Leda Oceanripple

"Cross my palm with silver... the silvery blue of the Suvan Sea."

Image

Name: Leda Oceanripple
Race: Half Svefra, half Benshira.
Age: 20 - Female
Birthday: 12th Summer 494 AV

Character Personality: :
Leda is whimsical, theatrical and flamboyant but quite conflicted. Whereas at times she seems kind and naïve, there is a devilish side to her that believes wholly in her own sense of self-importance and is sarcastic, cynical and harsh when it is her interest to be, with a witty sense of humour. The truth is that she has suffered greatly from the loss of her pod and family and settling down to a life in Syliras was hard. She was trying to start anew, but things happened and she couldn't escape her past. After close to a year of neglect and alcoholism, she wound up in Sunberth, the unbalanced side of her which had already been lurking coming out even more strongly.
Leda is very romantic and passionate, to the point of something resembling obsession, and may come across as overemotional and vulnerable. She is creative and artistic with a great love of art and music - there is a spiritual side to her too, which thrives with the wind and the stars, yet she states she is not religious. In the end, she is just very scared of being alone and yearns for love and to be recognised as a valuable member of society.

Appearance: :
Of an average height and slight with a tiny waist and a light, pretty figure, which she shows off in the clothes she usually wears (Sometimes more than she knows because a couple of her blouses are more than a little see-through from being washed so many times) She has dark hair, which never really settles into one state. Though it can be curly and wavy, it is usually poker straight. For some people, her greatest feature is her pair of large bright laughing blue eyes with many different tones flecked with gold and framed by long dark lashes. She has relatively high cheekbones, dark eyebrows and a defined jaw with sharp profile crowned by an aquiline nose. She has a long neck and large hands with long fingers, making her appear graceful, even if by nature, she is more than a little clumsy.

Character History: :
Leda was born on board a ship and raised a Svefra, in spite of the fact that her father was a (half Vantha) Benshira Nomad. She was brought up in an environment dominated by strong females and was very much spoilt by her less intriguing, less vivacious and more typically Svefran elder sisters: Bianca, Perdita, Diana, Emelia and Sibella, but otherwise a rather usual Svefra upbringing. She had known her fair share of hardship. Once when the ship got way-laid and was unable to find a port, she went without any substantial food for close to a week, but even worse was when, after their ship was attacked by pirates, a couple of them tried to force themselves on her... not the first time that such a thing had happened, but a great deal more frightening than both the previous occasions which, in spite of all, she had not found wholly unpleasant.

Her blossoming sexuality burgeoned between the ages of fourteen and fifteen, relatively late for a Svefra. Although she remained technically chaste, she was able to freely admit that she enjoyed kissing, once even commenting to her sister, Diana, that "My trouble is that, it doesn't matter who he is or how long I've known him, as soon as a young, healthy man tries to hold me in his arms, I cannot help but let him. I enjoy the feeling of being desired and controlled by someone stronger than myself a great deal too much. It's a wonder I haven't been any further with anyone than I have... and it's only because I do not feel ready for child-bearing."

Even in spite of this, Leda's life was happy and carefree. That is until she experienced real tragedy. The week she was to turn 17 years of age, a tragic storm led to a ship wreck and ripped apart her pod. She assumed that it killed all the members of her family (as far as she can tell) for though she looked for them for close to a season along the shoreline against which she had been cast, she never found any of them. Emerging from the shipwreck with nothing more than a scar across one of her knees, she travelled to Syliras and built a new life there. She made the journey with a fortune teller by the name of Kalaha, an old white-haired human woman, who taught Leda her craft. Unfortunately, she died soon after they arrived in Syliras, and Leda was left alone with no friends or acquaintances in this new city.

Leda is not as fond of the sea as most Svefra, though she feels a natural affinity with it. She is a chameleon in terms of her environment.

One thing about her past which intrigues her wholly, is an old rhyme which her eldest sister, Emelia, used to tell her when Leda was a child. However, she only remembers the beginning line, which is:

"There is a city far away, where wealthy and laughter are held at bay."

Leda also has for aim to be definitely sure of the fates of her half-sisters and other extended family. Until then, she is just assuming.

At some point, Leda fell into Alcoholism and suffered a severe blackout. That is, a year of her life which she can't remember - who she has been with, what she did, where she went - until the day she arrived in Sunberth.

Relationships and Other

Image

"True friends stab you in the front."

