Kalila’s tail cracked against his ribs, nearly lifting the murderer from his feet. Despite his preparation he hadn’t anticipated just how fast this Dhani was. She was nothing like Bones, a quick and spry contrast to the musclebound monster. In a moment, she had vanished into the foliage, leaving the youth to pick himself up from the ground and hiss quietly. His blade was dropped in the chaos, and he grabbed it, fingers closing over the hilt as he picked himself up. Skin and bone ached where the tail had lashed across him, and now that she was gone, it felt as though she had been more scared of him than he of her.

Good. Just as well.

“Cowardice, Kalila? I expected something more of you,” Shroud mocked into the forest, pivoting different directions in the small clearing, trying to catch a glimpse of her. “You come to Sunberth expecting what…exactly? A city of anarchists, thieves, and cutthroats and your choice is to play nursemaid to them.” He grinned, “Not exactly the smartest choice for a snake.”

He turned again, hurling Djed into his eyes, seeking her among the gloom. It was a mistake. The moment he tried to concentrate on more than a few leaves or a bush, his head exploded into pain. Bright images, the smell of flowers, decay, growth, it assaulted him, staggered him for a moment as he desperately pressed the Auristics away. Still not of use to him yet, still too green at this magic.

Instead he focused on the concept of reimancy, gathering a trickle of Res into his palm. “The Crimson Edge, ruled by a hedonist barbarian, his pet mage, and more women than men.”

A turn. “Is that what you are then, snake? Are you a toy for them? Are you their scaly night delight, a whore in healer’s clothing?” He laughed, the concept was not exactly impossible to grasp, “Dissuade me if you must, but what use is a girl in Sunberth if not for petching?”

He opened a palm at the forest around him, emitting strands of Res he converted into wind, blowing throw delicate leaves, exposing patches of earth. He searched for her.

“Perhaps I’ll forgive you if you lay with me tonight…” Another grin, sadistic, calculating, “I wonder if you’re as cold blooded inside as you are outside?”

Snake in the Grass (Kalila)

Postby Sahashkalila on October 12th, 2012, 2:43 pm

Her scales moved soundlessly over the ground, watching him carefully as she slithered slowly around the clearing. She couldn't deny the satisfaction she had felt when she had hit him, and as much as she hated admitting it.....she wanted him dead. She wanted to see him writhing on the ground in pain as venom seeped into his body, then watch the life leave his eyes. Her family would have been proud of her at that moment, because for the first time in her long life.....she actually wanted to hurt someone. She didn't like the thought, but she couldn't get it out of her mind, her body tensed and ready should he find her, falling into its natural state as if she was searching for her next meal. Somehow she didn't think he would taste good though.

She paused by a thick shrub, lowering her body further to the ground to watch him as he turned around in the clearing. She knew what he was doing, as it was obvious from what he was saying. He was trying to lure her out through insults, hoping to get her to strike, which was what she really wanted to do. She was frightened of him though, he was using things that she did not understand . A faint breeze blew over her, adding to her confusion. It only seemed to blow in certain spots, in the directions that he was facing.....and her eyes widened in surprise as she realized that he was looking for her. It was magic, and she moved her tail quickly as the wind blew dangerously close to her hiding spot, exposing the dirt beside her. He seemed to be full of all kinds of tricks, and her body tensed in anger at his latest insult, her lips pressed in a thin line.

A whore in healer's clothing. So that's what he thought of her. Her body literally quivered in fury, and if she was in her human form her cheeks would be aflame. She had never lain with a man in her life, saving it for when she did find someone that she loved. And the though of others using her body for their own purposes disgusted her, especially him. "Isss that your price?"she called out suddenly, unable to bite her tongue and remain silent, circling him once again so as he wouldn't be able to pinpoint her exact location for long. "That I am to lay with you tonight to sssurvive and if I do not then I am to die? You are a dissgussting creature!"she spat in anger, her eyes looking for a weak spot on him to sink her teeth into. "Desspite all of that.....I pity you. I don't know what hass caussed you to be thiss way, perhapss it iss your very soul that iss corrupted, but I pity you,"she said, stopping for a moment before slithering out of the undergrowth, rising to her full height and staring down at him.

"But that doessn't sstop me from wanting you dead at my feet,"she hissed, her body swaying from side to side as her fangs began to elongate once more. "Nurssemaid I may be, but I am no man'ss whore!" She then tensed and sprung at him, aiming for his groin so she could easily sink her teeth into the artery that resided there.

