Summer 10 421
Vick was taken away from his work as he was called upon to help with magecrafting. This was not the first time he doing magecraft for he had done it awhile ago. A rather large order came in the island and since Vick was nearby he was called to help. While he could have turned it down he knew it was not wise to do so.
He was hoping he would get some of the profit for the project but he that was not the point as he slowly drew the sigils along the work area. The sigils had to be done very carefully and since Vick still was far from being a expert in the field he had to take a lot more time. He made three rows of sigils, on the outside he had his normal boxes with V’s inside them. On the center he had the Nader-Canoch which meant stable. Really it was his hopes to keep the wild magic more stable when he was going to work on the project.
Yet once he was done with writing the sigils he just washed them away with water and a cloth before redoing it once more. Again and again he just kept having to re do the work since he kept seeing it as not good enough.
It was not until one of the older Nuits came by and did his sigils for him that Vick could start his work. He was in one of the open labs but since he was doing this for someone else he had a few older nuits more skilled inthe art of magecrafting and sigil making. It was so they could get more done in shorter time or at least that was what Vick was told. This still felt like a test to him on some level as he started work.
Work that would last for awhile. The project or at least his project was to magecraft arrows so they could use magic. The first arrow was placed on the pedestal and the lenses around the pedestal were moved in place to watch it. They could see the aura better than Vick could so he could keep track of the djed from the item. He had made mistakes more and did not keep a close enough eye on his work but he learned his lesson that day as he took a small hammer and stuck the arrow. Starting the long work that he had to focus on.
Each arrow would take five days to perform. He could only open the djed pathways to use low level magic but that would be enough from what he was told. Another mage would come by after some point and fuse his or her magic with the arrow before it was done. He had to do this with ten arrows; it would seem this project was taken by a rather rich person that wanted arrows to do different effects from opening voids upon hitting the target to blowing them up with fire.
Vick was rather shock really for the price for just ten arrows was going to cost around 30,000 gold and this was just Vicks job. He did not know anything else or who the buyer was but he was set to work without question.
The hammer fell upon the arrow over and over again as Vicks own djed flared to life around his eyes as he saw the djed itself. He saw with each hit of the hammer that the pathways along the arrow were shifting ever so much. He kept going back and forth from his own djed to looking in the lense to keep a close eye on the work non stop as he kept hitting away with the arrow.
It was going to take five days of hard work trying to turn this arrow into a magical arrow of death. Hammer strike after strike fell upon the middle of the arrow as he kept his unblinking eyes upon his work. It had been so long since he first started working in the island but he had kept focus on task and not letting his mind wander around like it use to.
Thud. Thud. Thud. Thud. The hammer just kept striking the arrow now moving along the bottom side of it. It had just been a few Bells but Vick had kept calling forth his djed to see the item and uses the tools around him to double check his work. A few nuits came around and checked up as well like they did with the room.
No talking was done just the sounds of hammers hitting objects were in the room. This was how the island was normally. Just the sounds of tools filling the air without any talking. It was life in the island and Vick knew this very well. He normally stayed by himself alone in his own private lab but it was nothing new when he was forced to work alongside others. It had been a while really due to his rank he was able to be alone with his thoughts. Yet soon he might have had a student or two under his wing or at least he was hoping that.
Thud. Thud. Thud. Thud. More hammer sounds along the arrow as he kept his eyes on the work. With each new strike he saw the pathways move more and more. He was going to have to let it rest for awhile before working on it more. While Nuits could work forever this magic could not. If he kept at it the djed pathways could become a danger and blow up more or less so with that after a full days work he placed the hammer down and left to his lab.
He had worked roughly ten bells on the hammer and arrow and he was not done by a long shot. This world magic, Magecrafting, was boring to him but he knew what could be done with it. So many powerful artifacts could be made out of the branch. While Vick could make Artifacts out of bones magecraft made things so much more even if it took more funding to do so. It was the peak of artifacts if you had the money to spend.
He just took a seat in his lab and closed his eyes for once. He had to go to the office and fill out a few requests. He knew this but he was happy to be back in his own office where his word was law. At least to a point but with a mental shrug he stood and went to the office. Another quiet trip and soon he was filling out two forms.
____
| Request: Bones, human - Skilled in Philtering. Blood would be a bonus.
| Request: Student(s). Would like to have a apprentice.
|
____
It was a simple request but the human bones would be very nice for a new project. To try to harness the power of someone skilled in that field so he could use it for himself or others to get a more understanding of the field even if not trained. The apprentice would just be a nice bonus so he could get more work done or at least get better people skills.