Lovers and Romantic Interests
In Working Progress

Family
Parents:

Image Father - Caiphel, son of Basalom: Leda's Father is a Benshira Nomad, and unrelated to any of her half-sisters. He was of the amorous sort and had a brief relationship with Leda's birth. A short and passionate relationship which resulted in her creation. He was twenty-six at the time and would now be forty-four, probably with a wholly different family of his own. According to her mother, Caiphel was of a tempestuous and passionate nature, quick-witted and with a great sense of humour - if a little cynical and sarcastic.
Image Mother - Helena: Leda was very attached to her mother, who was considered a very sophisticated, elegant woman - devoted to her daughters and a great sailor. Helena was a little unstable, a trait Leda has partially inherited from her, and this led to bouts of what others would call madness, but she preferred to call eccentricity. Leda believes her mother to have died in the shipwreck which meant that she got separated from her family. Probably forever.

Related Members of Pod:

Image Half Sister - Bianca: Would be aged twenty-six. Leda was relatively close to her eldest half sister who was of the Svefra through and through. To a great extent, Bianca taught Leda more than anyone else, in terms of practical skills like sailing and swimming, but also of showing respect and courtesy to others. When Leda saw her for the last time, before the shipwreck in which everyone seemed to have died, she was six months pregnant.
Image Half Sister - Perdita: Would be aged twenty-five. Leda was less close to Perdita, but perhaps had more respect for her. To Leda's mind, Perdita was very quiet and even boring, preferring to think and observe rather than get involved. This nature hid a will of iron and a stubbornness which was most highlighted by her unwillingness to find a partner and breed children for the Pod. She was a very good sailor, but it was her ability to climb the rigging at great speed and in all weather conditions that was truly impressive.
Image Half Sister - Diana: Would be twenty-three. Diana was the storyteller, more than anything else, and not much good at much else apart from shooting at things with her bows and arrows. Diana was a feisty and proud woman with a fiery temper and the perfect willingness to viciously attack anyone who opposed her too strongly. Leda found herself trusting Diana with more intimate conversation than any of her other sisters, even though Diana was probably the last one of the five anyone would want to trust with their secrets.
Image Half Sister - Emelia: Would be aged twenty-one. Emelia was merely the perfect example of one who would be a Svefran wife and mother. She already had a good partner and was hardly visibly pregnant, and aspired to no higher than to roam the sea forever, populating her pod with many healthy and worthy children. She wasn't a pushover, but she was mild-mannered and disliked confrontation almost as much as she disliked staying too long on stable ground.
Image Half Sister - Sibella: Would be aged twenty. Excessively vain, ignorant, silly and foolish. Headstrong but without any of the intelligence or common sense to back it up. Leda got on alright with her as a rule, but she got on her nerves and Leda would sometimes snap when constantly assuaged by self-gratifying and rude comments about everyone and everybody because, if there was anything that Sibella definitely was, it was a gossip. Her only gratifying feature was her cleanliness and orderly nature, not to mention her good looks.

Me, Myself and I

Image

General Information :
1. What is your Name? Leda Oceanripple, but just call me Leda.

2. Do you go by a nickname or pet name? Leda is short enough, and I think it's a rather pretty name. It is not too long either and I like that.

3. How old are you? I am eighteen. Best age to be! Oh, of course, I'm not wholly serious. Each age has its benefits and drawbacks.

4. What is your height? I am a petite person, but I am not sure exactly how high. Smaller than most other healthy women, I would say.

5. What is your weight? Relative to my height. I am slim but I have curves, with a tiny waist.

Aesthetics :
1. Describe yourself as you see yourself. A petite, dark-haired fortune teller with bright blue eyes. I think I am rather pretty, but I suppose I am not that sort of boring prettiness. Is that vain to say? Ah well, I do not really care.

2. Describe yourself as others typically see you. The same as I see myself? At least I hope so.

3. What is your favourite body feature? I like most of my body features. People always comment on my eyes. They're very blue. However, I love my figure, especially how small my waist is.

4. How physically fit are you? I am relatively fit. I can run a while before getting out of breath, though not very fast. I am not very strong though, which is one of the reasons why I wield an estoc, which is a relatively light weapon, rather than anything heavier.

5. How do you typically dress and what is your style? I like to wear generally floaty clothes, usually rather colourful. I like to be covered up, but with my figure valorised.

