For all her time spent in The Spires so far, Nasrin had spent little time exploring the outer petals of the city, spending most of her time either in her newly constructed home, or down in the Base Camp, where she'd lived (miserably) for quite some time. She regretted not having ventured to this petal before now, the Petal of Feral Embrace. After all, it was here that her skills would be honed further. She had heard tell of a shop in this area, a perfume shop to be exact. Surely the proprietor of such a place in The Spires would have the knowledge that Nasrin lacked about the local flora and their uses.

While Nasrin was decently knowledgeable about the proper composition of perfumes, what smelled good paired with what, her practical knowledge at producing the product needed work. She could create the most basic of floral waters and herb essences, but the process took her full attention and she did not get as pure of a result as she liked. This was what she was traveling to learn, as well. It was the way of her people to continuously better themselves, never allowing themselves to become content with their current level of skill.

Finally after much walking Nasrin found what she was looking for; Scintillating Scents. The windows of the establishment were thrown open, and even from many feet away Nasrin could detect the sweet green fragrances of the plant life within. Upon entering, her mouth nearly watered at the sight of hundreds of plants growing freely inside, things both familiar and exotic. She ran her hands delicately over the deep red petals of roses, the perfect spiraled curl of a fern. Butterflies of astonishing colors flitted about the enclosure, presumably to aid in pollination. So entranced was she by this perfumer's paradise that she took no notice of the Konti in the back of the shop.

[Scintillating Scents] Flower Child (Reaper)

As usual, the nearly overpowering scent of flowers and perfumes hung heavily in the air within the shop. Anyone else might have been nearly overwhelmed. Not Tika. Tika's nose had grown accustomed to the thick, sweet smells, but her sense of smell was still just as sharp, able to tell each scent apart from the others. At the moment, she was in the back of the shop, doing what she normally did when there was nothing else to do; experimenting. "Let's see... Some poppy seeds, scent of rose, a little more water..." She mashed the ingredients into the little pot and began to stir, leaning in to get a good whiff of how it was coming along. "If only I had some Salialana. It would simply be perfection." She heard footsteps entering the store and the rustle of hands sliding across flowers and leaves. A customer! She put her work down. Letting it sit and stew might have a new effect on it anyway.

She parted the leaves of a hanging fern to reveal and Ephyrian. The four armed woman was marveling at the wondrous sight of the dozens of plants growing on almost every square inch of the store. The sight of her wonder was almost enough to make Tika chuckle proudly. She smiled wide, stepping through and speaking to the new arrival in her soft, sweet, yet energetic voice. "Hello! Welcome to Scintillating Scents! How are you doing today?" Always be interested in the customer. "Are you enjoying the view? How about the smell? It is simply wonderful is it not?" She extended a rose-essence-covered hand in greeting. "I am called Tika. How can I help you today?"

She lifted a hand, extending a finger to the side in front of her own face. A colorful blue butterfly landed. She smiled at it, simultaneously sensing that intangible feeling of her gift going to work on the four armed woman. "Actually, if you will allow me to guess, you wither want to buy the best perfume I have... or make one yourself that is even better."

[Scintillating Scents] Flower Child (Reaper)

Postby Nasrin on October 22nd, 2012, 7:21 am

Nasrin started visibly as her ears were assaulted with an exceedingly cheerful voice. The scent of rosewater reached her next, tickling her nose. It was a smell that Nasrin knew was expensive, a massive amount of rose petals required to produce even a small amount of the stuff.

"Hello! Welcome to Scintillating Scents! How are you doing today?"
a woman with flowing blonde curls greeted her. Nasrin was barely able to get her own greeting out of her mouth before the Konti continued, barraging her with questions and pleasantries.

"Are you enjoying the view? How about the smell? It is simply wonderful is it not?"

Here, Nasrin nodded seriously. It was indeed wondrous, a paradise for those that created art from these plants. Normally Nasrin would not tolerate these flippant, useless words from anyone, but Konti were somewhat above the other lesser races in her opinion, being born of a holy line much like Eypharians, and she would not let her impatient temper insult this woman, for Nasrin had come very far to learn her arts.

"Awioth-eniya, Mistress Tika. I am Nasrin re Ihsan."

She dipped her knees a bit with the formal greeting, and her lower hands curled into crescents in a show of respect. Her lips curled into a smile at Tika's next words.

"Very perceptive, Hejdi. I come to learn. To train, if you have me. I will make good student, work hard."

