1st of Fall, 512
Fall was already in the air and Sodrel needed work to keep her busy. She could also use some extra mizas to tuck away. Her savings was dwindling. If she was ever going to have her own stables, she needed to start taking better care of her finances, but she hated handling money.
She got out of bed and before she ate, she made sure Amaya had food and water because she wasn’t sure how long she’d be away from Frostfawn Hold. She had no idea how long it would take for her to find a job.
Her coat and gloves were slung over the end of her bed. She picked them up, put them off and headed out into the crisp day. The sun was out and it was cold but there was no fresh snow falling. That made traveling to White Elk Stables a little easier. As she walked she tried to make a mental list of all the things she was going to need to do this season if she wanted to get her stables anytime soon. She knew things were going to be hectic.
She was too nervous to be able to concentrate on her list and kept losing track of what she was thinking. Eventually, her sweaty palms forced her to give up and she had no choice but to focus on the task that was coming.
Sodrel dreaded the interview. She was always nervous doing that kind of thing, wishing there was another way to get a job, but she didn't know of one.
Before she knew it, she was standing in front of White Elk Stables. It materialized out of the snow. Despite the cold all around her, her palms couldn’t have been sweatier. She twisted her hands together and took a deep breath. Relax. Don't be so petching nervous.
She gulped and walked through the door into the stable. The heat inside of her coat was already intense because of her nerves, but the heat inside the building actually made Sodrel sweat. She threw her hood back and opened up a couple of buttons on her coat as she scanned the interior of the building for the dark head of Lusina Frostfwan.
One of the girls at Frostfawn told her Lusina was looking for grooms for the stables and she was hoping there were still a spot open.
“Hello?” she called out, not seeing anyone right away. |

Lusina looked like she'd been hard at work with all the hay that was in her hair and she smelled like she'd been in the stables. Sodrel couldn't help the smile that spread across her face; it chased away her nerves. Now that she was face-to-face with Lusina, she realized the woman was hardly intimidating. In fact, she looked a lot like her and she was even covered in dirt. She got the feeling that they were both the same breed of hard worker. They would get along well if they worked together. What a relief. She sucked in the first real breath she'd take since she walked inside.
She wiped the sweat off her hand onto her thigh and took a step toward what she hoped would be her future boss. The smile held steady on her lips as she held out her hand to her.“Hi, Lusina. My name is Sodrel and I’m looking for work. I heard you might have a grooming job free in the stables and I’d like to be considered for it.”
She swallowed the rest of the dry lump in her throat and waited for Lusina's response, while she hoped the job was still free.

Sodrel listened to everything the job would entail. It sounded to be exactly what she was looking for; she loved taking care of the animals. When Lusina took her hand, it felt like the deal was already done.
"It's perfect for me. Thank you so much. I can't wait to get started!" She couldn't believe her luck. The interview couldn't have been more painless. Now she was ready to get to work and start earning some of those mizas. |
