This northernmost city is the home of Morwen, The Goddess of Winter, and her followers who dwell year round in a land of frozen wonder. [Lore]
Jaerith listened to Coren’s remarks and made a few notations on his paper, eyebrow raised. He was unsure of Coren’s honesty, wondering if he was really aware of all the mages in the city. He considered questioning him on it but stopped himself. He wasn’t sure if the answer would be useful or misleading. This case had enough question marks he didn’t need to add another layer by investigating the culture and connectedness of the mages in the city. That certainly brought up some interesting possibilities for after this case was solved however. Perhaps the mages in Avanthal had been given too much leniency and needed tighter controls. Simple magics were fairly tolerated in the city as a result of the plentitude of Morwen’s gnosis but simple magics never stayed simple. Everyone who dabbled ended up wanting to know more and their simple magic turned into something dangerous. It was food for thought for a later time.
Sliver’s question raised an interesting point to Jaerith. He was not well aware of the differing glyph structure from one mage to the next so the idea of perhaps telling one mages glyphs from another was quite intriguing. He waited for Coren to finish answering Sliver’s question before posing his own.
“Would you say that having sigils on the shells of these creations is a unique characteristic? Why do you suppose the creator would carve those markings onto the shell?” Jaerith asked quickly. Anything they could learn of interest about the creations themselves would be helpful. After Coren finished replying Jaerith would give Sliver the time to ask any imperative follow up questions if she so desired otherwise he would nod heavily in her direction as a sign to wrap up the proceedings so they could get Coren out of the barracks and they could get back to their other duties.
Coren shook his head at Slivers question, it was good thinking, but it wasn't broad enough, shutting out way to many variables and other options to be really valid. “Not at all, It just means I do not know the mage who created these glyphs, or the one who he learned it from or any potential pupils. Actually seeing as how hard it is for outsiders to reach avanthal and to live in it for a length of time in any comfort I don't really see a mage traveling to this place just to let his creations lose on an unsuspecting populace and get away with it. Unless the mage has some kind of motive for it to justify the trip through the wilderness or paying for a boatride, acquiring a workshop and materials and so on. Seems like to much effort for something without a decent payoff. If its a vantha lots of those reasons and troubles just fall away.” Coren threw out his reply to Sliver, hoping it satisfied her.
As Jaerith asked him a question he just shrugged. “They are far from unique, though I know enough about glyphing that they are something that doesn't have anything to do with the magic that is animating the automatons. The glyph's are a self destruction device to prevent tampering. Something that should have been quite obvious for everybody who has seen what happened when the automatons where touched.” Those where all basic characteristics of glyphing, things one could usually figure out from legends and hearsay if one was a bit smart and had some sense, admittedly those two qualities where quite rare around here. Still, if it made him able to distractt hem with some common knowledge and keep his rarer knowledge hidden he wasn't one to complain about it.

