A city floating in the center of a lake, Ravok is a place of dark beauty, romance and culture. Behind it all though is the presence of Rhysol, God of Evil and Betrayal. The city is controlled by The Black Sun, a religious organization devoted to Rhysol. [Lore]

Iskessah frowned at the letter in her hands as she searched through the apartments for one Mr. Vorot. It was a name she hadn't heard before, which was odd. In the seven years she'd been running messages all over Ravok, she would have thought she'd have learned very nearly everyone's name by now. Regardless, she managed to learn the direction of the Vorot apartment from a gossiping old lady for whom she'd done deliveries in the past. Iskessah really hadn't wanted to sit through half a bell of likely false rumors about the sordid affairs of the Vorot siblings, but the woman refused to tell Iskessah anything useful until she spewed every irrelevant anecdote and suspicion she had in her.
As she moved briskly along the canals, jogging in an attempt to keep herself alert, she thought more about the letter she was tasked to deliver. As with all unsealed letters, Iskessah had read it once out of sight of its author, in this case a young female from a lesser family in the noble district. The girl had sketched small pictures in the margins, and the whole paper (not parchment) smelled faintly of some vile plant-substance (the girl had called it "strawberry scent").
In the words on the page, the girl wrote a great deal of nonsense, but the part which galled Iskessah the most was when she declared her love for Mr. Vorot, and nothing short of begged him to be hers alone forever. Upon reading that passage the Dhani remembered, as she often did, why she was in fact superior to these pathetic humans. Every Dhani knew that the female took which males she wanted, and kept them with her own strength, not...ugh...begging.
As much as she wished the girl's family would put her out of her weak, pathetic misery, Iskessah remembered that she was in Ravok, and things were different here. She would simply deliver the message, get paid, and go home, and not worry any more about how easy it should be to kill girls like that in their sleep. As she was thinking these oh-so-pleasant thoughts, she came to the door the old woman had described to her, and knocked sharply three times. |

Tanjun was practicing her swings inside of her appartment. She knew that it wasn't particular smart to do this, one could see that from a couple gashes in the ceiling, but she didn't want to bother going out to train. She wasn't really happy because lately some woman had been sending mail more often. The most infuriating was that she was apparently from a wealthy family and thus Tanjun couldn't lay a hand on her without consequences.
"Argh, it pisses me off. Why can't I just tell that friggin girl off... It would help a little if I would know what she looked like, but that's not the point. I need to learn that slut that Tanir is mine and no one else's.", she started cussing around. The result of her losing her temper was a lot of noise which carried out through the door. "I've made up my mind. If she comes by today again to drop off a letter, I'll friggin kill her. No one has to know what or how it happened.", she said to herself softly as she started to grin widely.
It was then that she heard three sharp knocks on the door. "Maybe it's her, good timing. I'll give her a... -warm- welcome she won't soon forget.", she thought as she walked to the door, her Zanbatou (Glaive) casually over her shoulder. Tanjun janked the door open and right after her eyes were drawn to the letter like moths to flames. "So you are the one trying to take my brother away. I'm sorry, but I'll have you die right here.", she said with the most innocent face she could manage.
She grabbed her Zanbatou and swung it overhead, but forgot she was standing in the doorpost, so the blade ended up getting stuck in the doorpost. A surprised look came over the girl's face as she started to pull on her weapon in an attempt to dislodge it. "Petching doorpost. It shouldn't be there when I try to kill a whore like her.", she almost shouted. "I love brother the most, he may only look at me. I won't have you steal him away from me!" |
I'm smiling, so you might want to start running.

Iskessah smirked down at the small woman with some measure of appreciation. Here at least was a girl who knew how to defend what was hers. On the other hand, swinging that stick around could be dangerous to Iskessah's health. Looking mildly annoyed, Iskessah took firm hold of the weapon. She did not try to move it, merely prevented the girl from doing so.
With a smile of gritted teeth, she held out the monstrosity of a letter, wanting to be rid of it as soon as possible. "My job iss to deliver the letter to Missster Vorot." She spoke slowly, planning each sentence carefully before speaking. If she was not careful, her excessive use of hissed s's could give her away. Sometimes she resented the Common language for having so many of that letter in it's most important words. She could be so much more eloquent if she were not so limited, but alas, she was reduced to sounding like a child. "I do not want your brother. The author of the letter doesss." Petch. Why did this have to be so hard? Maybe she would be lucky and the girl would be too angry to notice Iskessah's speech pattern.
She eyed the weapon stuck in the doorframe, trying to figure out a way to use it to be impressive. Iskessah might be able to pull it out, but she was at too awkward an angle to do so from here. Maybe if she kicked it... but something like that would cause her to fall over. She'd been walking on two legs for a while now, but it was by no means her natural state, and she did not trust her balance on one leg, and kicking something stuck in a wall equated roughly to pushing herself over. No, she would not risk that.
She settled for looming over the little girl, and speaking in clipped tones. "Now tell me the location of your brother. I will do my job, and then I will get paid." |

As the woman spoke, Tanjun immediately stopped trying to pull her glaive free. She wasn't hearing things right? Was this woman really hissing? Glancing at that woman, she just took a close look, but she couldn't find anything out of the ordinary. "Must be hearing things, or she just hisses easily. Meh, still wanna smack her., she thought to herself.
The woman, demanding to see his brother, would get out betrayed as the girl didn't know where he was. All she knew was that he was out on a job... he was gone a bit too long for that though, but she still hoped he'd return soon. "Well, sorry to tell you, you speech impaired woman, but I haven't got a clue as to where he is. Oh and would you tell me who sent that piece of garbage? I'll make sure that she won't think of writing another one.", she said as he voice grew darker near the end. She obviously wanted to see blood flow, preferably that of the sender.
"By the way, would you be so kind as to let my Zanbatou go? I need to get it out of the doorpost as I still wanna train a little and I'll need it for my.. ehm.. convincing." The girl's voice turned quite sweet, as if it was the most normal of cases to just draw blood for sending a letter. Then with an even sweeter voice she said: "Don't worry, you'll get your money, but not from my brother. You'll just get it from that whore that thinks that my brother is just some toy she can mess around with." |
I'm smiling, so you might want to start running.

Iskessah was speechless for a moment, as the only thing coming to mind was, this creature is insane. After a few ticks, that thought was accompanied by, I'm not getting paid enough for this. It was going to be more trouble than it was worth to make sure the letter got into the right hands.
Before she let go of the human's weapon, she tried to come up with how the easiest course of action would be justifiable. She had been told to deliver the letter to "Mr." Vorot... but there had been no description beyond that. This girl was just boyish enough that Iskessah could claim an honest mistake. The best part was that no one had any way to verify her success or failure. If Mr. Vorot failed to reply, why, he could have simply chosen to ignore the letter, rather than have failed to receive it at all. It seemed unlikely that Iskessah was changing the course of events greatly by leaving the letter with this maniac.
As for telling the Vorot girl about the sender of the message? Iskessah honestly didn't care, but she thought it might set a bad precedent if one of her clients were mysteriously and brutally murdered.
The "speech-impaired" comment had not gone unnoticed either, and so it was with a cold and somewhat hard voice that she replied, "I came to deliver a letter." She dropped the foul-smelling paper on the floor. "I have done ssso." And without another word, she released the girl's weapon and strode briskly away to tell the young noble woman of her "successful" delivery. |
