The Otani and the Sailor

Daske crawled to the stern and took the tiller from Lucy. The Lady was rocking and rolling wildly in the twelve-foot swells. He brought her up into the wind and used the mainsheet to pull the boom to the port side, leaving the jib on the starboard side. He slowly let the boom out until the Lady assume a hove-to position. In this position the main and the jib counter-balanced each other so that the boat would first swinging to port and then to starboard and then to port again. This had two effects. First, the motion of the boat subsided considerably. Second, the Lady began to slowly drift backward in long, sweeping arcs. It was the deep water equivalent of anchoring.

“Nice job,” he said to Lucy.

Two tentacles reached up from the depths and grabbed hold of the port gunnel. The translucent creature pulled itself out of the water with ease and landed in the cockpit.

“That was not very nice!” the creature shouted.

“Damn right it wasn't!” Daske shouted back. He was scared spit-less but, as was often the case when he was scared, he assumed a bellicose attitude. “You almost killed me!”

The Otani and the Sailor

Humans were such cowards! By all that was holy (Laviku), if she wanted to kill the man, she could’ve done it ten times by that point. Instead she picked him to play with her. It should have been an honor. And what did that ugly human do? Call his friends to drive an entire boat through her delicate (not so much) features. If that wasn’t reason enough to get upset, she could hardly imagine one.

“You idiots drove a boat through me!” growling “She tried to kill me!” she’d point to that bitch that operated the boat before, Lucy, was it? “It’s not my own damn fault you humans are afraid of everything” she’d gulp some of the frustration, refraining herself from physically harming them just yet. Her tentacles still stretched out in front of her, choking thin air. If only she could reach one of them and choke just a bit. Not too much though, she didn’t want them dying just yet.

“Ugly man, it’s not my fault your girl here can’t drive a freaking boat! And it’s definitely not my fault you’re scared of the water and sharks and girls… “ She’d finish, frustration building up again.

“Why are you so afraid of everything?” she’d finish, adding a mumbled curse “Petching land-dwellers!” she might’ve been alone, but if any of them made a move on her, she would grab them and drown them for all she cared. Corpses could be toys too. And corpses wouldn’t try to hurt her either!

Only then Lucy realized there was a woman in the water. If "woman" is the word for creatures. In her few years on Mizahar she concluded there were many unusual and inhuman races, including herself, but she never seen such an unstable being. She wasn't sure how she looked like, for her shapes rapidly changed. She seemed to stick with one face, but her anger was a catalyst for morphing speed to get faster.

"What- I- I didn't see you!", she protested at the creature. "And you don't seem hurt either", she said, a bit jealous of ability to survive boat driving right trough you, "so I don't see a problem!" Perhaps a Svefra she accompanied heard of Otani in myths, but young Kelvic had no idea what could she get herself into. Or at least the man. She could always fly away, which doesn't necessarily mean she would.

"Maybe because we can DIE, it doesn't seem to concern you if a boat passes right trough you, but some would be in pieces! You see, some of us have lives they want to live!" They were silly, but those were big words for Lucy, a child of Mizahar who still didn't understand it's purpose in it. Her animal side would never let her think of a thing as dying, but if she was a human she'd wish it long ago. Perhaps, she was just lucky. Up until now, that is.

Daske held up both hands as a sign of surrender. “Okay, okay,” he said. “Let's everybody calm down and stop shoutin' at each other.” His heart was still beating out a rapid rhythm in his ears but he had managed to stop gasping and gagging. Lucy looked as frightened as he was. The translucent shape-shifter, on the other hand, didn't look frightened at all. Just mad. He was pretty sure it could cause them a lot of trouble if it wanted to.

“We don't mean you any harm,” he said to the creature. “Hell, I don't even know what you are. How 'bout we go below and get dried off. Maybe get somethin' to eat.” Food always struck him as a good fallback plan for pretty much any situation. He headed for the companion way hatch. “I'm Daske Baggywrinkle, by the way. This here's my boat. An' that's Lucy.” He pointed at her. “She's my … uh … sailing partner.” With that he would disappear below deck, assuming the two women would follow.

Pffft!

Who were they to tell her what to do?! She should just drown the lot of them! But then again they did have food, and she really was hungry…
No! She mustn’t be that weak, on the other hand maybe they’d let her sail the boat too. Maybe she could even flip them over? Yeah, that would be fun.

Stretching out her tentacles to the annoying female she was left on deck with, she would try and envelop them around her as firm as possible. Should this work, she’d nudge her head to Daske’s ‘sailing’ partner.

“You go first, and I’ll choke both of you if you try to dry me off!” then she’d add in case nothing would move “Hurry up now, I’m hungry!” hopefully these leg people would listen to her.

OOCSorry for the delay guys.. I didn't have Internet back there.. Now I'm fully back at posting.

When Daske interrupted the one-sided yelling contest, she just pouted, crossing her hands. To any normal person shape-shifting monster would be terrifying, but Lucy didn't notice it's shark-shape and she didn't consider it a thread. Yet, she unwillingly agreed with Svefra's peaceful ways, while her anger was lowering.

She tried to follow, but she felt something on her skin. She automatically tried to run away, but it enveloped around her too quickly. She was still struggling to escape when the thing spoke. A dark, awful feeling enveloped around the Kelvic along with Otani's testicles. She was bound. Bound, unable to fly away, bound not to earth at least, but to water. She would morph any other time, but this creature seemed powerful enough to catch her. Now she started to get afraid. And having no better solution, she obeyed, getting downstairs.

The Otani and the Sailor

Daske sorted though their food supply and came up with some dried beans, salt pork, onions, and dried tomatoes. He dumped them in an iron pot, added some water and set it on the stove to heat up. Once it reached a boil, he would turn down the stove to bring it to a simmer and add some salt and cumin. In the end he would have a pasty mix and he knew from experience would at least be edible. While he waited for it to heat up, he stripped off his wet clothes and put on dry clothes.

He stared at the translucent creature. It clearly wasn't human. Or any other species he knew about. Not that he knew about many species. Lucy was only the second Kelvic he had seen. It seemed to be some kind of shape shifter, like Lucy, except it didn't appear to have any particular static form. He was still afraid of it, but he was also fascinated by it.

“What are you anyway?” he asked.
