As did the one's on her arms. She noticed, distantly that the female had light red colored skin around her eyes and beak. Eventually she tore her eyes from the daunting gaze and she smiled at the comment, blushing slightly. she looked away, brave? No, she was not brave. Perhaps stupid, foolish. Reckless, but she had just done what needed to be done. That girl would've been dead had she not done anything.

Kiran looked at the female's body fully, she had black feathers around her head, trialing down her back and underbelly. The only colors that adorned her body were bands of gray on her wing and tail, and noticeable red feathers between the joint son her wings. She was gorgeous, the most beautiful thing Kiran had ever seen.

"Thank you, Zeryna." she spoke the name with reverence. Hardly believing that a wind eagle would both call her brave and tell her, her name. It was truly amazing.

The next voice to pass through her mind was softer, gentler. Where his sister seemed to barge in he just followed, dancing lightly across her mind. It was obvious he was less the dominant one, his sister seemed to have a presence that insisted on being noticed. She required attention where he seemed more content to hang back. Or perhaps Kiran had misread. But that's how she took it. He was smaller than his sister, hanging back. But even with the height difference you could tell they came form the same clutch, although the male, Pelyna, had a purplish tinge to his eyes and feathers that entranced her.

She thanked them both again, for saving her. For deciding she was worthy of being saved. They could've jut as easily let her fall form the cliff and then killed the Zith, and if she had been useless to the Inartan society she had no doubt they would've. That did not disturb her as it would people of other races, it was how their society worked. They did not need lazy, worthless Dek's they needed strong hunters, Endal's, blacksmiths, healers, and the ilk.

She was slightly surprised that they knew her name, what was her name to them?

Their next comment caught her off guard. Perhaps it would've been creepy, if she wasn't Inartan and they weren't wind eagles. But as it was it was intimidating. to think she had caught the attention of two awe inspiring creatures such as them.

"Why?"

OOCAre these two fledglings or fullgrown eagles?

Because I want you. The pair said at once, those giant heads turning towards each other at once, fathomless black eyes flashing at the other sibling as the two vastly different voices echoed through Kiran's head.

The stare down lasted for a few chimes as Zeryna and Pelyna both puffed themselves up, feathers flaring around their head and their wings half unfurling at their sides. Talons scraped against the stone as they postured, shuffling back and forth at each other. Zeryna was bigger than her brother and had the advantage of the situation, puffing out her chest and shuffling forward a few steps at a time until Pelyna let out a low squawk and snaked his head back and forth. Even if Kiran didn't know the ins and outs of the Wind Eagles behavioral patterns, she would not fail to recognize the challenge between the two.

Besting her brother in their little confrontation and having won the right to speak first, Zeryna turned to face the young Inartan girl again, a strange shiver rippling across that great body as the eagle worked to settle her feathers back down. You have what I want. You're bold and fierce. I have been seeing this for a while now. A short pause, and with a tilt of her head Zeryna pinned Kiran with that piercing gaze. Look at me. It was a command, not a question. How long could Kiran hold that fierce gaze for? What would she see?

When the pairs gaze finally broke, the female Wind Eagle chuckled softly, a softer sound than what Kiran would have heard from the bird before You didn't even hesitate before challenging a beast far larger and stronger than you. It was foolish. Very foolish.. but brave.

You also didn't hesitate before going after the child. Pelyna's voice seemed to whisper through Kiran's mind, yet she didn't have to strain at all to catch a single word. You put others before yourself without any thought or resentment. I have seen this. The small male watched Kiran as he spoke, but he did not demand her attention or her gaze. He didn't boast or posture himself before her like his sister; his pride was a quiet sort of confidence, while Zeryna wanted everyone to know just how awesome she was.

Now you must choose. Again, the pair spoke as one, still as stone as they watched the little Inarta that they just gave an impossible choice. An Endal choosing their Eagle? It was almost unheard of.

[Flashback] The View From the Edge of The World [Phoenix]

Postby Kiran Pelyna on August 23rd, 2012, 1:17 am

Her head swam as both voices chorused their reasoning.
Two. Two Wind Eagles. Two. her mind only thought this, these words on an endless loop in her mind as the two eagles postured and challenged each other. Of course she saw this and a part of her was watching it, taking it in. But she was still shell shocked, could you blame her? Dealing first with a Zith, planning on offing herself before he could, then having two wind eagles telling her they wanted her. Well it was a lot for a young girl to take in, heck it was a lot for anyone to take in! She fought it though, fought against the shock, the slight panic. She pushed it back, she would be able to hyperventilate to her hearts desire in private. For now she would have to keep up being strong, she didn't want either of the eagles to take back their offers because she couldn't hold it back. Kiran had managed to pull herself together by the time the two Eagles had finished their small row. So she was a little bit better prepared when Zeryna's strong Mindvoice broke into her head again.

Bold? Fierce? Her? Kiran thought briefly on these personality traits the Wind Eagle had pointed out. She didn't have much time thought before Zeryna made her demand. The Inartan girl's spine straightened and she met the creatures eyes, her stare as bold as the Eagle thought she was. She knew what this was, the eagle was testing her, to see how strong she really was, and Kiran wasn't ready to let anyone see her as weak. Looking into the gaze of the much stronger, and dangerous creature Kiran saw a strong eagle, a deadly fighter. And she knew it, she radiated confidence, it rolled off of her in waves, her every movement. The very way she held herself. She didn't ask, she demanded. She was almost overpowering. Kiran finally looked away and heard the females next comment.

