A city floating in the center of a lake, Ravok is a place of dark beauty, romance and culture. Behind it all though is the presence of Rhysol, God of Evil and Betrayal. The city is controlled by The Black Sun, a religious organization devoted to Rhysol. [Lore]

Aello sneered, displaying her whitened teeth, glistening with saliva. Her lip furled, forming an unpleasant line of reddened pink. It rippled slightly, as though she were a wolf snarling at its prey a moment, before falling back into place as silence became her as the Symenestra spoke.

"Some may say we're no less bestial," the huntress whispered, as her eyes settled on Volinir's elongated nails. A black, the shade of a raven's feathers, curved as lightly as the crescent moon. "Than those openly garbed in creature's fur. For fine silks do nothing to sweeten the layers beneath one's skin." The woman shrugged. "Even so, our cruelty fails to beget more than the occasional death. Allowing both our kinds to spawn far more than that which is reaped."

Aello smiled, although it was a rather curious grin. Knowing. Uneasy, and yet, perhaps, a tad amused.

"Which, allows the society you have mentioned to continue on and on. Over several generations," Aello continued. "Creating bonds. Kin, whose blood is so easily shed." The girl paused. "Would it be wrong of me to say that we both go without? Only having realized just how much is missed, how much love lingered between warmed bodies, when one has grown cold?"

The huntress licked her lower lip as her face adopted a rather peculiar expression; one which denoted much, and yet nothing. For the mixture of emotions displayed seemed such an oddity in their coupling, that it left little to be confidently discerned.

She drummed her fingers on the table. "And still, you have evaded the question first posed," Aello commented. "For you mentioned what blood means to you, but not your fixation. After all, you did betray your disgust at its shedding. Severance..."

Her voice trailed off for but a tick, as the final words dangled on the edge of her tongue.

"Which by extension, would suggest you don't wish to so much as look," the girl added, as her eyes came off the table to settle on the Symenestra's pupils. "What is it then, that you so fear to find reflected within the reddened pools?"

"Allows your kind to spawn more than is reaped." Volinir corrected bitterly. He had grown up in Kalinor, and had experienced first-hand the sheer scarcity of his people. Odds were that he would be able to tell someone the first names of every Symenestra in Kalinor, and the family names of every one in existence. "My people are on the brink of extinction. All of us, every single Symenestra on Mizahar, if we all lived in Ravok, would make up less than a tenth of the city's population."

At her question about their lack of family, the Symenestra smiled sadly and tugged on an old brass chain around his neck, pulling a simple pendant the shape of a flattened egg into view. "I suppose you could say that. My family is on the other side of the world."

"My family most likely thinks I'm dead."

With a soft click, he dug a nail into a groove along the pendant and flicked it open. Inside was a simple portrait of a Sym girl of about nineteen or so, with a round, albeit pale, cheerful face, jet black hair, and soft purple eyes not unlike Volinir's. It was the only thing he had managed to hold on to since his departure, and for a good reason. While a little absorbed staring at his own sister's face, he still managed to catch the rest of what Aello said.

"Apologies." he said, looking up again, "I suppose I wasn't very clear. Since we both recognize what blood symbolizes, it could be stated by spilling it, by attacking another sentient, one attacks civilization itself. Blood is precious to me; to many of us, and we take its spilling very, very seriously."

With a shrug and a grim smile, he asked. "Does that answer your question?"

Muddied irises settled upon the pendant. Soft grooves sliding apart to reveal a portrait. Pale skin, raven colored hair, and eyes similar to a lavender. The girl studied the face silently, as the Symenesta continued speaking. Although, she was scarcely listening now, so intent was she on figuring out just whom the miniature painting depicted.

"Your sister?" Aello asked, as her brow furrowed into quizzical expression, and her eyes lifted from the simple chain to Volinir's eyes. "Or your girlfriend, perhaps?"

The woman paused, as she tucked a loose strand of hair behind her hair. "Either way, the resemblance is uncanny," she whispered, as she nodded her head slowly. Lightly tousling her deep brown mane before stilling.

Taking a deep breath in, and then out.

"Anyway..."

She pressed her hands into her thighs, began to run them back and forth, as though to rid them of sweat.

"How do you feel about hunting, then?" Aello asked. "Killing merely to sustain the self? Is it as atrocious a happening, or, less so?" she paused a moment. Licked her lips, wetting the cracked fissures. The tiny tears which she knew, would soon enough be trickling her blood.

"Death, whether you appreciate it or not, being such a necessary thing to keep some going. The stronger, it has been said," Aello whispered. "For without it, how could we weed out the dangers of our society? Murderers perhaps. Arsonists. Thieves."

Again she paused, allowing herself and him to consider.

"And how would a body survive merely on fruit, vegetables, and grains? We're not exactly Kelvics..."

Her voice trailed off for quite some time. "We need to kill."

Death is necessary, or so Dira help us.

OOCSorry for the delay, no power at home. And sorry this is so... all over the place.

"Sister." Volinir supplied, shrugging at her comment. When she inquired of his opinions on hunting, he shrugged again, "It's necessary, as you said. A sentient's soul is certainly greater than an animal's. There's no disputing that. Not to mention that animal's blood is not wasted. It had to die eventually; it may as well die for a good reason."

Her mention that Kelvics only survived on fruits and grained got a laugh from Volinir. He knew of a Kelvic that survived on just the opposite. "Kelvics need to kill too, but we don't need to kill each other, now do we? We can survive just fine on animals and plant life, no?"

OOCDon't worry about it!

The huntress chuckled. "They may as well, nor was it said they did not. Merely suggested, or perhaps mentioned would be a better word, that some of their kind could survive on just fruit and grain. Vegetables, depending on their animalistic form." Aello paused for a moment then as her eyes settled on the soft purple. Like a streak of light darting across the sky whilst the sun set. "A wolf, however, for example, would need another creature's flesh and blood as much as you and I."

A delicate smile crept across her lips as her eyes sparkled knowingly. Only too knowingly, for she knew one of each nature rather intimately, having bonded with them in seasons passed. Lightly, the huntress shook her head, tousling her long chestnut colored mane. "No, we do not need to kill each other to go on each and every day," she responded before pausing a moment. "But that does not answer my question, stranger. What do you think we should do with the likes of murderers?" she asked for the second time before shrugging. "Kill them too? Send them to prison? Torture them until their blood runs freely?" Again she shrugged as she pushed her back into her seat. "Let them go?" she finished as her right brow curled into a high arch.

Anticipating.