Sliver nodded, his answer not totally unpredictable. The part about the destructive glyphs wasn't a large shock for the Kelvic either, if there was one thing she could understand about mages it was the fact that they couldn't stand other people discovering, learning, or gods forbid copying their work. Prideful bastards that they were. Speaking of, Sliver glanced at Coren. She racked her brain for some other tidbit or thing that she could ask him for, but it took her only moments to come up blank and empty, and she stood slowly, indicating that Coren could stand as well.
"I think Jaerith will agree that this line of questioning has reached it's conclusion. The Icewatch thanks you for your cooperation."
It sounded almost mechanical, but despite the wolverine's every attempt at being professional, she flashed Coren a sympathetic smile, trying to apologize for the event. It was necessary, but she felt bad at how off put Coren had seemed during the whole endeavor, despite her own misgivings.
The Kelvic glanced at Jaerith and headed towards the door, following his lead.
The answers Coren supplied them with made sense to Jaerith and gave him a few good ideas about how to continue searching for the mage responsible for the mess those creations had made. Certainly Coren’s logic concerning the unlikelihood of a foreign suspect was sound and worth following up on. Hearing Sliver’s words of conclusion, Jaerith nodded and heaved a sigh. They had gotten a few clues to point them in a particular direction, but Coren had remain somewhat tight-lipped, and severely displeased, for most of the questioning. That’s how it went sometimes. Some people were more likely to talk than others.
“Right this way please, Coren.” Jaerith said simple and opened the door. He led Coren and Sliver around through the hallways until they reached the exit for the building. Holding the door open, Jaerith allowed Coren to pass through and shut the door firmly behind him. Turning to Sliver he crossed his arms over his chest and sighed again. He disliked this part of the work and it was even worse when the suspect was uncooperative. He had a feeling Coren would not want to share a drink at the Red Diamond anytime in the near future, perhaps ever in fact. Not that he had shared many drinks with the man, but Jaerith was a friendly Vantha and disliked being disliked.
“Well, let’s get on with some training. Smacking somebody around seems like a good way to follow this up. So, what did you think? Not the greatest suspect for your first time, but that’s how it goes. Some talk. Some don’t. At least we can probably rule him out as the perpetrator.” Jaerith said with a dry chuckle.
Sliver watched as Coren was guided from the barracks her mind contemplating the possibilities. She wondered if the mage who was doing this, who she was almost positive would not be coming to these questionings, if he or she thought like Coren did. Was this just their natural response to all the injustice they had seen in the City, all of these strange animated creatures test subjects for a final attack that would act as revenge? Was it purely to gain more knowledge without caring who it injured in the process? She was ashamed to admit that with all the things happening in the city the Mage had been the issue she was least concerned with, the injuries caused by his or her work were nothing compared to the horrible fatalities occurring at the hands of rampaging animals, and Sliver's focus was so bent on stopping it in any way she could, this plight had fallen by the wayside for her. She bit her lip thoughtfully, wondering if the two events were somehow connected, then shook the thought from her head. Even if they were it wasn't going to help her now, one thing at a time.
The Kelvic turned to Jaerith, who looked as worn out as she. She liked the man, not there were too many people in the Icewatch to dislike per se, but she saw the way he interacted with veteran members as well as green recruits, and how he handled tense situations in the city with calm control. She smiled at him.
"Wasn't so bad, though don't sign me up for permanent interrogator or anything."
Sliver glanced in the direction Coren had exited.
"I think you're right about that. He has some secrets, but I doubt animating creatures that bite people's hands off is one of them."
She smirked and the two Icewatch guards headed outside towards the Stadium where the familiar calls of Eyrwen barking orders and insults could already be heard echoing outside of the arena.
Coren stood up from his chair as both of the icewatch agreed the interrogation was done, not wanting to waste any more time in this situation then he honestly had to. “Good, I hope this wasn't as huge a waste of your time as it was for me.” Coren curtly said to both of them, giving a nod to Sliver at her apologetic smile. He didn't really blame either of them for this in the back of his mind he really knew that this was a rather logical idea., still just because it was a logical idea didn't mean he had to enjoy being interrogated for no good reason at all.
Coren followed sliver and Jaerith as they led him outside, keeping silent all the way. He just walked out of the door. Giving both of them a curt goodbye and went of to his bussines. Leaving the icewatch barracks behind.

Notes: Well we didn’t get any earth shattering information out of Coren but I think Sliver definitely got a look at an aspect of Icewatch she may not have been aware of before. Nobody likes to be the one who has the ask the frustrating or annoying questions but someone has to do it and that is usually the group of authority. I can’t see questioning witnesses ever being a particularly enjoyable task for Sliver, lol. Thanks for participating in my thread.

Notes: You managed to keep the Icewatch out of too much of your business and certainly made things uncomfortable for your interrogators. I’d say they won’t come knocking on your door anytime soon, so congrats! Your animation projects are safe, for now at least. Thanks for participating in my thread!