Family :
1. Who are your parents and what are they like? My Birth was the result of a mad romance between a Svefra Sailor and a Benshira Nomad. They met each other when the ship was short on supplies and desperate. The Benshira took the Svefra in for about ten days. I suppose it was a case of immediate compatibility and my mother got pregnant. She was lovely but probably drowned in a storm when I was ten. My Father married someone else and I think he has children. I'd like to meet him maybe at some point. I was pretty much raised by my elder half sisters and other members of the pod.

2. Do you have any brothers or sisters? I have a few half sisters. Bianca, Perdita, Diana, Emelia and Sibella. I got on well with all of them. Bianca and Perdita moved into different pods upon getting married, which was a strange case since males usually move in with the female rather than the other way around. There was a shipwreck and I lost Diana and Emelia and probably Sibella. I think there is a small chance that, like myself, Sibella might have survived the storm but I am quite certain that both Diana and Emelia are dead.

3. What is your extended family like? There were many people in my pod. I had a few cousins and loads of second cousins. On the whole, they were all nice, but Millicent, my second cousin, was an absolute petcher. She would always make fun of me and push me and pull my hair, even though she was five years older than me. I was ten and she was fifteen and was an awful bully. It only got worse when, aged fifteen, I started having a romantic relationship with her brother. Yes, I know he was my second cousin, but that was considered more than acceptable in our pod. Yann was very handsome with long, auburn hair and bright green eyes, and so kind to me. He told Millicent to lay off but, of course, she never did. She once almost killed me. She held my head down under water and only released me after almost two minutes when I stopped struggling. I had to be revived and, when the others asked her why she did it, she laughed and told me it was only a joke. I was so scared and it really scarred me. Then Yann found out and vowed never to speak to Millicent again; he was really angry and said that if she ever touched me again, he'd kill her. Millicent was never as bad as that again though of course she still tripped me over whenever she got the chance. I suppose they're both dead now.

4. Do you consider close friends as important or more/less important than family? I have hardly any family left, and in my pod, everyone was like a big family. I suppose friends are more important at the moment but, in the past, my friends were all members of my family, even if distant and merely through marriage.

5. Do you treat animals like family? No. Animals aren't worth as much as humans or other intelligent humanoids. They make good companions, of course, and you shouldn't harm them on purpose, but if you lose an animal, it's not like losing a real flesh-and-blood intelligent life-form. It's wholly different.

Location :
1. Where were you born? In the southern Suvan Sea. My mother went into labour while still on board the ship but I was physically delivered on the sands of Paradise Point, which was very lucky, as it's probably the place that most resembles any form of Svefra civilization.

2. Where do you live now? Syliras.

3. If you could live anywhere in Mizahar where would that be? For the moment, I am really rather happy, here in Syliras.

4. Do you have a favourite place to vacation or spend leisure time? I do not have the luxury of travelling for leisure.

5. Where do you fear to be? Nowhere really. I suppose I would heartily dislike being underground for long periods of time. A lack of sun and of air makes me a little depressed and irritable.

Traits :
1. Do you have any physical weaknesses (disease, scars, and missing limbs?) I have a scar across my left knee, the only effect the pivotal shipwreck had on me, so it must be all the luck of Kelwyn. Most other people on board died, either on the sharp rocks or drowning. Somehow, I was carried to a bed of sand and had a soft landing.

2. Are you right handed or left handed? Right handed. Although being left handed is unlucky, I always used to want to be left handed because someone told me it was a sign of intelligence... and I felt it would make me stand out from the crowd.

3. What languages do you speak? What do you sound like? Do you have an accent? I am fluent in Common and have little to no accent, having heard many different dialects of it and adopting the most usual and refined form of it. I have quite a deep, musical voice. Usually, a little on the quiet side, except when I am in a confrontation, angry, excited or drunk. Oh, but I am a darling drunk. I don't become aggressive, just very happy and warm-hearted. When I am drunk, I feel an overwhelming love for everyone and everything.

4. Do you have any odd mannerisms, annoying habits, or other defining characteristics? I have a habit of sitting a certain way, with my knee pulled up to my chest with my chin resting on it. I've been doing it for a while and I am not ready to stop - especially as I have recently been told that it's rather cute.

5. Do you have (or want to get) any tattoos or piercing? Why do you have them (or will get them) ? I wouldn't mind having a little tattoo on my left ankle, or one behind my ear, or neck or even on the small of my back. After all, it is usual amongst the Svefra, but I don't currently have one. I have my ears and belly button pierced.

Occupations :
1. What is your occupation? I am a fortune teller.

