Basic Information

Wystern "Crow"
Syliran Knight
Race: Human
Birthday & Age : 19th of Spring 490 AV, 21 Years Old
Gender: Male
5th Wing, Black Company, 4th Regiment, Gold Quadron.

Physical Description
Wystern is 5'10, about 190 lbs; he has very dark brown hair and gray eyes. His body is as fit as the Knighthood requires it to be and it is decorated with many scars acquired over a short career. Wystern's hands bear the signs of his trade, calloused palms where the sword is gripped the most with scarred knuckles that signify his experience The Knight's skin is frequently very pale, lacking the ability to pick up a lot of tan. He, like other Knights has a Windoak crest imprinted on his body. His lies right below the hairline on the back of his neck.

Character Concept
Perhaps Wystern is not the most chivalrous of all men, but he has a lot of trouble raising his hand against women by choice. Wystern is a quick-witted fighter who loves to play about and beat around a subject. Wys is never afraid to speak his mind, but neither is he a stranger to tact. His piercing gray eyes, complemented by a trade-mark smirk tend to get on peoples' dark side. He feels like it is his destiny to be a Knight, but he still does not understand why, and at times, even how to be one.

Wystern is lacking the basic sense of fear. He wouldn't call himself courageous, it wouldn't apply. To be brave is to have fear and conquer it. He doesn't feel fear, nor does he panic, but he can get tense, nervous, and anxious at times of stress. His way of feeling fear is getting a doubts, and yet his mind doesn't exactly get cloudy. He is frequently confident, sometimes even arrogant with his abilities, and so Wys often comes off being a little suicidal.

Crow has an understanding of the code he is supposed to enforce and he somewhat frequently breaks it. He has a lot of difficulty getting the spot judgment right, whether to execute or apprehend being the most complicated decision. The code feels too wrong sometimes, too imperfect to enforce without any thought put behind the actions, but the word of a superior is everything it takes.

Wystern often has difficulty forming friendships. He is demanding of his friends, and for someone to become one, a huge trust quota must be filled. The trust is not about putting his life in someone else's hands, it's about resting everything that Wys believes and works for on someone's shoulders. Wys, blessed with a great ability to brush his annoyances aside, is just generally dismissive of everyone until he or she proves one's value to him.

Wystern's Code.
As a follower of Tyveth, Wys carries a code of honor that was passed onto him by his master and patron. The code includes the laws of Syliras, with some deviating aspects among other guidelines that Wystern follows. Such aspects and guidelines do not exactly break the laws, but they frequently interfere with what Wystern should do as opposed to what he actually does. Of course, the orders from his superiors can override all of those and more.

Laws of Syliras. :
1 Everyone is to conduct themselves in a civilized manner. Live life with honor. Working hard and sacrificing for the good of the whole will make the whole stronger.

2 All races are welcome in Syliras so long as they act in a helpful, polite, civilized manner. The definition of helpful, polite, and civilized is subject to Syliran Knight interpretation and may change at any moment.

3 All property in Syliras belongs to the Knighthood. Studios or suites are leased to individuals or families to live in. Businesses are owned by the Knights; a person who wishes to open a business may obtain space and starting materials from the Knights in exchange for all their profits, and will be paid a salary for their work. Anyone who damages or destroys any property within Syliras will be held accountable for the cost of the repairs, either through paying a fine or by an extended term of hard labor.

4 No summoning is allowed in Syliras, especially within Stormhold Citadel. If something unsavory is summoned, it tends to eat the summoner and anyone nearby, leaving a mess for the Knights to clean up.

5 Anyone practicing dangerous magic such as Fire Reimancy or Alchemy will be held responsible for any damage done to people or property within they city.

6 Violence is heavily discouraged. Anyone who has been threatened or harassed should report such behavior to the Knights rather than take matters into their own hands (or, alternatively, take it outside the Walls).

7 If you are any race other than human and do something to harass the human population (such as a Symenestra trying to kidnap a human female) then expect immediate and swift capital punishment.

8 If you are human and do something uncivilized, you can expect a trial then a life of hard labor if you do escape capital punishment.

