Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

Karvelic

Timestamp: Summer 14th 512 AV

Karvelic stepped through the door, shaking the rain from his cloak. The droplets of water wicked off of his garments and fell into pre-existing puddles on the floor. The room was dim, lit by lanterns all around, but the people were lively, blowing off steam from the stressful day. It was a relaxing respite from the dreary, wet, and crowded streets. The Akalak was shorter than most of his kind, and his presence was dark; so dark and shadowed that most people didn’t even notice his entrance.

“Watch your step, Sir. That floor is very slippery,” the bartender called from across the room.

Karvelic turned and nodded in understanding. He paused at the front door for just a moment, taking in the layout of the room, gathering awareness of his surroundings. It was getting late, and many of the citizens were beginning to filter in from the streets. Most tables were occupied, filled with friends conversing about happenings around town and passing rumours, but there were a few lone drinkers. Karvelic spotted an empty table in the corner of the room with its back to a wall, just the way he liked it.

Karvelic glided across the room, dark and graceful, keeping his eyes locked on the empty chair. He passed through the maze of chairs seamlessly, and no one noticed his passing. Once at his destination, he settled in, leaving the hood of his cloak draped over his head. He scanned the room once more, and lifted his hand requesting an ale.

The bartender was quick, and he had his drink within minutes. Karvelic spent the next few minutes sipping his ale, watching the comings and goings of the patrons, trying to see if he recognized anyone. as he suspected, no one was familiar. He hadn’t been here for over a century, and most of the bar patrons weren’t Akalaks. he wasn’t looking for anyone in particular, in fact, Karvelic was in a rare mood tonight. Usually quiet and independent, he decided that it was best to get to know a few of the residents in the town. He wasn’t exactly being friendly, but he needed to know who was who, who had power, and who not to cross. And despite his usual desire to avoid the help of others, he knew that he was going to need some friends.

He needed to start off on the right foot if he was going to come back to Riverfall. He was tired of living the same life, avoiding friendship, and taking everything for himself, but his “dark brother” was fighting to keep him. He took a large gulp to fight away the thoughts and relax.

So, Karvelic sat and waited, peering over the rim of his mug, hoping someone would stop by soon.

Dex was in rare form. Well, ok, not that rare. Actually it was pretty common. He was in a good mood. But this time, he was actually going about as a human getting into things. More and more often as he was in the city, he had to become human to get to certain things. That, and as a human, he wasn't quite as likely as to be chased down with a knife. There were obvious exceptions, generally occurring when a big blue akalak happened to catch him with something that previously was in akalaks pocket.

Not that he did that often. But he did find himself in that position more then once. More often then not, something wandered into his hands, especially shiny things. But that wasn't what brought him to this building. No, what brought him to this building was ... he didn't remember. Maybe it was a whim. Now if he found out what a whim was, maybe he would know why he was here.

Well, that just left what to do now. He walked into the building, and promptly sat down on a stool. He glanced left for a moment, noticed a shorter than usual akalak drinking something. Motioning the bartender over to give him one of whatever the akalak had. He had no idea what it was, or even what they were serving. All he knew was that he was going to do something.

Karvelic

It wasn't long before Karvelic noticed someone eyeing him from the bar. He noticed him when he walked in, as he does with eveyone, but it wasn't until now that he saw the young boy focused on him. Karvelic took a brief pause, and another gulp, placing the mug gently on the table. The boy gazed at him, and turned to order a drink. he seemed twitchy, quick, and very curious as he glanced around the room. he harbored a look of bewilderment, as if he was constantly discovering new things everywhere he turned.

The bartender placed the drink in front of the boy with a questioning look. He hardly had fuzz on his face, and he seemed much less likely to be able to hold his alcohol. The boy picked up the mug, and stared down into the contents of the cup. His eyes grew wide as he shoved his nose in the cup to smell, and he took a cautious sip. A grin spread across his face, and the boy gulped the ale down quicker than most seasoned veterans could dream. Karvelic let out an audible chuckle, and the boy whipped around, hyper-aware of his surroundings. He saw Karvelic laughing and quickly turned away, back to his mug.

Having served as a thief and assassin for many years, Karvelic recognized some of the tell tale traits of stealth and dexterity. Karvelic was interested in meeting this boy. He wondered if he could be of use to him while he remained in Riverfalls. Karvelic instantly thought of a quick little test, something that would make this boys true intentions evident. Out of Karvelic's pocket came a shiny ring. he placed the ring on the table in clear view of the boy and turned his head...waiting.

Four seconds. That was how long it took for Dex to see the shiny ring, and then for it to disappear off the table and into his pockets. It would have been two, except that Dex missed snatching it on his first grab. His drink apparently had something very very interesting in it, that made the room sway ever so slightly. Never having had the room sway on him, and curious as to what all happened, he ordered a second drink. The bartender just looked at him for a moment, before turning around and bringing the second mug to Dex.

