He missed her.
He missed her when the sun rose and when it set.
He missed her day and night, when he was working and when he was at home.
It had been a few months, but the memory – and the pain – were still fresh in his mind.
He had thought going to the Spires would be a good idea. The people on the ship that would have taken them to Zeltiva had grown to hate her. She had had bad memories of Zeltiva and her old master.
Hatred and bad memories would have been better than this here. At least she would have been with him and not have gone mad and disappeared.
He had loved her. He still did. She had given him hope. For a moment there had even been the possibility of a family, a child, although that had of course been an illusion.
Sometimes he could see her face in front of him. Would things have been different if they had been bonded, if they had married?
Would she not have disappeared then?
A knock on the door pulled him out of his thoughts abruptly. For a moment he looked around, completely confused.
It took him a while to realize what was going on. He was at Nature’s Nurture, in one of the examination rooms where he was preparing a few salves for the patients he would have to treat that day.
He walked over to the door and opened it. One of the nurses, a red haired human woman with lots of freckles stood on the other side.
„You have a patient“, she told him. „A Jamoura girl. She’s hurt her hand. Can I send her in?“
It was then that she noticed the look on his face.
„Are you alright, doctor? Shall I tell the patient to wait for a few moments?“
He shook his head. He didn’t want to talk to her about it right now. Maybe a patient and a bit of distraction were exactly what he needed.
„Send her in.“