Wystern's Guidelines. :
1 Wystern may not kill women of any human-like race. Wystern may not raise his hand against a woman unless physically provoked. Wys may only lay enough harm to defend himself. Under special circumstances this rule may be broken.

2 Wystern may not kill those who can not defend themselves due to age or disease or injury. Too old, too young, sick, or dying, they are out of his blade's reach.

3 To be human is to exhibit the characteristics of a human, and such the Drykas, the Inarta, the Benshira, the Eypharians, the Chaktawe, the Vantha and the Akalak are all considered human to such an extent. This obviously interferes with law number 7 and the guideline number 1.

4 All important knowledge is precious, and it will be treated as such.

5 While not under direct orders of his superiors, all identified Ebonstryfe and/or Black Sun members must be killed on sight, no questions asked.

6 What happens in Sunberth or Ravok will stay in that respective place.

7 Wystern may only not lie when under an oath on the Windoak.

8 What is ordered by the superiors will rest on those shoulders, not Wystern's.

Wystern - Syliran Knight

Postby Wystern on May 25th, 2010, 1:31 am

Character History

An interview, as asked by one of the Sergeant Knights during an assessment of Wystern Solus's psychological capacity and background about a year ago.

Wystern was sitting in an office in the castle. It was well decorated, had some nice wooden furniture, lots of papers everywhere. Lots of names seemed to be written on them. He was about to meet some clerk who was supposed to see how out of his head Wys really was. The Knight sighed, it was wasting his valuable time; he was sitting in a uniform, but not wearing any armor, nor was he carrying any weapons. He had to leave them upon the entry to the office. He was away from his katana, and that little departure did not bode well with him at all. Wys was a soldier, the sword was his tool, his better half, so to speak. He rested in a soft leather chair equipped with armrests and with slight engravings on the legs. Whoever he was about to see was paid pretty well, or was fairly important to someone. After about twenty minutes passed, a man dressed much like Wys walked in.

"Hello," Wys said with a smirk.

"Hello, I am the officer that is supposed to check on you, You may call me Darek. So, is it Sir Wystern, or Sir Solus?" he said whilst taking a seat behind the table.

"I go by Sir Wystern, but please, no enemies here, call me Wys. I like to talk to people on friendly terms."

"Very well, Wys. Let's not waste anymore daytime, I'm sure we have things to do and people to see."

"I couldn't agree more," Wys said, beaming pleasantly. The Sergeant was looking over a document, making several kinds of confused faces. He was alternating between looking at Wys, then back at the documents and then back at Wys again. The Knight smiled, that background usually had that effect on people.

"Okay, let's start with the basics. You have been born in Sunberth, is that correct?"

"Yes."

"You are an orphan?"

"Yes," he sighed and looked away for a second. That was almost a little personal.

"Your legal guardian was Sir Jacob Solus, correct?

"Yes."

"And he was the one that picked you up from that place?"

"That is correct."

"Alright, Wystern, Wys, I would like you to tell me how you were found by Sir Jacob, with details."

"Heh, no problem," the Knight said with a smile that made the clerk look uncomfortable. Wystern shifted his weight in the chair, got cozy, clenched his fingers together, and a blank look spread over his face, replacing the strange grin. "My parents, Diana and Trem,I can't really remember my last name, they died when I was six. They were murdered before my eyes actually, and I hid in the attic, spying from a hole in the floor. I don't really remember why, all I heard was some some talk, about some statuette, where it was and blah blah blah. I can't recount the whole monologue, I was six. I guess it left a slight mental scar on me. I think I was born with a condition where I couldn't feel fear, just anxiety. Adrenaline can set in calmly because I need it, not because I'm afraid . Maybe that's where PTSD comes, I don't really know, I coped by stealing."

"Stealing, really?" asked the clerk with a crooked a brow.

"Well, how do you think I'm alive? Who gives two shykes about orphans in Sunberth anyway, right? Well, that was the whole point. I had to steal to live. You know, I guess I could say that in part the world owed me a little bit after... the incident. So yeah, I had to live somehow, right? Well, carrying on with that thought, I was employed, mind you, this guy, whose name I don't remember wanted me to sneak past these guys from point A to point B, carrying some drugs and avoiding the soldiers of the rival cartels. It is a miracle I'm alive actually. Miracles continue, a man came by, he called himself Rogue."