Verdant shadows fell from her scales like rain, her fluid steps complimenting a figure swaddled in scales. She moved like a river, movement given flesh and cast in glimmering color. Shroud hid is amusement as she stepped out of the forest. So, it was the words of whoring that gave spark to her languid blood. Was it that she abhorred those creatures of night and sex? Was there experience to necessitate her hot headed response?
In any case, she had shown herself to him.
Now apart from each other they stood, her who rose above him on electric muscles, impulses, and cold fury. He, shorter, prepared, coils in his heels.
“So,” he said to her, “This is what it takes to show your spirit. Took you long enough.”

So. I’m curious.

What, Zan.

Are we really going to kill her?

Of course not. Cripple our medical capacity?

Then what is this?

She’s a monster, like me, and now I’ve proven it.

Because she wants to kill you?

Precisely.

I dunno, sounds like a logical decision to me.

The decision to take a life is one that must be weighed with morality. The healer is willing to take a life. She is not of Rak’Keli.

What’s my role in this?

Wait and see. Just be prepared to act swifly.

And do what?

Shroud grinned, taking the small glass flask from his belt in his other hand.

She moved even as he was. Her body reared back, snapping forward with blinding speed. The strike was well placed, long fangs and scaly neck darting toward his groin. Shroud leaped backwards, tossing the glass vial into her open mouth as he did so, hitting the ground and rolling across it in a clatter of metal and bones.

She was after him just as fast, taking advantage of his prone position.

Now, Shroud thought, Cut off her air.

Yes, master. But I expect we’ll talk about this later.

Kalila would feel the warmth of something liquid, the vial she’d no doubt tried to spit was now liquid, moving, burning her tongue and settling in her trachea. Zan remained there, floating on invisible currents of Djed, blocking air from her lungs.

Shroud was rolling, spinning his dagger up to ward off another strike from her. It wouldn’t take long for her to realize her danger.

Only until she collapses, he said to Zan, I don’t want her dead.

As you wish, the familiar answered grimly.

Snake in the Grass (Kalila)

Postby Sahashkalila on October 19th, 2012, 12:48 am

He lurched backward as she moved to strike him, and for a moment she believed that she was going to win their uncalled for fight. But something was suddenly tossed into her open mouth and she faltered, her tongue tasting glass as she missed her critical chance, and trying to spit out whatever he had tossed at her in contempt. She turned quickly as he began to roll away from her, her lower body slithering back around and tensing for another strike.....and it was then when she realized the gravity of the situation that she was in.

She could not spit out whatever he ad tossed into her mouth. The solid quickly turned into liquid, a cooling sensation coating the inside of her mouth before slithering down her throat, her eyes widening in surprise as she faltered in her attack once again. One hand flew up to her throat, thinking that perhaps he had thrown a poison at her and she had swallowed it, or some kind of drug that would pacify her. Kalila knew of several herbs that could shut down bodily functions, and she began to panic, gasping....only to realize that she couldn't. What ever she had swallowed had settled into her chest, constricting her airway and leaving her unable to draw breathe. She looked at him in horror, slithering bak from him as her hands came up to her chest, frantically trying to get herself to retch to perhaps dislodge whatever was settled inside of her, to no avail.

She was slowly weakening, her body heaving as she tried to regain her breath, her vision going blurry as she tried to keep her eyes on him. Her body slowly began to fall to the ground, her tail continuing to writhe as she tried to fight the darkness that was overwhelming her. She was going to die here alone, with a human who didn't seem human at all. Who was just trying to prove a point. At that moment she realized she had no idea why she was trying to fight what was happening to her. She had been wishing she was dead ever since the night her family was killed, and now she was finally getting her own wish it seemed. Her body slowly began to relax, the blackness seeming to take over her vision before she was able to see one last glimpse of him, holding out his knife in front of him to ward her off. Her last thought was that he was still leery of her even as she lay dying, the blackness finally closing in as she dropped unconscious.

"Come out now, Zan, No sense in killing her."

That. Was. Disgusting.

You'll survive.

I'm serious. Literally revolting. Her whole body didn't want me there. It bucked. It was revolted by me.

Most things we drink don't have the intellect to talk back.

How can you make a joke of this?

How can you not?

Zan slithered out of her open mouth, floating up to his master before becoming a bottle again. Shroud clutched the bottle and put it at his belt, leaning down over her body.

He trailed his fingers down the scales of her skin before taking her mouth and holding it open, whipping out his dagger and gouging out a fang. She bucked, but he put his knees into her chest and kept her down. For a moment, he considered stabbing her, marking her, but thought better of it, standing and wiping the blood of the Dhani on his shirt.

"Embrace what little violence you have if you're going to survive here," He said shortly, tucking the fang into his pocket. "Otherwise, we'll eat you alive.

