Day 02 fall 512 AV With the passing of the previous day's storm had come the appearance of a watery, weakened sun. Without a doubt, it was fall and the straight-forward bitch that Mother Nature was, she was not going to let anybody get it wrong; when she said it was time for things to stop being sunshine, rainbows and pleasantly skimpy outfits, she did not play around. Sighing with a mixture of melancholy and nostalgia, Calen made his way into the library and towards the clerk desk where, as always he found the head librarian doing whatever it was she was doing; Calen didn't care enough to really pay attention. Drumming upon the wood with as much co-ordination as a deaf, mute and drunk amputee, Calen smiled softly as he caught sight of the librarian's half-smile, which she hid, for the most part, by ducking her chin ever so slightly. "Good morning ma'am" Calen whispered, as much as he was a bit of a rebel, he loved the library and held great respect for its rule of near silence. This was partially why the head librarian whose name Calen always seemed to forget, didn't mind conversing with him, if only for a little while. "It's midday Calen" the elderly woman retorted drily, her voice betraying not a smidgen of remorse for the damage she must have assumed she was doing to his self-esteem. Unfortunately for her, she had forgotten that Calen's self-esteem was as untouchable to others as female's private areas were to Calen. "Ah, but what is mid-day if not morning, all grown up?" Calen said with a hint of a rhetorical question at the end. He knew that she knew that he was talking out of his ass and he didn't care even one bit. That was partially why he loved his conversations with this woman; she always found a way to make him feel simultaneously dumb and appreciated within seconds of verbal exchange. Lifting her head, Calen's favorite elderly woman gave him her all too familiar half-smirk of derision before whispering, ever so softly "Calen, what can I do for you today?". It was a question that she not have been even the least bit insulting, but she always managed to make it sound like she was speaking to an invalid. Simply standing there, admiring her for her sheer ability to simultaneously insult and be polite to him, Calen came to the conclusion that he was going to have start flirting with her; she was simply too good to ever allow anyone else the pleasure of possessing. "Well, for one you can direct me to the magical tomes. Again. And then maybe you could agree to accompany me to a meal." Calen stated, winking at her, though he did so with quite a bit of effort as he had always found it difficult to wink. Unfortunately, it was obvious that the librarian found Calen anything but charming as she suddenly began to cough, Calen was sure, to cover up her need to laugh. For an instant, Calen was offended, but then he stopped and thought about it and instead broke out into a grin; it HAD been kind of funny. "Um, Magical Tomes are over there, where they've been for years now Calen, and no. Definitely not." she said between gasps for air. "Got it, thanks ma'am. And remember, I was being serious about that meal" Calen responded, once more winking only to elicit much of the same response. As Calen made his way through the library he took note that many more people seemed to be in here than he ever remembered. "Hm, interesting" he thought to himself as he stopped for a moment to grab hold of a tome that seemed to be sticking out of one of the shelves. It was just as he freed the thick, leather-bound work from the aforementioned shelf that he caught sight of what appeared to be some sort of mutant. Whatever it was seemed to have four arms and an abnormally large head. This, of course, caused Calen to stare at it unashamedly; one had to have a sense of shame to be ashamed, after all. It wasn't until a portion of its hard shifted that Calen realized that it was not a mutant, but rather two people kissing passionately. For an instant, Calen was seized by the notion that he should look away, but then the moment of temporary insanity passed and instead he took a nearby seat, cracked his tome open to a random page and stared with almost as much passion as the two people who were kissing seemed to be producing. Watching them, Calen took note of the girl's fiery red-hair and her roaming hands, which seemed to be doing their best to further ruffle her companion's already mussed hair. He also took note that, unlike his female companion's hands, the sandy-haired young man was not allowing his hands to roam free from his partner's derriere. Calen suddenly regretted not having brought something to eat; he found snacks always enhanced the entertainment value of a show. It was just as his thoughts strayed to snacks that Calen's eyes met with the eyes of the male portion of the kissing duo; the female had her back to Calen. Instantly, a sort of bond was formed between the two men. The bond of an aroused and startled male and a calm and attentive voyeur. It was the natural order at its best. For an instant, Calen expected the man to say something or, worse yet, do something. But almost immediately, this thought left his mind as he saw the man first look away awkwardly but then return to look Calen in the eye. Calen understood completely. "Speaking or doing anything would mean you have to take your mouth off of hers, and you don't want to, do you" Calen mouthed at the man. Calen had no idea how to mouth words so the words were obviously lost, but the message was received, without a doubt. After a few more moments of staring into those big, grey eyes, the air was suddenly thick around Calen and he found himself brushing aside whatever strange, mental barrier he seemed to erect to keep himself away from his abilities as a user of auristics. Now Calen was less staring at the kissing duo and was more staring at their respective auras, which he found interestingly involved with one another, at the moment. Smiling, Calen continued to watch the auras until, suddenly, there was a sharp pain in his forehead and he pitched backwards, falling flat on his back, chair and all. Left groaning, Calen heard a distant "Stop watching us you perv!" It turned out to be the fiery, red-haired girl from the kissing duo. Needless to say, Calen got the message, he picked up both the tome he had opened earlier but never read and the tome the girl had thrown at him and began to walk away.
