Time Stamp: Day 2, Fall, 512AV, Noon Location: The Enclave Finding a lone table in the back of the library, Syrin leans back in his chair reading about the local folklore of Wind Reach and the surrounding region. Besides the young man is two books neatly stacked to his side. Both books are about the culture of the Inartan people, but one of the authors is a foreign author and the other one is written by a Inartan author. Turning the page slowly of the book on Inartan folklore, his eyes focus on something interesting, and he sets the book on the table. He reaches down and pulls out of his leather backpack a leather bound journal, a vial of ink, and a quill. He turns the the journal a quarter of the way to a new page. He flips over his book, so it lies flat on the table. He opens the vial of ink and dips his quill in the ink, and he starts to write. Two hours pass and he is still buried in the book of folktales. Occasionally he gets up and consults the map of the region. Holding his journal in his hand, his eyes flash back to his notes and back to map. In a span of five minutes, he has a range of emotion cross his face sad, happy and anger, but he says nothing out loud accept the occasional mumbling in common to himself. Annoyed at the map, he twirls around, closes the journal, and walks back to his table. Once he at the table, he tosses his book on it, so it slides into the other books. Lost in thought, he sits on the edge of the table and starts stroking his chin staring off into the wall. Twirling a stray piece of hair in his hands, he just sits their for ten minutes lost in thought. Syrin stops rubbing his chin, pushes him off the table, and he slumps back into the chair. He frowns as he puts the stopper on his vial of ink, and he picks up the book on Inartan culture written by a Inartan. Turning the pages quickly, he smirks to himself in amusement that the author is definitely showing his bias about his people. It is understandable to say the least, and there is nothing wrong with a little national pride. However, the author starts writing about the superiority of the social structure of his people over the chaos and anarchy of the other social systems around Mizahar. Syrin mood shifts to one of amusement, and he is starting to get truly entertained at authors opinions of the culture. Syrin figures this man must be a politician because there is too much emotional baggage in his writing and not enough facts to back up his claims. However, the author did hold on his audience since Syrin been reading the book for at least a half an hour straight. Laughing quietly to himself the whole time. Closing the book, Syrin puts it in his lap and looks around the library. Syrin looks around the hall and notices that there was a few patrons scattered around the hall. Most of them too involved in their books to take notice of the people around them. His eyes fall upon a beautiful young woman with long crimson hair and milky white skin. He watches her a moment as she seems involved in her task of rearranging the books on the shelves. Figuring, since he going to be in Wind Reach for awhile he might as well meet some of the locals. He grabs the book. He was just reading and walks over to the young woman. He waits until she is finished her task, and he says politely in Nari with a smile on his face, “I hope I am not bothering you, but my name is Syrin, and I was curious if I can ask you a question about Inartan culture.” He holds up the book. He was reading and says with general curiosity in his voice, “Bear in mind, I have just arrived in Wind Reach two days ago, so my knowledge of your culture is well limited to what I can read in books at the moment, so I figure I should ask you.” He smirks in her direction and asks her the question, “Why do men of your society not wear shirts? I guess I am curious about this question because I am going to be staying in the city awhile, and I was wondering if I should embrace the social norm. I know this might be a odd question, but do the men of your society ever complain about being cold?” Honestly he was curious about this question ever since he arrived in Wind Reach a day ago. He hopes she doesn't take offense by his question because he wasn't trying to insult her culture. He is truly interested in finding out the social norms of the Inartan culture. |