"The man whose funeral you have visited recently?"

"The one and only. Obviously, a fake name, but he was consistent with it, never called himself anything else. He stayed for a year, doing some odd jobs, then he disappeared and reappeared a decade later, and then a year later I have new that he is dead. Who would have known? Anyway, he taught me some good stuff. My parents already taught me how to read and write, but Rogue... Rogue taught me how to hide and steal. He was really good at it. Picking pockets, slicing purses, not the skills I use today, I have no desire or need for it. It's a disgusting affair, really."

"So, you were doing that kind of thing until Jacob found you?"

"Yes."

"How did he find you?"

Wystern's face almost showed a venomous grin. "Well, that little group of drug dealers were trying to make a deal. What's worse than a drug deal going bad? Easy question, a drug deal that goes bad and then involves a Syliran Knight. Did you know that Jacob was a katana master at that time? Yeah, they didn't. The guy damn near killed me too, but just couldn't. Actually took me in so I wouldn't stray back to my old life (pity, he almost succeeded). The rest is pretty mundane and on the records. With the set of skills I have brought, it only took me eight years to become one of Syliras's finest."

The clerk twirled the pencil in his fingers, thinking about what he should write. "That's quite a story, Wys. And it all seems to check out with what I have here. Now, the question remains, are you still able to serve, after two years of service and a trip back to Sunberth."

"No doubt; or I wouldn't doubt it," Wystern said with a pleasant smile. The clerk quickly scribbled something down.

"Very well, you are dismissed. We expect to see you back here at ten bells reporting in."

"Yes, Darek," Wys said whilst getting up and flexing his shoulder blades.

"Oh, and one more thing, Wys. We'll be watching," the clerk said as the Knight had his hand on the doorknob. A darker smile ran on Wystern's face, hidden by the angle and the shade, but there wasn't a reply, just a little squeak and the door swung back, ending the meeting..

Training:Skills

Skills and Weapons of a Syliran Knight.

Weapon - Katana: 38 (30 Starter Package)
Wystern's style is focused more on speed and precision than brute force. It is a combination of one defensive defensive and one offensive styles and the end result values the flow of force, fluidity, and footwork. In a nutshell, the most significant parts of the style are the movement patterns and the reflexes of the user.

Shield: 22/30 (20 Starter Package)
Wystern was taught how to combine the blade and the shield as a part of the general training. The shield is less weapon and more armor as the katana will forever remain the main offensive power.

Horse Riding: - 10/30 (10 Starter Package)
Again it is a part of Wystern's Training. Horses are just about the only animals Wys can put up with, and even then he sees horses only as a method of transportation, or food at time of desperation.

Weapon - Crossbow: 6/30 (5 Starter Package)
Frankly, fighting with honor only works when you aren't outnumbered, or out of reach, or too lazy to walk.

Weapon - Shortbow: 2
A crossbow's slightly faster but dimmer older brother.

Weapon - Wakizashi: 2
A katana's less effective and shorter spawn. Probably a woman's weapon.

Weapon - Dagger: 1
The use of an assassin's dagger is a really old Skill Wys picked up way back when he was a kid and living at Sunberth. He used to be better with a knife, but time flies, and with a lack of practice, some things one just forgets. But he never forgets to carry that blade.

Unarmed Combat: 1
Wys knows a couple of hold and throws he learned while in training.

Arcana
Meditation: 2
Calm mind leads to less overgiving.

Reimancy: 1 (Air)
To dabble into Reimancy seemed like a fantastic idea at the time. Now Wys can't get enough of it, too bad it's not that great. Yet.

Movement and Physical

Acrobatics: 7
Wys knows how to do a few simple acrobatic techniques like a handstand and a few flips.

Running: 1
Because walking is slow.

Stealth: 1
Another skill he picked up a long time ago, but has long lost since his childhood. He still practices it every now and then, but it's significantly more difficult to sneak in plate armor.