She blushed at being called foolish, in embarrassment but at being called brave it was a blush of pride. She found she liked being called brave. Especially by one such as she. Not once did the Inartan girl think to question if she was or not, if a Wind Eagle said it was so then it was.

Pelyna's voice was much kinder to her mind. It flowed again through her mind, as soft as a spring breeze. But his comment had her with a slightly confused expression, where she could easily accept fierce, bold and brave. She had been called bold multiple times over, and well she supposed she was fierce and brave if it was said to be so. But she never really thought on the fact that she put others before her, it came so naturally to her. It wasn't a conscious thought, it was just the girls natural personality really. Having it pointed out to her made her consider it, and she found that it was an admirable trait, should it be so. Which it must, if he said it was. It confused the girl ever so slightly, she didn't want to believe so many good things about herself, but she had been raised to trust the Wind Eagles, to follow all orders they gave and that they would always tell her the truth. Or what she needed to know of it.

Looking at Pelyna and meeting his calmer gaze she felt slightly refreshed, he didn't force people to look at him by pouring out confidence and power, no his was a quieter kind. He stood there, well aware that he was strong and not needing to have anyone else but himself know it. Looking at him Kiran wasn't afraid she would be overwhelmed and swallowed by his strength and power.

A part of her had been expecting the next comment but still, she wasn't fully prepared. She was to chose her Eagle? She had never heard of such things, of course their were tales of it but no Endal alive had chosen their Eagle. They were all chosen, it was the Eagle choice. Kiran paled as she looked at the two but deep down, she had already chosen. She knew which Eagle she wanted to be with. Still she didn't want to say it. Would the other eagle be angry with her? Would they attack? Kiran looked at them both, slightly fearful but still she stood straight and spoke. She wouldn't bow down, not now. Not at the greatest moment of her life, not when she finally became an Endal. She would go through this moment strong.

She looked over at Pelyna and smiled, her eyes meeting his. She had chosen.
"Pelyna' She said, almost unnecessarily.

Pelyna showed barely any outward emotion after Kiran said his name, though perhaps the feathers around his head puffed out a bit more than normal; his voice as it rang through the young girls mind, however, almost hurt with the force of his pleasure. It was the loudest that the girl would have heard the bird talk yet, and would undoubtedly bring a smile to her face.

My name is Pelyna, Kiran. And you will be my rider. It was a bit formal, but after the great bird said those words, Kiran would be able to feel the connection between them. Zeryna's presence in her mind was not as strong and quickly withdrawing, the strong female backing away to the edge of the ledge to allow her brother access to his new rider.

The shy, almost apologetic glance that Kiran gave to Zeryna was me with a graceful incline of that massive head, the deadly beak dipping until it touched the stone with the depth of the bird's bow. There is no rift between us, good rider. The bond you now share with my brother makes you dear to me. Your choice was an excellent one. And with that, Zeryna spread her wings and launched herself into the air, leaving the two alone for the first time.

Pelyna's talons clicked on the stone as he hopped foward, almost shy in his approach, his head turned and tilted to the side as he watched Kiran carefully. They had a lot to learn about each other. Would you like to fly? As if on que, when Pelyna asked the question, his sister appeared overhead again. The difference was the saddle that she held carefully in her talons. Lowering carefully back towards the pair, Zeryna dropped the saddle between them with a screech of celebration; the cry echoed off the surrounding rocks, and was answered by the dozens of Wind Eagles that occupied the sky. An Eagle choosing his rider was always call for celebration.

We are the same size... we just had a different girth picked out incase... you know... you chose her... Pelyna shifted from foot to foot, half extending his wings in barely contained excitement.

Well, rider mine...Do you know how to put this on?

The Order of the Phoenix

I loved this thread. I hope you enjoyed it as well! I am sorry that it took so long to get done! Great choice in your eagle (he was my personal favorite). I decided to just go ahead and post despite the PM that I sent you but feel free to start another thread immediately after this one detailing their first ride, as it is an important occasion between eagle and rider. Plus, I wanted you to be able to control him yourself!

The Spoils: Kiran has become an Endal! She is now known to all of Wind Reach as Kiran (Pelyna)! A detailed description of his personality is to follow, as well as a picture.

Image

Pelyna- Male, 2 years old, Twin of Zeryna, Bateleur Eagle
Physical Description: (Up to you, just remember that he is smaller and more agile than a normal Wind Eagle.)

Personality: Twin to Zeryna, Pelyna couldn’t be more different than his sister. Laid back and difficult to motivate, Pelyna is content to just deal with things at they come and tough to anger. Very flighty, this young eagle needs a firm hand and gentle guidance to keep him on track and moving forward. Left to his own devices, Pelyna would never get anything done. However, he is as compassionate and caring as a mother hen, worried more about his rider’s safety than his own. Pelyna is more agile than the other wind eagles, quick to help teach the younger eagles.

Kiran has also received a custom made leather saddle that fits Pelyna perfectly. It is simplistic in design and void of any kind of embellishment, but comes along with reins, straps to hold the rider in place, a blanket, saddle bags and a hook for a weapon of the riders choice.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding your grade, please send me a PM and we can figure it out. :)
