"It isn't exactly a tattoo but you got the mark part right. It's a connection between me and a goddess. She even knows I'm in your Infirmary room. If there's another Rak'keli marked being in this Infirmary I'll know." Iris stopped talking. She knew Tock wanted a drink, the woodcarver asked for it earlier. Normally, Iris wouldn't give a patient a drink but Tock had a free pass.

The Konti's slim pale hand slid back into her bag and she pulled out a bottle of fine wine she bad brought from the World's End Grotto. Iris had been hiding it for the entire day and thought it was funny that Tock had even mentioned anything about drinking.

"You know Tock, I really don't want you to think I'm all work and no fun. I was saving this to rid myself of this stress but oh well." Iris reached her left hand out hovering the bottle over Tock's body for her to take. The two friends were simply going to enjoy a nice drink with the conversation. Iris stood up and walked over to the Infirmary room door grabbing it with both her hands and closing it shut. Iris thought she could lose her job for giving drinks out.

The healer made her way back to Tock, this time sitting directly to Tock's right on Tock's bed. "You're not a dog, Tock. I won't give you ale--it's for the people who can't do any better, that wine cost me ten gold mizas. It's the best stuff. For a good friend." Iris leaned her head back on the pillow looking up straight.

"How do you survive all of this Tock? I've seen more illness and crime here than I ever have in Mura. Sometimes I want to go home but...." Mura was home to the best healers in Mizahar, that was one of many reasons Zeltiva had more ill people than the Konti Isle. "Because of the way things work I have to try and help as best as a can. It's what Rak'keli wants."

Iris was opening up more, she didn't really tell these things to anyone. The Konti rarely even spoke to people in the town unless it's work wise. This was the first drink she's shared with anyone since leaving her home land Mura.

Tock listened to the Konti's explanation with mild interest. Some of it went over her head, but the part about being able to sense another marked person nearby sounded kinds cool. Though it made her worry about privacy... what if someone with a mark was doing something personal, and didn't want to be found?

But then her eyes widened when Iris pulled out the unexpected bottle of wine. "Oy, 'ere we go, Sook!" she declared, rubbing her hands together eagerly. She set her drawings aside for now, quite intent on getting good and stonkered to numb the pain of her wound. "Wine, too?" she asked. Wine was a rare luxury in Zeltiva, since it had to be imported from overseas. Thus it was usually only available to those who had money to throw around. Tock was just a working girl without that kind of money, so it was rare for her to ever get a taste of wine.

She opened the bottle and took a long swig from it, then handed it to her friend. "Zeltiva's great," she said when Iris spoke of the troubles here. "Sure, Mura were nice what when I lived 'ere, but she's too dang quiet." After Iris had another drink, Tock took took the bottle back for another long swig for herself, then passed it back to her friend.

She let out a soft belch and continued, "Crime'n'stuff ain't so bad 'ere. When I were growin' up in Sunberth, 'ad ta always been lookin' over yer shoulder fer thieves, gangs, an' rapists. Weren't no law NOWHERE..." Of course, she had completely forgotten that she had lied to her friend a few weeks ago, and claimed to be from Syliras. But whatever.

The slim pale arm of Iris Timandre forced it's way right to take hold of the wine bottle being passed over to her. Iris' hand was shakey, the Konti was tired. She hasn't been getting alot of sleep lately. Iris told herself she should start sleeping more but for some reason she just couldn't. The Timandre placed the bottle in her mouth and took a gulp of the wine and held it back out to let Tock take it. Iris felt a warm sensation in her stomach as a result of taking in the wine.

The Konti went off topic "You know, I really wouldn't mind getting a tattoo one day. Maybe something that reminds me of home. Or a heart for health on my back or something." Iris sat up and faced the woodcarver.

Tock said something about Mura being too quiet. Iris stood to disagree. Mostly biased because the Konti Isle was her home land and she would take it's side no matter what. Maybe Tock just wasn't interested in what Mura had to offer. Tock possibly loved the violent nature of Zeltiva, well, it was violent to the peaceful Konti.

Iris took the bottle again and held it in both of her hands, she took two gulps from the bottle and handed it off. Something caught the Konti's attention. She said she had grown up in Sunberth. This confused Iris, the Konti thought Tock was from Syliras. The healer raised a blonde eyebrow, ignored parts of Tock's last sentence and asked "Wait....you grew up in Sunberth? I thought you had said Syliras."

It didn't take Iris long to figure out she'd been lied to by Tock in past conversation. During Iris' entire time in Zeltiva she couldn't remember telling a single lie about her past or where she came from. She didn't see why anyone would have to.

"Aye, a tattoo might'n be nice," Tock said with a swig of the wine. "'Ey got some tattoo parlor downtown, I think. Maybe we can 'ead down 'ere sometime." Not until Tock was able to walk, of course. Getting a tattoo when she was badly injured seemed like a bad idea.

She arched an eyebrow when Iris focused on her forgotten lie. With a shrug she simply said, "I DID live in Syliras, Sook. Fer like two years. But were Mura 'fore 'at, an' Sunberth 'fore 'at..." She couldn't even remember lying about it weeks ago. She had just been in a bad mood that day and hadn't felt like revealing her origins to a total stranger. In the intervening weeks, Iris had earned a degree of trust. Not enough to, say, learn Tock's real name. But enough that she just didn't give a petch about lying.

She didn't consider it much of an issue. Her past was her own business, and she'd bloody well share it only if and when she was bloody ready.

The Konti shrugged, at this point it didn't matter where Tock originally came from. Iris still had to finish telling Tock why she should accept religion into her life. Iris folded her arms and looked Tock up and down. Something the human did have going for her was boldness. But sometimes boldness got people hurt and as Iris saw it might have happened in Tock's case.

