Character Concept

Some say that stories are told to merely entertain. To the people of the Aurora Borealis, stories are life.

Lving up in the cold north, the people are taught the ancestor's tales from when they are born till the day they die. According to ancient lore of the Vantha, a tale forgotten is a tale not worth remembering. There is a great price to pay when one cannot speak the tales of old.

When the world outside is consistently blanketed with white, there is nothing more one can do but listen to the ancient stories spoken by the elders of the hold. They are the very essence of who the Vantha are. Even their artwork and craftsmanship have a stories to tell whether it be carved or woven into its form or created as it was being made.

Being the oldest living race in the world of Mizahar, these beings are a site to behold. Aside from the deeply vivid coloring of their eyes that tend to shift according to their mood, most display dark black hair and almond or golden brown skin tones. It is often said that the Vantha have hair that shimmers as if it is reflecting the lights of the Aurora.

The most sacred and well known stories tell of how the ancestors descended upon Mizahar using the colored pathways that hang in the heavens amidst the stars. The colors alone are proof that each story told is as real as the face telling the tale. No other place in Mizahar has had the opportunity to behold the wondrous glory of the Aurora Borealis that the Vantha lift their eyes to see every single day. The Vantha consider themselves very blessed and fortunate to bask in its glory. Even their eyes bare the wondrous colors of the Aurora and shine like rainbows after the sky has shed its tears.

Character History

Everleigh was born of a human and a well revered man of the Vantha. Her mother was half Inarta which explains why Everleigh's coloring is quite different than her Vanthan roots. Her pale skin and red hair were beacons among the Vantha and a cause for much teasing and rejection. It was hard growing up among the dark beauties of the hold.

Wyntermoon Hold was well known for breeding reindeer and when travelers or potential buyers came to see their wares, they often mistook her for a human. It was quite heartbreaking to say the least. Her father was greatly disappointed at her birth when his daughter was brought into the world with a full head of bright red hair. When she was finally able to see and her eyes had settled into their natural color, joy filled her father's heart once again because her eyes could change colors as did all the people's of the Vantha. Unfortunately, she was to be the couple's only joy, her mother fell ill when Ever was only a few months old and was unable to bear anymore children. She has been ill and fragile ever since. This tragedy caused much sadness in the hold and Everleigh grew up never really knowing the woman her father had fallen in love with.

Everleigh grew up like most Vantha, learning the ancient stories and becoming acquainted with the many skills of her hold such as breeding Reindeer. Her father taught her to feed the Reindeer at a young age and Everleigh often found herself spending most of her time at the stables. Although she easily adapted to the ways of the Vantha, her hair never seized to stay a bright, flaming red but her eyes were always very vibrant and lively. Ever boldly accepted the blessing of the eyes of the Aurora as a gift from Morwen. Almost like a right of passage or a sign of approval. Not only was she blessed with the Vantha's eyes, she was also blessed with a sign of Gnosis. The vibrant red flowers that rested on the back of her neck and trailed down her shoulder blade and spine where quite exotic and unlike anything the Hold had seen before. Many said that Morwen had bestowed the gift of Gnosis on her in pity. They often whispered that she had the gift of storytelling.

Ever was a quiet girl, never prone to speak out of turn or over anyone else as the others did. But when it came time for her to share a story, her audience was never disappointed. Her eyes would flash and morph as her emotions swelled and ebbed along with the story. In some ways, this was the only way that she felt accepted into the hold; otherwise, the children her age would exclude her from their games and the adults would look at her with pity. This treatment was very much the reason for her quiet demeanor. At an early age, she was taught the common tongue. Her lilting Vani accent was quite lyrical and could turn any phrase into something pleasing to the ears. Not many children were privileged enough to learn the common tongue, but her father insisted that she should since she was often found among the reindeer and conversing with travelers.

On her sixteenth birthday, Everleigh was told that no husband had come forth to accept her hand in marriage. She knew why, but the news is still heart wrenching. Her parents were very saddened by this and Ever responded by taking their grief upon herself. In attempted to rid them of their sadness, Ever mounted her birthday present, a beautiful white mare, and attempts to make her way to the city of Syliras. This grand city was discussed often among the travelers. Leaving quietly in the early morning, she hoped that she would find acceptance and possibly a husband who would love her no matter what she looked like.