2. Do you like/dislike your work? Why? I love my work and consider it an art. I believe in it whole-heartedly, not that I would tell you otherwise anyway. The only issue is when sceptics get a little violent or very rude and try and take their money back...and I am not very good at defending myself. I sort of understand them. Until I started learning to tell fortunes, I was more than a little sceptic.

3. If you could be anything you wanted to, what would you be? For the moment, I can not think of anything else I would rather be.

4. What occupation do you admire the most? Why? Midwifery and Healers and Doctors I suppose. Those who make the sick better. It's an admirable job and even more admirable in my eyes because I would have such trouble working with sick or dying people. It would make me so depressed even if I am sure you get a huge boost out of bringing someone back from the brink of death or illness and knowing that they are well again because of you.

5. What occupation do you lest like? Why? Torturer. It seems immoral to me. Then again, it's a living I suppose and these are difficult times.

Childhood :
1. What sort of child were you? I was a very dreamy and whimsical but also very mistrustful and cynical.

2. What is your favourite memory from childhood? I have so many happy memories, but my childhood is more of a blur of happy memories. As an adolescent though, my first kiss. That was rather magical and it made me realise that I really loved being kissed and held in a man's arms.

3. What is your worst memory from childhood? Millicent holding my head underwater. I suppose I was still technically a child and it was so frightening. I should really say the loss of my mother but though that was really devastating, you cannot understand what true fear is until you feel like you might die and can do nothing about it.

4. What sort of relationship did you have with your parents? I have already told you that I hardly know my father. I only saw him once when I was seven, though he seemed lovely and I looked more like him than my Mother. My Mother was beautiful, inside and out, never having a bad word to say about anyone... and I don't have a bad word to say about her. Actually, looking back, she was a little meek and had trouble standing up for herself. Still, she was wonderful and the day I lost her was very black. I cried for ages and I was never really the sort to cry. I was more used to simply withdrawing into myself for long periods of time and not reacting to anything when I was sad.

5. Who was your most influential rolemodel? The Lia of my Pod, my Mother and my half sisters. From the earliest age, I was surrounded by strong female figures and they brought me up.

Education :
1. What sort of education do you have? A practical one. I was taught to read and write by my sisters and learnt fortune telling from a Konti traveller. I would like to learn more about the world and have a more formal education, but it is not something which will happen in the near future, at least I do not think so.

2. Do you like/dislike learning? I love learning new things and think you're a fool if you do not. After all, knowledge is power and you never know when something will come in handy. I don't like being lectured at though. I prefer intelligent discussion.

3. Where or how did you learn most of your skills/abilities? Practically. Sometimes out of a book, but very rarely. After all, I just did not have the time.

4. How do you learn best? Practically - it is the only way I really know how.

5. What are your educational goals for the future? I'd like to learn more about auristics and the past history of Mizahar. I'd like to see people and places I've never heard of before. I just want to soak up as much civilisation and culture as I can. It's the only thing worth having money for. That, and beautiful clothes.

Relationships :
1. Do you form close bonds with people? Why? Why not? I don't usually form very close bonds with people I do not have a romantic interest in. I like having friends, but I know people come and go and I understand that and don't see the point in hanging on. Love, though, is completely different. I fall too hard and too fast and become too often attached to an interesting, handsome enigma of a man who shows a romantic interest in me. I like being in someone's arms.

2. Do you trust people easily? If not, why not? Both too easily and not at all? It's hard to explain and it depends on my mood. I suggest moving on.

3. Do you consider yourself straight, gay, bi, or something else? Straight, but I wouldn't say no to trying it with a girl. It's just that I think I usually like someone physically stronger than myself. It makes me feel like I am protected and, I don't know, men are much more my scene.

4. Have you ever been kissed? If so, describe the first time. It was the week after my fifteenth birthday, by which time I was really rather womanly, and with someone called Strephon. He was twenty-one and it was late. We were fixing the rigging together, and there was hardly anyone else about and I almost fell off, so he caught me, and I was pressed up against me. I was really scared and sort of hung on to him. He gently untangled me then, after a minute in which he just looked at me, he kissed me. It was magical and I thought I might fall off again. He was really sweet about it too, pushing it enough to really excite me but not enough to make it feel as if he was pushing for something more. Then he released me and apologised after we'd been kissing for a few minutes. I told him not to and moved to kiss him again. The second time, when it wasn't unexpected and new, was like the first time but twice as good and he ventured a little further, really pulling me against him so it felt as if we were attached.

