[TFoCH] Hopes In A Fountain

“Make a wish?”
This puzzled Gale.

Make a single wish?

He could wish for anything. Not that it would come true, but he could waste a Miza on the fountain and put his faith to the test, even though there wasn’t much to test with. But what would he wish for? The only thing he ever thought he wanted, the one thing he had hoped for and was in his grasp, was thrown away since he knew it was wrong. You don’t disturb the dead. They had their time and they deserve peaceful rest without a rude awakening. But once that was eliminated, what did Gale want?

What did he truly want?

He glanced up at Ricky, after staring at the ground. The coin flipped dozens of times and splashed with a kaplunk on the water. Of course Ricky’s wish would be revolved around his house or better days, considering yesterday was a pretty horrible way to come home. If Runo was going to make a wish, it definitely wouldn’t be for sanity. She made a point about despising it when they had first met. What would she want? Someone to talk to her all the time? Someone to comfort her when she needed to be?

Gale had a home. He might lose it soon, considering the Inn wasn’t a permanent home and he had been there a while, but he had one now. He had friends of the sort. People who would talk to him. There’s Ricky, Valo was a nice guy, Emery was enjoyable company. He didn’t need comfort since he already had that if he did need it. So what did he need?

“You wanna make a wish Runo?” He questioned, not knowing if the girl had any currency on her to offer the fountain. Considering she’s insane and such, it’s not out of the picture that she could have lost them, spent them, or just flat out threw them away. Maybe she did have some, he didn’t know. But he’d offer one of his if she didn’t and, of course, she wanted to do so. He pulled his “pouch” out of his pocket and pulled a miza out.

He looked at the water fall and splash. Thoughtfully, he held the copper miza between his index and middle finger. “Hm. Wishes…You never know what you really want, do you?” Gale said more to himself then to either of the two. It was almost as if they weren’t even there as he thought about it.

Every day, Gale would trudge out and talk to air. He’d come back and draw something interesting, maybe get a drink and meet someone at the Kelp Bar. He’d walk home and maybe do something like be a guide or run into someone he knew a while back. Then he’d go home and sleep through the night till the morning he’d start all over. Once in a while something would happen that would shake things up a bit. His mother’s death.
Hana’s death.David’s murder. His father’s reappearance. Things like that happen, indeed. He wasn’t denying that. He wasn’t rejecting them either, for some reason. He didn’t know why, but he didn’t wish those events away. He didn’t wish any of it away.

What did he want?

Gale repeatedly questioned himself. What was that desire in the back of his mind, the bottom of his heart he wanted to do? What he wanted? To be a father perhaps? But you don’t wish for that sort of thing. That’s one of those things that you just can’t change, no matter how much luck you had. No matter how much help you had. To be a true father there needs to be love and love can’t be given through wishes. All you need is patience with something like that. Like he always believed, it’ll happen when you’re one with another. So he couldn’t wish about that.

But what? Did he want anything at all?

Gale starred down at his hand, his face blank with just a hint of a frown. Flipping the coin between his fingers, he just stood there.

[TFoCH] Hopes In A Fountain

Postby Runo on December 2nd, 2012, 2:30 pm

Whatever could you wish for my dear?

That was the question, wasn’t it? When everything has gone wrong, what was there to wish for? Wishing for every little thing to become better… so petty, childish even… but… Racking her brains, Runo rose to her feet, eyes never leaving the ground. The old man could have his wish for himself.

He needed it.

“Hmm… I see no harm in a wish,” Runo whispered, withdrawing a lone nilo from within her worn pocket, twirling it around in her fingertips, eyes still fixated upon the stonework below, “though it may not be a very good wish.”

Crossing to the fountain, Runo’s hand that clutched the nilo shook. Whether from fright of judgment or simply madness, Runo would never know. Bowing her head, Runo gazed at the beautiful water of the fountain; unlike the fisherman who she felt from his words found solice in the waters, Runo could find… nothing, the water inspired no hope in her.

It struck her then that it was a possibility that old man was to wish her away, glancing back she met his eyes, no, he wouldn’t… would he? Turning her attention back to the fountain she was greeted with a horrendous surprise, she spat the bile that rose in her throat when she noticed her reflection in the glistening water. In Runo’s jumbled head her image distorted the beautiful water and became the only thing she could herself focus upon.

Raising the hand with the nilo high above her head, Runo let go of a cry and slammed the coin into the water, “leave me!” banishing her reflection into watery ripples. She stumbled back to the old man, though refusing to meet his eyes, nor the eyes of the fisherman, “stupid I know, but that was Runo’s wish and it sure makes sense to me.”

So you’d like to live without me?

[TFoCH] Hopes In A Fountain

She too had taken a chance in the one nilo she carried, and she wasn't afraid to share her's with them. Of course in this type of situation she was in she was likely to wish it, just as Ricky was bound in earnest for something to change in their future. The only one that hadn't made his wish yet was Gale, of course he was offering his nilo to Runo as a kind gesture. Had she not had one then he would've had a reason to offer, but now that she made her wish the reason was gone.

Ricky let a friendly smile release itself to Gale as he waited in anticipation, wondering if the artist was going to take a leap of faith now as they did. There would be no judgement from Ricky when Gale would make his choice, there would be that respectful boundary; the understanding in the fact as to why Gale would choose his next option. The decision was upon the artist now as he clearly had no way to create an excuse, what he would choose would be a path he was certain to follow. Whatever path he chose it was certain there would be consequences, whether they be good or bad, big or small, sooner or later; the effects of his choice would ripple out until they affected him. This was the way things tend to work in life, or at least most of the time anyway. That was all something that remained to be seen, as the artist still now had the choice to make....what would Gale decide?

OOCA MILLION apologies for the lack of punctuality. I'm getting around to everyone so hopefully I'll start picking up my pace for you guys so I'm not such a hassle.

It was a long pause. A very long pause before Gale had come to a decision.

Was he going to wish for the better of himself? No. Was it for the better of his new companions? Nope. Wish for anything at all?

"Nah, I think I will save it for a time I really need it." Gale pocketed the Miza and looked up at the two with a smirk that was placed subconsciencly upon his lips. "You do not want to be wasting a wish on something you do not need, am I correct?"
This particular belief was on of the few that remained the same for the hypocrite. Some of the ideas he had shifted and got reworded to "fit" a particular situation so he had/didn't have to do something because it was "against his beliefs". He wasn't much for supernatural things but if there was such a thing as luck then what's the point of wasting it if it is not something of neccessity?

OOC :
Wrapping this up so we can turn it in. ;) Great job you two, you really helped capture the element I was after.

Gale had taken a different path, where the two believed in a wish they wanted he decided not. Ricky respected and even admired such a choice, the ability to decide that he needed nothing made him able to choose not to wish. Whether the fountain would live up to its reputation was a matter of personal belief, and the three had acted upon what they believed.

Ricky and Odis decided to go ahead and take a walk around Zeltiva to see what all had changed, leaving Gale and Runo to be together once more as "master and apprentice" from what he knew. Of course the leave wasn't done without a see you later and such, and even more so that still made Gale and Runo sticj to his mind. Ricky and Odis were back home now and things will hopefully start to look up, and from here on out they would start looking out for their friends...