Social.
Observation: 7
Observe and learn.

Larceny: 1
Again, another skill he picked up during childhood. This one Wystern doesn't practice for obvious reasons.

Rhetoric: 8
To be a smart-ass.

Interrogation: 2
It is nice to learn things from those who do not want to tell.

Reassurance: 1
Wys has no idea how people think he is reassuring. Ever.

Negotiation: 2
To get himself out of some annoying situations, Wys learned to negotiate. Badly.

Philosophy: 1
The Knights lay a small foundation of ideas and morals that Wys sometimes interprets loosely.

Intimidation: 2
It doesn't take a genius to pull a blade out and threaten somebody.

Teaching: 5
Wys occasionally teaches people what to do in the line of duty.

Investigation: 1
Comes with the job.

Traveling.

Wilderness Survival: 1 (Forest)
Wys spends some days outside of Syliras in the forest, but never longer than a couple of days.

Trapping: 1
Starving's not fun.

Wystern - Syliran Knight

General Information :
1. What is your Name?

Wystern. I have a second name, Solus, but I never use it. Don't ask why.

2. Do you go by a nickname or pet name?

When my master picked me up, he called me Crow. I was wearing this silly mask that had raven feathers in it when he met me. I hated the nickname at first, but then it stuck with me. I'm sometimes more known as Crow than Wystern to other Knights.

3. How old are you?

Just hit twenty last Spring.

4. What is your height?

About five-foot ten. Closer to eleven, I'd say.

5. What is your weight?

About two hundred pounds. I fit the necessary body mass index of the Syliran Knights.

Aesthetics :
1. Describe yourself as you see yourself.

I'm a man by what I would consider a man be. I am a self-sufficient soldier. I, by far, am not the most handsome of all men, but looks matter little to me.

2. Describe yourself as others typically see you.

They see my eyes, they gaze at what I wear, they see the sword on my waist; they get intimidated. That followed me through my life for as long as I have been in the Order.

3. What is your favorite body feature?

My eyes. They give me this great ability to silence people.

4. How physically fit are you?

I'm as fit as it gets, and I am as healthy as I have managed to keep myself. I am fast and I am content with my strength.

5. How do you typically dress and what is your style?

I dress in mostly dark colors. I'm laid-back, trying to deny my face any opportunity to reveal what I'm thinking.

Family :
1. Who are your parents and what are they like?

Diana and Trem Syron. Deceased.

2. Do you have any brothers or sisters?

Honestly, I have no idea. Maybe I do, maybe I don't. I couldn't find any information on anyone going by my last name.

3. What is your extended family like?

My grandparents are probably dead too. My mother and father both had a sister. I think Nyx's sister-whose name I can not remember as I was too young-is in Syliras, or Riverfall, or Ravok, or...Sorry about that, they are hard to track. Anyway, the one from Trem's side lives in Ravok, or maybe Zeltiva or Lhavit. I didn't really look for them.

4. Do you consider close friends as important or more/less important than family?

I don't have many close friends, and I have virtually no family, so I can't really judge.

5. Do you treat animals like family?

I treat animals like dinner.

Location :
1. Where were you born?

Sunberth.

2. Where do you live now?

Syliras.

3. If you could live anywhere in Mizahar where would that be?

No idea, I haven't traveled much.

4. Do you have a favorite place to vacation or spend leisure time?

Bronze Woods.

5. Where do you fear to be?

I don't know. Not enough experience, I can tell you that I'm not afraid of Sunberth of Syliras.

Traits :
1. Do you have any physical weaknesses (disease, scars, and missing limbs?)

No diseases, no missing limbs, but as for scars, take your pick. I have plenty from my younger days, and some more recent ones. Each one has a story.

2. Are you right handed or left handed?

I'm Right-handed, but I'm working on becoming ambidextrous. I am, to a certain degree.

3. What languages do you speak? What do you sound like? Do you have an accent?

I speak common, Kontinese, and some Pavi, and I am extremely familiar with Sunberth slang. I used to have an accent in common, but not anymore.