Yes, I know I've really over-stated this, but it felt good and, from then on, I always had trouble saying no to a kiss from a man I find attractive.

5. Have you ever had sex? If so, describe the first time. Never, but the gods bloody well know I have come close to it a few times. It's only the desire not to get pregnant that ever stopped me.

Drugs and Alcohol :
1. Have you ever been drunk? If so, describe your first time. Oh god. Yes. I am a lightweight who loves the taste of alcohol and it does not take me a lot to get drunk, not that it's an issue when I am. I am not aggressive or anything, as I have previously stated. I just become very happy and warm-hearted and self-confident. I also have a tendency of dancing on tables then, if I really have had a lot, I fall asleep, usually against a stranger's shoulder. The first time I was drunk was when I was sixteen. We'd just reached port - Alvadas - and I had a drink with Yann, who was my beau at the time, and his friend Abion. I ended up kissing both of them, not that they minded. Yann said he thought it was cute.

2. Do you like to drink on a regular basis? Yes. It's awful. I'm trying to do it less, but going to a tavern is one of the simplest ways of having fun in Syliras.

3. What sort of alcohol do you prefer? Port is good. So is Mead. They're my favourites.

4. Have you ever tried drugs (mood altering substances)? If so, which kinds and what did you think of them? Never.

5. What do you think of drugs and alcohol? Be specific. Everything in moderation (Ha!) but I do not like the idea of drugs.

Likes and Dislikes :
1. What are your hobbies? Mostly things I am not very good at. I love singing, dancing and playing the lute. I have a musical soul, but no skill - it's awful. I also rather like doodling. Um... I wish I could learn to paint. Oh, and I like going for a swim at night, in Summer. It's very liberating.

2. Do you like to read? Of course, though I often don't have the time, which tends to limit my patience if I feel things are being dragged out. Fictional books don't need seven paragraphs about what the sky looks like. I have an imagination.

3. What annoys you more than anything else?
4. What do you find the most relaxing activity to do?
5. What kinds of things embarrass you? Why?

Favorites :
1. What is your favourite colour or colours? Gold, Silver, Blue, White and that sort of green turquoise. I like warm colours and rich colours too. Oh dear, I suppose I like all colours.

2. What is your favorite time of day? When the sun rises and when the sunsets. The sky is lit up with so many beautiful colours. I also like the way that when the sun rises, the sky is washed with so many

3. What is the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen? People are beautiful, I think. And the ones one would think most obviously so are often not. There is more beauty in character and lined faces than in perfection.

4. What do you like to eat? What do you hate to eat? I eat pretty much anything. I'm not picky. That said, I don't like things which are too sweet and I can't eat overcooked meat. I like meat relatively rare.

5. What is your favourite type of weather? Does any kind scare you? No type of weather scares me. I like hot rain in Summer. I like running around in it without my clothes on, or with only a thin layer.

Outlook :
1. Are you optimistic or pessimistic? Optimistic, in general. One should be happy.

2. What are your religious views? I do not currently have any.

3. Would you be able to kill? I am not sure. If I had to, then I would.

4. What are your views on sex? It sounds like it would be a lot of fun and, of course, it's for procreation. I think people should have sex - meaningful sex, but as much of it as they can get.

5. What, in your opinion, makes a successful life?

Actions :
1. What is the worst and best thing you’ve ever done?
2. What is your greatest regret?
3. What is your best/worst memory?
4. If you could change one thing about your past, what would it be and why?
5. What are you the most proud of doing in your life?

Emotions :
1. How honest are you about your thoughts and feelings with others?
2. Do you have any biases or prejudices?
3. What makes you happy?
4. Who or what, if anything, would you die for?
5. What makes you angry?

Relationships :
1. In general, how do you treat others? The way they deserve to be treated, but it's good to start a relationship on a basis of respect. You never know what sort of person you're dealing with.

2. Who is the most important person in your life, and why? Currently? Myself. I need to find myself a new nest.

3. Who is the person you respect the most, and why? Nobody currently alive. That includes Ghosts and Nuits, even though they're technically dead. Oh... that does not mean I do not like people who are alive. I do like the living.

4. Do you have a spouse or significant other? If not, describe an ideal lover. Tall and not overweight. In terms of appearance, I am not particularly choosy... if overweight or on the short side, very handsome or charming and interesting then. I have very few preferences, to be honest. No hair colour or eye colour strikes out as being better than any other.

5. Do you trust anyone to protect you? Who, and why.