Snake in the Grass (Kalila)

Postby Sahashkalila on October 29th, 2012, 1:06 pm

An acute pain seemed to rouse Kalila from her unconscious state, her coils twisting as her body tried to recover from her ordeal. Was she dead? She wasn't really sure if she was, it's not like she really knew what it felt like. She didn't think she would be in pain if she had died....which led her to assume that whatever she had ingested caused her just to lose consciousness. With that thought in mind, she took in a shuddering breath, the sound wet and ragged, causing her to cough and taste the metallic tang of blood in her mouth.

Kalila groaned and rolled to her side, hearing words being spoken to her but not really processing what was being said. She coughed again and spat out the viscous fluid, her tongue absently feeling where her fangs would be....to find one gone! She had long teeth before, being careless when she was younger trying to catch a meal. But when that happened before, they were a clean break, and would grow back within the next few days. This felt more jagged, the flesh cut and ragged as if the tooth was gouged out. Could the boy have done it? If so it made her feel...violated, and she looked down the rest of her body to see if there were any more injuries before coughing and spitting again.

She could not stay in the form she was in now, she couldn't afford for anyone to see her like she was. She knew the fang would be replaced soon despite what form she may have been in, and so she gathered what little strength she had left and shifted back to her human form, breathing a sigh of relief once doing so. Her jaw ached terribly, but she didn't seem to have any lasting damage in this form so she rolled back onto her back, looking around until her eyes rested on the boy. He could have killed her easily, and perhaps whatever she had ingested would kill her eventually, she didn't know. But why didn't he, that was the thought that most preoccupied her mind as she looked at him.

Shroud paused at the edge of the clearing, turning around. She looked at him, her eyes wide. There was hatred there, confusion, fear, revile...a cocktail of powerful notions swarming beneath the doe-brown of her eyes.

"You can find your way back to camp, can't you?" All the threat had left him. He only seemed tired now, favoring one side of his body as he made his way into the forest. All that anger, all that fear, all that undisguised bloodlust simply vanished into collecting shadows, swallowed by the night.

"You proved you could fight. That's all I wanted to know. I charged you a fang for my troubles, but left you your life." He shrugged, as if the decision had been a coin flip, or even unimportant enough to barely consider.

"Come for me any time you feel you can take my life. I warn you, the next time I will not spare you if I leave you in such a position. I...apologize for my insults. I wasn't sure I could draw that nature out of you." He ran a hand through his hair, looking away, avoiding her gaze.

"Sunberth is a place for killers and the killed. If you want to call yourself a member of the Crimson Edge...make sure you aren't one of the latter."

Shrugging his shoulders violently, ejecting her gaze as if it were a physical thing, he jogged into the forest without waiting. "No sense in being a doctor if you won't live to heal anyone."

Snake in the Grass (Kalila)

Postby Sahashkalila on November 30th, 2012, 1:07 am

At first she didn't register what he was saying to her. He had changed, his demeanor more calm and composed than he had moments before their fight, almost as if he was a completely different person. It confused her, unable to understand why he had left her alive and well and then ask if she could make it back to camp just fine. Was it another trick? Was he toying with her mind like he had only moments before? She didn't know, just like she didn't know if whatever she had ingested would kill her later, but she couldn't worry about that now. She struggled to sit up, her chest feeling heavy and bruised from her ordeal. Blushing slightly, she grabbed her robe and pulled it towards her, hiding her nakedness from his gaze before looking back at him.

He seemed as if he was.....hurt. And despite the circumstances, the doctor in her noticed the way that he favored one side of his body over the other, causing her to wonder if she had caused some sort of internal damage to him. She wasn't going to get close enough to find out again, but she still felt a small need to help him. "I....can find my way,"she said warily, her voice raspy as she continued to watch him, waiting for the trick he may have hidden up his sleeve. But nothing seemed to come, no pulling of the knife or sudden lunge, no surge of unspeakable emotion. Instead, her eyes widened in surprise at his explanation, suddenly realizing what he had done. He had taken away her fange, and her hand came up to rub her jaw before letting it fall back into her lap, hardly believing what she was hearing. He said it like....like she didn't even matter, as if there whole exchange was just something that happened everyday. Her lips pressed together tightly and formed a thin line, her anger building beneath the surface the more she listened to him talk.

"I have no dessire to sseek you out, or ever sssee your face again. Our bussinessss iss concluded.....and I will never except your apology,"she said with as much dignity as she could muster, watching as he slipped away into the forest. He was right about one thing. Sunberth was indeed for the predators. She was a creature that was feared and reviled, and she ended up being the prey in a situation that nearly killed her. She did not belong here, that much she knew and understood, but she simply had nowhere else to go. She shook her head and sighed, moving to get up and get dressed once she felt sure that he was indeed gone. She slowly wrapped her scarf around her head, covering her face until nothing could be seen except for her eyes. It was time for her to head home and forget the incident ever happened.