4. Do you have any odd mannerisms, annoying habits, or other defining characteristics?

I rub my eyes to wipe the tired look off my face. Also, my voice changes when I feel some extreme emotion, it doesn't happen often.

5. Do you have (or want to get) any tattoos or piercing? Why do you have them (or will get them)?

I have a Windoak crest on the back of my neck, right below the hairline, it ends a little under my shoulders. It was a part of my knighting.

Occupations :
1. What is your occupation?

Syliran Knight, or professional soldier. Same thing, really.

2. Do you like/dislike your work? Why?

No. It gets me through my days and puts the food on the table.

3. If you could be anything you wanted to, what would you be?

A god. Next question.

4. What occupation do you admire the most? Why?

I admire anyone who fulfills their function.

5. What occupation do you lest like? Why?

Thieves. Personal experience.

Childhood :
1. What sort of child were you?

A thief, a street urchin. It is unpleasant to go into the details about it.

2. What is your favorite memory from childhood?

Being adopted by Jacob.

3. What is your worst memory from childhood?

I don't remember. Now do I want to.

4. What sort of relationship did you have with your parents?

I didn't have one, really.

5. Who was your most influential rolemodel?

The Knight that adopted me. Or maybe Rogue. It's a hard choice.

Education :
1. What sort of education do you have?

I was given education by Syliran Knights in my squirehood. They taught me how to recognize crime, my crest bears the mark to my graduation. That education also included large and small scale combat, history, discipline, respect for the code, and subtlety.

2. Do you like/dislike learning?

It depends, but mostly like. There are some things a wise man would love to be ignorant of; not that I would call myself wise.

3. Where or how did you learn most of your skills/abilities?

The Knights taught me just about everything through hands-on experience and training.

4. How do you learn best?

Fighting, seeing, hearing. Anything combat or magic-related has my attention.

5. What are your educational goals for the future?

I'm trying to learn magic and master swordsmanship.

Relationships :
1. Do you form close bonds with people? Why? Why not?

No. Lots of trust issues.

2. Do you trust people easily? If not, why not?

No. I was born in Sunberth, why do you think?

3. Do you consider yourself straight, gay, bi, or something else?

Straight. I don't have any weird fetishes. I like all women, as long as they look and act like women.

4. Have you ever been kissed? If so, describe the first time.

When I was a squire, I got into a fling. It was fun while it lasted; did I mention commitment issues?

5. Have you ever had sex? If so, describe the first time.

Slightly drunk but enjoyable nonetheless.

Drugs and Alcohol :
1. Have you ever been drunk? If so, describe your first time.

Yes, it was about five years ago. Nightmares, next question!

2. Do you like to drink on a regular basis?

To help me sleep. I don't get hammered or anything, just a few drinks or shots.

3. What sort of alcohol do you prefer?

Ale, beer, wine, it's all the same to me.

4. Have you ever tried drugs (mood altering substances)? If so, which kinds and what did you think of them?

No. On second thought, maybe. I don't remember.

5. What do you think of drugs and alcohol? Be specific.

Escape is an escape.

Likes and Dislikes :
1. What are your hobbies?

A bit of camping, sparring, walking in the city.

2. Do you like to read?

Yes.

3. What annoys you more than anything else?

Ignorance, my own and not.

4. What do you find the most relaxing activity to do?

Drinking and sleeping.

5. What kinds of things embarrass you? Why?

I don't really have anything specific, so the things that embarrass any other person would embarrass me.

Favorites :
1. What is your favorite color or colors?

Black, green, and gray.

2. What is your favorite time of day?

Dusk.

3. What is the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen?

A Konti healer.

4. What do you like to eat? What do you hate to eat?

Meat, bread, fruit, vegetables. I hate milk.

5. What is your favorite type of weather? Does any kind scare you?

Not too hot, but not too cold, something that we usually get around Autumn.

Outlook :
1. Are you optimistic or pessimistic?

Pessimistic when expecting something good, optimistic when expecting something bad.

2. What are your religious views?

I have two gods and a goddess to worship. Fortunately, their domains don't come in conflict.