"I wonder how bad getting a tattoo would hurt. I'm sure you'd be able to take it after going through...well...that..." Iris shifted her eyes down to Tock's stomach.

It was a mystery to the Konti how Tock was still able to go through everyday life. Handling situations like this one, had Iris got stabbed and lived she'd have went back to where she came from, Mura, where she know she'd be safe. Not stuck around the city that caused her the trouble in the first place.

Iris's right hand slowly made it's way up to Tock's hair. The Konti never felt human hair before, she wondered if all hair was exactly the same. The healer tried to rub Tock's hair softly just to see what it was like. In no way did Iris mean to be disrecpectful.

"Sorry I'm just curious about humans. Yeah, I think it would be a totally good idea if you prayed to Rak'keli everynight. Talk to her y'know. Get in her favor." Iris never got to the point with a topic, she really wanted to ask Tock to help her build her shrine. That would sure held twards getting the woodcarver some of Rak'keli's favor. Introducing the Goddess to Zeltiva on a grander scale.

Tock looked down at her stomach and shrugged. "Aye," she said, "tattoo ain't nothin'. I seen sailors git 'em, 'round 'ere an' 'ere what when I were travelin'. Can't 'urt too bad." Tock certainly had a high tolerance for pain, considering all the injuries she'd had to suffer through.

The troubles around Zeltiva were nothing compared to those she'd dealt with in Sunberth. Hell, HERE she only got stabbed when she went out looking for trouble; the very FIRST time she'd been stabbed, in Sunberth, she'd only been walking down the street to buy her Da's booze.

She took another long drink of the wine, and glanced at Iris when the Konti started rubbing her hair. It felt nice, but she wasn't quite sure if the Konti was flirting with her, or what. Though if she was flirting, telling Tock to start praying was the wrong way to go about it. "Why's I wanna pray fer?" she asked. "Rak'keli leaves me alone, an' I leaves 'er alone. S'better 'at way..."

She was willing to humor Iris and learn a bit about Healy-bitch. But praying was another story entirely.

She just didn't see how it would benefit HER to get in any Goddess's favor. She didn't like wasting her time on fruitless endeavors. Unless something had a solid, tangible benefit, such as the completed project after a long day's work, then she just didn't see the point.

Iris' bright blue eyes shifted downward to the bed. Tock thought Rak'keli left her alone, for a second Iris wanted to shove a book of Rak'keli prayers in Tock's face and try to force her to read. It would be too violent. And Tock was physically strong, really strong. It just wasn't the case. Maybe if Tock actually lived in Mura for a few years her attitute would change a whole lot.

The Konti's pale white fingers trailed through Tock's hair. The hair told the tale, Tock was a completely different species. "I never really touched human hair before. It's amazing how different you all are from each other. Skin tone ranging from pale to a tan all of that."

Iris pulled her hand away from Tock's head again. "Why's you wanna pray fer? Iris slightly mocked Tock. She thought the woodcarver could take a joke or two. "Because Sook, you 'atta tank Rak'keli for savin' ya leg, hm?" It was the truth, Tock has been looked after by Rak'keli. Iris made it clear time and time again that she had powers through a bond with the healing Goddess.

"I'm absolutely positive that you'd start feeling better spiritually if you prayed every morning and night. Maybe you'd even stop getting into these near death situations. Because if I hear you died one day I'll kill you." Iris joked again, still serious. Tock meant alot to Iris, she was basically Iris' best friend in Zeltiva. No one in the town knew more about Iris than Tock did.

The wine was starting to give Tock a nice buzz. Iris was still rubbing her hair, which was a bit... distracting. Normally nobody paid any attention to her hair, other than to point out the color. Which tended to piss her off, since she didn't like being treated differently just because she had an uncommon hair color.

But the Konti called her hair 'amazing,' and that gave her a very different sensation. She blushed at the compliment, a slight giggle escaping her lips. Which was probably just because of the wine.

Then Iris started mimicking her accent, and Tock gave her a light shove on the shoulder. "Oy, ya makin' fun o' me, aye Sook?" she asked, her face turning red. But she wasn't offended... which was unusual, since that sort of thing normally set off her temper. It definitely had to be the wine.

She sighed and slipped an arm around the other girl's shoulders, leaning against her until her head rested against Iris's, her red hair mingling with the pale blonde. The Konti had a point, loathe as Tock was to admit it. "Fine," she said, "I's thank Rak'keli what fer my 'eals, aye?" She held up the wine in a toast to the Healy Bitch and said out loud, "Thank ya!" She took another long drink, hoping that would satisfy Iris. As far as she was concerned, her and Rak'keli were even now. She'd been healed, and she'd said 'thank you' for it. There was no reason to pray 'every morning and night' when the healing had been a one-time thing. If she got injured again and needed another healing, she'd offer a bit of thanks then as well.

The hand in her hair was still distracting her, and she slipped her own hand into Iris's hair, noticing how much silkier it seemed to be. She wondered if all Konti had hair that felt like that. Tock had met plenty of Konti before, but she had never been this physically close to one, practically snuggled up together on the bed. She looked into the Konti's eyes and idly wondered what the girl was thinking about.

Iris' attempts to interrogate Tock is so cute xD The leadership was for being a general bossy/caring person. Bedside manners are important xD

By the way, only kelp beer is usually available in Zeltiva. That means that stuff like wine is hard to get, and generally only available either through the black market or through special connections. This is not because of its controlled status, but more of its rare status due to difficulty of import. This also means that the price list's price of 10gm for a bottle of fine wine is not reflective of its local price in Zeltiva. I'll let it slide for now, but do take note that in order to secure luxury goods like fine wine, you have to work a little IC to get it (both gold-wise, and in terms of securing the connections required to get it). You won't find a shop blatantly selling it just like that, it's most likely an under-the-table thing.
