[WiSPer] The First Icechunk Has Been Cast

Communication had many barriers. Language was certainly one of them, and Briar hated it.

While it helped him maintain the image of clueless tourist, he didn't want to feel like one. He didn't mind people believing that since it could only work in his favour while he was gathering money on the streets, though he probably wouldn't complain if he could at least understand all what people were saying. These last few days had been spent hunting around the city to create visuals in his mind of the various locations of this city, inspired by a certain meeting a couple of days ago. He'd brought his map with him and a generous amount of clothes so he could survive the long day of wandering, arriving finally in front of the Crystal Hall. It was... a very impressive structure, to say the least. Suffice to say, the man felt dwarfed before the massive building and the sheer magnificance of a kind he'd never seen before. Avanthal was, in so many ways, different from his former home. Sunberth had been in a poor shape and nothing particularly impressive had been constructed there for as long as he could remember. The city was practically falling apart as far as he was concerned, whereas Avanthal stood in all its glory and basked in Syna's light. Sometimes, Briar told himself this city had been stolen out of some young child's favourite fairytale.

That might be far from the truth, however. While it was absolutely stunning on the outside, certain odd happenings of late had started to cut through his illusion of a peaceful fairyland of ice. Shouting from up ahead caught his attention and he apprehensively approached the stairs leading up to the Hall. A crowd had started to gather and this one woman was shouting at a man on the stairs who was... appearing to be protecting a young kid. Whatever the woman was saying to him, he couldn't really tell. He could make out that it was about a mage, or magic. More than that, he couldn't really know for sure. It was all jumbled up gibberish to him, his limited knowledge in Vani making itself painfully obvious to him. ... He really needed to work on his proficiency in the language. This was no good at all.

Briar blinked and froze when he saw that the woman prepared to hurl a chunk of sharp ice at the man on the stairs. ... The man was already bleeding from his temple and the observant Briar could spot a large icechunk resting near him on the steps. Putting two and two together, Briar could only assume the woman had already thrown once before she was, now, stopped. He felt a tinge of relief; whatever this was, it didn't look good. The woman passed hateful glares to the wounded man and it seemed her discontent was shared by a greater part of the gathered crowd. ... Briar only had to look in most of their eyes to know that something was definitely wrong, colours shifting back and forth. These Vantha...

Eventually, the Icewatch appeared to scatter the crowd and Briar was not one to protest when they were ushered to leave the scene. He just unfolded his map while walking, scouting out his next location of interest before wandering on through the streets of Avanthal. So much to see, so little time!

[WiSPer] The First Icechunk Has Been Cast

Coren had just been passing through the streets, going towards the springs and things for his daily lesson in carpentry when he passed the crystal hall and took notice of the crowd that was gatherin. Usually he would have opted to just continue on his way, he had a lesson to catch, but the screeching of an old woman condemning mages changed his mind, his eyes turned a heartless graphite gray as he felt fury well up from within. He took a deep breath and reached inside him for his djed and slowly extruded it from his body, letting the gaseous djed wrap around his torso, abdomen and head, weaving it together tightly as quick as he could, ignoringthe uneven spots it, he needed this to get done as fast as he could to be able to intervene. As soon as the weaving was done he tasked the shield to keep blunt force out and began making his way through the crowd, rudely shoving anybody who was in his way out of his way to make his way towards the front of the crowd.

Unfortunately, the crowd was thick and not everybody allowed himself to get shoved out of the way, so he ended up stranded somewhere in the middle of the crowd, surrounded by a bunch of simpletons who hadn't enjoyed his rough treatment of them. Coren didn't give them a second glance, his eyes where trained on the visage of josaan lying on the ground, bleeding from a headwound, while protectively holding his arm over a younger boy. At the same time an older woman was screaming at him the only reason she hadn't thrown the chunk of icestone she was holding at him was because another man was holding her back. When she called those fascinationg structures monsterous coren couldn't help himself, she had assaulted an innocent bystander and now she called not only those wonderous animated things but wanted to run every single mage out of town.
“Get your head out of your ass you moronic hag! Avanthal is our home too and we aren't getting run out of it by some idiots who are too busy pissing their pants to properly think!” Coren yelled as loud as he could, hoping that the woman had heard him. Somebody had heard him alright, seeing as suddenly a chunck of icestone was thrown at his head, his shield flashed up for half a second and the block of icestone harmlessly bounced of it and landed on the ground. Coren's gaze slowly made its way over the crowd directly around him, the people tried to back away from the angry mage who had just shrugged of being hit in the head thanks to his freaky magic.

Before coren could get going and possibly hurt one of the morons around him to make space for him to help his fellow mage the icewatch arived and began to disperse the crowd. Coren however didn't back away and walked towards the fallen mage.

Torsten had been heading to the commons when the snowstorm kicked up and he had to take refuge inside the Crystal Hall. He had seen the teacher and apprentice, preferring not to get too involved, but rather find someone else to talk to. that is, until the ice went flying and struck Josaan in the head. Torsten moved closer to find out what was happening. Torsten had frowned at the violence, but nodded his head at the confrontation about the constructs. His eyes flashed a sympathetic blue after noticing how Josaan was protecting a student.

after someone yelled back at the old woman, Torsten had noticed the person next to him sizing up a piece of ice.He grasped the person's wrist to stop their wreckless action"i may dislike mages, but violence is wrong. don't get lost in the moment," requested Torsten. trying to diffuse some of the anger. He may have disliked mages, but he hated unnecessary violence, finding it barbaric. The last thing avanthal needs in an internal war. as if the elements weren't trying hard enough, he mused idly as the Icewatch broke up the spontaneous mob. he was worried about the recent changes he had seen in the area, especially the rising tension over mages.