Dex took it in his hands carefully, and looked deep into it. He didn't see anything in it except for the brown stuff, which had a rather strong odor. Trying to figure this out, he stuck his finger in the liquid and pulled it back out. Now his finger was brown, but it wasn't waving any more then everything else, just a slight haze. Confused, he took the jug and drank it quick. When he set the mug down, a little harder then he meant, he saw the bartender looking a little smug about something. Dex thought it was odd that the bartender could look so smug while he moved all over the place. Up, left, right, down, turning around, rotating with the floor. Thinking that this brown substance was loads of fun, he promptly stood up, swaying ever so greatly on the moving floor, and stumbled around tables.

All in all, he wasn't terribly hurt. However, he did manage to break a stool, upend a table, make a dent in the wall with his head. It was a feat of remarkable flexibility, along with a large amount of drunken swaying. When he stood up, he wobbled forward, running into a table. His upper body fell forward, knocking the table on it's side and flipping several stools around it. From there, he tried to stand up, getting about half way before landing sideways on one of the stools that had ended up on it's side. With Dex's luck of course, it was one of the well used stools, and therefore in worse condition then the others. That snapped under his weight on the side of the legs, making a large shattering sound.

Dex started laughing. And he could not, even if he wanted too, stop it. It was a laugh crossed with a fit of giggles, ending up sounding like he had high pitched, rapid hiccups. He rolled over onto his front, and pulled himself up to his feet, this time succeeding. However, the room decided to sway up on one side, where he stumbled and shuffled sideways and where his head ran into the wall, making a dent the size of a small rock in it, but not actually cracking the wood. Then the room swayed all the way to the other side, where Dex then landed and slid down the bar backwards, ending up in the lap of the short akalak he had been sitting next too. He glanced up into the face of the akalak.

"What's your name?"

Karvelic

Karvelic turned his head back to look at the ring, and it was gone. He smirked at the situation, and admired the quickness of the boy. He was quicker than he had expected, but knew that it wouldn't have taken the boy long to grab the ring anyhow. Karvelic had felt a swift breeze blow across his face moments before he turned to look back at the ring. It had taken all of about four seconds for the object to disappear. This boy could be a great friend and asset.

A glance over at the bar found the boy ordering another drink, and within seconds he had gulped the it down and began swaying in his seat. It was apparent now that he couldn't hold his alcohol as he stood up and stumbled across the room, breaking bar stools and knocking over tables. He was slowly and recklessly making his way over to Karvelic. Before Karvelic had the chance to react, the boy had fallen backwards directly into his lap.

"What's your name", the boy giggled.

Karvelic smelled the pervasive stench of ale on the boys breath and almost choked. He lifted him from his lap like a small sack of potatoes and placed him in the seat beside him. What the boy hadn't seen were the tavern patrons that he had ticked off on his destructive path towards his table. Many of the people were cursing the boy and making their way towards the table with threats. Karvelic quickly stood and glared at them, stepping between them and the boy. He may have been short for an Akalak, but 6' 1" of full muscle was nothing to scoff about. The group of men looked up at karvelic, began to tremble, and quickly rerouted as Karvelic began to reach for his hidden lakan.

Once the men had sat down, Karvelic lowered himself to his seat and looked at the boy. He was smiling up at him with glazed look over his eyes, his head swaying back and forth as he searched for his balance.

"Hello, I'm Karvelic. This is quite a mess you've made here. Perhaps you should keep the drink count to two tonight." Karvelic smiled as he said this, finding some admiration for the boy.

He immediately thought about how awkwardly this boy must fit into the Riverfall society, but found comfort in his youth. Karvelic would give so much to have his youth back, to run through the town doing as he wished, and following no ones rules. He hoped that this boy would become a new friend, and would allow some adventures to come about.

"What's your name?"

OOCHey, sorry about being so much longer then usual. Had a rough few weeks. I'm also going to be totally off the grid the week of the 30th, so just a fair warning there.

Dex found himself lifted up by a pair of arms on a big blue .... short blue man. The blue guy was even shorter then he was, which was odd. Generally, all these blue boys were at least his height, if not a little taller at minimum. But he apparently made up for it by large rippling muscles across his arms and legs and chest and ... well just across everything.

Now he found himself sitting on a stool, which promptly swished in the room like a rocking horse in Dex's mind. In reality, Dex was the one swaying on the stool. The guy was sitting there talking gently to him. He said his name was karvelic. What a funny name. Dex sprouted into a tiny fit of giggles, for no real reason since he wasn't an expert on names in the first place.

"My name ... hic ... is ... is De-hic-x, and L-hic-ewis, and John, and lots of other hic..."

Dex wasn't exactly at his best, especially when fighting between hiccups and giggling fits.
