Fall 3rd, 512 AV; Early morning; Whitevine Healing Center "When was the last time you had your regular bleeding?" A quiet pause. "Nearly a season ago." "I see. Have you been having sleeping problems?" "Yes. I am up at night and sleep restlessly. When I do manage to pass out, I toss and turn." The soft sound of charcoal caressing paper filled the room. "On a scale one to ten, ten being the most, how much stress have you been under lately?" "...Too much." "On a scale, please." "…Eight or nine." "Are you married? If so, how long you been with your significant other?" "Two seasons on the seventh." "Have you been with anyone other than your husband?" "No." "Have you noticed anything strange in your lower parts?" "...Such as?" An uncomfortable shift on the cold table. "Itching, dryness, strange colored discharge. The like." An awkward silence. "It has seemed.. Um, dry. Yes, dry, down there. When my husband and I get intimate.. It can be painful sometimes. As if my body is not, um, reacting as it should." More words were written down. "How young were you when you first started bleeding?" "About fourteen years." "Have you been having mood swings of any sort?" "Not that I have noticed."

"Are you interested in having offspring?" "Yes. My husband and I would like to have kids. We have been trying for nearly two seasons, but with little success. I sought out a doctor for advice to make sure nothing was wrong, but the doctor was uncertain of diagnosing me." "I see. I will do my best." "Thank you." "If you will lay back, spread your legs, and lock your feet here, please." The patient did as she was told, if a bit uneasily. Hands were fisted. "Is this fine?" "Relax. Breathe deeply. It will help make this easier, for both of us." A jerky nod. "How long will this take?" "I cannot say." "…" "We will begin the inspection now." Without further warning, the doctor began to explore. Cold tools probed in places normally warm. The patient stiffened, hissing in both pain and surprise. "I am taking a sample scraping of your ovaries. Once the inspection is over, I will compare your tissues to that of a healthy reproductive system. If they are different, I will explore further." A pause. "I see no sign of your regular bleeding. Or that it should be going on. You also feel extremely dry and your inner skin is almost flaky." A light glowed between her legs, held by a nurse. The doctor peered closer, trying to see inside the space. Suddenly, the air in the room shifted, became more tense. The medical expert took the light, and moved even closer. "Were you raped as a child?" "No." The answer was final. "No penetration of any kind?" "No." "Alright. Does your husband seem too large for you when you are intimate with him?" "….Um. No?" A short nod before eyes heavy with sadness met the patient's. "I will take what I have now and complete some tests. Hopefully it is not as I believe it is. Your inner channel is extremely scarred and I believe it was because of your injury when you were young. Unless I am proven wrong, I truly believe you will never be able to have children, Lixue." Never have children? But… Ly… Their future… And then the world went black. End.