3. Would you be able to kill?

I have before, I probably will again.

4. What are your views on sex?

What about it? It's one of the three racial survival functions, besides being a stress reliever.

5. What, in your opinion, makes a successful life?

Being born to rich parents, somewhere fancy. From personal experience, to not be afraid of using a weapon.

Actions :
1. What is the worst and best thing you’ve ever done?

Worst? I've killed. I've killed out of vengeance, that's probably bad. As for the best, I saved lives in my duty as a Knight.

2. What is your greatest regret?

Definitely not the fact that I killed out of vengeance. Probably the fact that I haven't done it sooner.

3. What is your best/worst memory?

I'm not answering that. Next question.

4. If you could change one thing about your past, what would it be and why?

Finding out more about magic when I had the opportunity.

5. What are you the most proud of doing in your life?

Becoming a Knight.

Emotions :
1. How honest are you about your thoughts and feelings with others?

I'm not. I lie about the way I feel, generally to avoid conflict and seem nicer. It's better that way. I am forced to lie a lot, my code includes only one limitation on that.

2. Do you have any biases or prejudices?

I really hate it when Kelvics get spontaneously naked. It wastes time and resources as it can offend the people. Look, I'm there to uphold the law, not make it. Also petch Symenestra and the Pycons. I'm not a particularly big fan of the Dhani either, not from what I heard.

3. What makes you happy?

Money, power, learning, women, sex, new weaponry. My needs are very easy to fulfill.

4. Who or what, if anything, would you die for?

I honestly have no idea.

5. What makes you angry?

Slavery, whorehouses. Hey, a man has to have his values, I have mine.

Relationships :
1. In general, how do you treat others?

The same way they treat me.

2. Who is the most important person in your life, and why?

I don't have one.

3. Who is the person you respect the most, and why?

Loren Dyres. Take a guess.

4. Do you have a spouse or significant other? If not, describe an ideal lover.

No. Someone who is as practiced as I am. Someone who isn't needy. Someone who would read between the lines of my words. Looks provided, of course. I think I just described the average Konti.

5. Do you trust anyone to protect you? Who, and why?

I'm rarely protected, as I'm the one who protects. Rarely do people care for my security, not with the way I carry myself.

Group Situations :
1. Do you tend to argue with people, or avoid conflict?

Whichever feels right for the moment. I am not afraid to get into a person's face, nor am I too prideful to admit defeat.

2. Do you tend to take on leadership roles in social situations?

If I have to. I can lead whenever the need arises, but I don't jump for it. Authority is a responsibility, responsibility is a burden, burdens are heavy.

3. Do you like interacting with large groups of people? Why or why not?

No. Trouble comes out of the crowds. It always comes out of the bigger crowds. Petch the crowds.

4. Do you care what others think of you?

Nope.

5. What do you think of others, in general?

Depends on who they are. I tend to generalize upon looks.

Self Image :
1. What is your greatest strength as a person?

My resilience. I don't really know how to quit.

2. What is your greatest weakness?

My stubbornness.

3. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

Stop having fear of commitment.

4. Are you generally introverted or extroverted?

Extrovert, by professional necessity.

5. Are you generally organized or messy?

Organized.

Beliefs :
1. What God or Goddess do you find most appealing, if any?

Tyveth.

2. Which God or Goddess do you fear, if any?

I don't fear any specific ones, but we piss off many, especially Rhysol.

3. Do you have any Gnosis Marks? If so, how did you receive them?

I wish.

4. What lengths would you go to to please your deity?

No idea.

5. Where do you draw the line at pleasing your deity? What is too much?

Haven't found the line yet.

Life & Death :
1. What do you absolutely live for?

I'm still trying to find that out.

2. What is the best part of life?

There's booze, money, sex. Take your pick, it's not particularly hard to please me.

3. What is the best part of death?

The fact that one can now rest. To many, death is a far better alternative to life.

4. If you could choose, how would you want to die?

Fighting the last of the slavers in Sunberth.

5. What is the one thing for which you would most like to be remembered after your death?

I will be recorded as one of the men who served to protect Syliras, and succeeded.