Tika's smile widened and she returned the Eypharian's gesture, bending her knees and making a crescent with her hands. "Nice to meet you, Miss Nasrin." She stood straight and looked over the woman, examining her. "Hmmm... Do you have any experience in gardening, Philtering, or making perfumes? Even if you don't, I can certainly teach you. All you have to have is determination and a good work ethic. Do you have both of those, Nasrin?"

She disappeared into her workspace and soon returned with the bowl of rose water she had made not moment before. She offered it to Nasrin, waiting for her to take it from her hands. "Allow me to ask for a test of skill and of knowledge, Nasrin. Select one flower, any flower at all, to add to this mixture and complete it. Mix it all together and return it to me so I can test it. Then I will decide whether or not I shall teach you." She had, of course, already decided that she would, but this was a demonstration, a gauge of how much she would need to teach. Besides, if Nasrin was able enough to make a good mixture, that was less work for Tika and another recipe to write down for later.

[Scintillating Scents] Flower Child (Reaper)

Nasrin nodded as Tika listed the skills that would be applicable towards working at the shop. She didn't have all of them, but she did have some, and would be more than willing to learn the rest.

"I have most experience in making perfume, am no longer considered amateur at it. I learn some philtering on long trip from Ahnatep, but not much. Learn some about plants, too; how to use for healing."

A determined look came over her face as she listened to Tika inquire about her work ethic. Obviously this woman wasn't familiar with the Eypharian way of doing things; if you weren't the best, you became the best, and if you were the best, you constantly bettered yourself to remain that way. She waited patiently as the Konti went into the back room of the shop, which Nasrin assumed was the work area. Her painted eyes widened as she returned with a bowl, the very strong scent of rose water wafting from it. That bowl contained at least fifty mizas worth of rose essence, maybe even more. She could clearly see the oily film sitting atop the hydrosol; one of the most valuable substances in perfumery.

She reached for the bowl with all four hands, holding it steadily and taking a moment to simply breathe in the aroma. It was incredibly intense, threatening to overpower all the other greenery in the room, but also sweet and undeniably floral. She set the bowl down onto the counter, taking to browsing the shelves for what she might use to complete Tika's assigned task.

Rose was most commonly used in Ahnatep in the production of hand and face creams, mostly for women. When it sank into the skin, it was known to aid in treating a variety of female disorders, especially the painful cramps of a woman's monthly. Offhandedly Nasrin wondered if Konti suffered from any form of that cursed time. Somehow she couldn't imagine the pristine, pale women enduring anything so...messy. In any case, she would attempt to pair the rose oil with a substance that both balanced it's overly floral nature, and complemented it's aromatherapeutic uses.

She pored over the plants growing in the shop, running her fingers over each one carefully, considering its scent and uses. In her mind, another flower was already out of the question; it would make the resulting perfume too powerful and one note. She hmphed and began looking over the essential oils on the shelves instead, encapsulated in little clay bottles with labels on the front. At least her Common was good enough to read them.

"Ah, here. This will do." she murmured to herself.

She plucked a bottle of rosemary oil from the shelf, along with the necessary carrier oil, jojoba. It was not safe to place some essential oils directly on the skin, and they required a carrier oil to dilute them; it also made the mixing of two or more fragrances easier. Moving back to the counter, she gathered the mixing bowl and utensils she needed. She added the jojoba oil to the bowl first, as the neutral base. Then, she carefully skimmed a small amount of the oily film sitting on top of the rose water; a tiny amount was enough. It would be the base note of the fragrance, the foundation so to speak. It was important to add the scents in the order that you wanted them to be experienced. The top note would be what the user smelled first, and most strongly, but it would also evaporate the fastest; the middle and base notes would stick to the skin longer and remain as the scent changed over time. She then dripped several drops of the rosemary oil; the scent was rich and tangy, perfect for invigorating a woman that was tired or cranky from her monthly ill. She gave the mixture a thorough stir, wishing she could add more ingredients to blend it better, but the instructions had been clear; one addition only, and she slid the bowl towards Tika, bowing her head to indicate that she had finished.

Tika waved her hand over the bowl, wafting the fumes toward her face, and sniffed deeply. The scent had turned out very well. Nasrin obviously had at least a little knowledge about what she was doing. That, and she at least seemed like she was rather polite. "Well done Nasrin!" she said as she took the bowl from her hands, moving back to the back of the shop again to put it down and coming back to stand in front of the Eypharian. "Miss Nasrin, I would be happy to employ you in my shop! You have shown that you know what you're doing and I'm sure you are a very polite person. I hope you are ready to start as soon as possible!"

OOCContratulations! You have now been employed at Scintillating Scents.
