The Wilderness of Cyphrus is an endless sea of tall grass that rolls just like the oceans themselves. Geysers kiss the sky with their steamy breath, and mysterious craters create microworlds all their own. But above all danger lives here in the tall grass in the form of fierce wild creatures; elegant serpents that swim through the land like whales through the ocean and fierce packs of glassbeaks that hunt in packs which are only kept at bay by fires. Traverse it carefully, with a guide if possible, for those that venture alone endanger themselves in countless ways.

I'm smarter than you bird-brain... The thought rolled through his mind as he watched the falcon fly in circles like the predator it was, mirroring its' direction by turning with it. Come down here, yeah, thats right- Bloodfight crouched a little as he got ready, winding himself up for the swing. He wanted to be precise, he wanted to hit the falcon, he wanted to see it spiral down and crash- stomp on it, mutilate it; the determination he held in his eyes, the tenacity in his form despite being in pain. The adrenaline kept him going, flowing through his body, so he hardly thought of the stings in his feet or the burn in his arms let alone the now throbbing pulse in his back from where he had landed on it, he was not some wussy baby lost in the wilderness.

Even though he kinda was now lost on where he was exactly.

Inhaling, he moved his shoulders to the sides and feeling them crack, exhaling, narrowing his eyes as it would come down to be a few feet above. The stick was skinny, but it had been thick and strong enough to support the halfling before it broke when he had spread his weight on the weaker end. The length of it was long, maybe half a Bloodfight arm span long, perhaps shorter, he couldn't compare the two at the moment. Every inch the falcon got closer, the lower he went, arching the stick behind him and using the grass as coverage, its bark brown color would blend maybe with the gold and yellow stalks. The smaller he became, the more tense he was as he readied himself to spring out from the grass, to jump that few extra feet.

Bundling the muscles in his legs, he got ready as the falcon was no more than a few feet away. Just as the falcon would be close, just barely above him, Bloodfight sprung from the grass and made maybe a foot upwards from the jump. The stick acted as the extension and was wildly swung from above, and down low with the momentum of it. When he touched the ground in the briefest of seconds, he darted as quick as he could, and away from the falcon, taking care to watch where the stalks began in the ground so as to not disturb them. With his tall frame, he had to crouch extra low, he didn't know if he had hit the bird- he was still listening for that thud on the ground or a rustle of grass to signal it had fallen.

Those screeches the bird had screamed at him, had not detered him, but he couldn't let himself be afraid of something much smaller than him right now- even if it could fly. Bloodfight was determined to make it dead, and have it for food, proove to those predators of flight he was just as good as them.

The Hunters Chance (Khida)

Postby Khida on November 30th, 2012, 11:42 pm

He sank down into the grasses, lower and lower, until the approaching falcon couldn't make out anything at all of the man-creature himself -- only the disruption in the pattern of the grass which his relative bulk created. Was he hiding? Or... was he preparing to pounce, as a cat might?

Could he pounce like a cat?

Doubt and uncertainty continued to raise their heads, rousing the natural caution of a wild thing until it finally surpassed the falcon's offended ire. Uncertainty meant risk, risk could mean injury, and out here, injury would almost certainly be fatal. If not at the creature's hands, then as food for any of a multitude of other things, or by sheer ill fortune. Caution urged Khida to slow, and she did, flaring her wings out to reduce the speed of her approach. Caution urged Khida to fly back up into the safety of greater altitude, which she hesitated momentarily over.

Then a big brown blur swept through the air in front of her.

Because she had slowed, his bat didn't come crashing down on the falcon; she squawked in sheer surprise as it whistled before her, and instinctively dove away from the impromptu weapon. For sake of that instinct and his evasive dash, she didn't run into the stick as it slanted through the level of her flight, though this was a close thing; Khida felt the wind of its passage ruffle her feathers, which didn't help her keep a steady course either. But while she crashed down into the grass stalks opposite Bloodfight, the bird managed to recover before going all the way to the ground; and his hesitation gave her time to clamber back up into the sky.

As she climbed, Khida reflected on the near miss -- and the whole fracas, while she was at it. Caution dictated she should call it quits and fly away from it all. The rest of her mind rather agreed, because when it came down to it, she had nothing here to defend -- nothing to keep her fighting, past that initial outrage.

Caution maybe had something going for it, right now.

OOCWould you like to wrap this up? Khida shall fly off in a generally easterly direction.

The Hunters Chance (Khida)

Bloodfight held his breath waiting for the crash of the falcon as he made a half turn around through the grasses, circling the area slowly to come up behind where the bird would have been, with his own heart thudding against his chest harder demanding he should breath. The halfling kept holding his breath still, waiting, straining his ears for the rustling stalks of the grass where the falcon may have landed but instead- flapping. He heard the sounds of the falcons wings flapping into the air, from his crouched position he breathed and then straightened up, darted to try and catch the bird now ascending into the sky by lunging- he missed by a mile.

Catching himself just barely before he would touch ground, he stayed there, kneeled and hidden in the grasses, the shadow of the bird now flying away from him.

He straightened up this time, eyes widened and surprised; that bird was flying away from him. HIM. Just like the last bird (or perhaps this was the same bird), Bloodfight felt his own blood begin to boil in his body. Why were birds such cowards? Just because they could escape danger by taking flight and hiding in the sky?! Growling, he felt his body move slowly as his temper burned, arching his arm back with the hand holding the stick and threw it hard into the air after the east heading bird. The stick, being as it was, made a few turns in the air before gravity would finally take it and send it spiralling into the grasses mere yards away from Bloodfight. It would never had hit the bird in the first place, it was far too high in the sky to begin with.

Screaming at it, he stayed where he was- much like a child and gripped his head, pulling at his hair and sinking back into the grasses. Eyes being squeezed tightly shut, his whole body began to tighten, tense, and shake as he contained his rage. Bloodfight stayed like that, rocking back and forth for an hour, usually he would always let his anger loose but it also resulted in him hurting himself more so than his brawls and fighting did. The falcon had already done its damage, both of them, maybe, he was pretty sure now it had been the same bird as last time. There was no reason to travel so much farther away, heck, if he went and did something stupid now- there was the great possibility his ruckus would attract bigger things to him.

Finally he would stand up and begin locating his items, and then going to the strenuous task of collecting the petchable bird snare. He could not reach it, or take it down by being on the ground, so he put all his weight on the tree and leaned; bending it downwards until finally he could sit on some of the branches and begin fighting with the snare to take it off. When he got off, the tree shot back up, though slightly bent and disfigured, from where the most strain in the thin trunk there had been, looked as if it had started to snap in half. Bloodfight didn't care in the slightest, he looked to the east, the direction which the bird had gone and began to travel that way.

He had no clue which way the bird had went after a good few hours now, in the time of those few hours of travel he had effectively made himself lost in the grass.

Secret :
:P Yeah, that sounds good, I'll turn it in.

Witty Remark Here
Entertaining thread. I can feel the annoyance in your writing, Blood. Good stuff. And as always Khida, great job on that animal curiousity. You're extremely consistent with that, and I appreciate it a ton! :)If you have any questions or concerns regarding your grade, please send me a PM and we can figure it out. :)
