The Wilderness of Cyphrus is an endless sea of tall grass that rolls just like the oceans themselves. Geysers kiss the sky with their steamy breath, and mysterious craters create microworlds all their own. But above all danger lives here in the tall grass in the form of fierce wild creatures; elegant serpents that swim through the land like whales through the ocean and fierce packs of glassbeaks that hunt in packs which are only kept at bay by fires. Traverse it carefully, with a guide if possible, for those that venture alone endanger themselves in countless ways.

Winter 20th, 503AV
Sea of Grass

The colony had just moved to another cave system, one which spiralled seemingly downwards, winding it's way quite a ways from the starting point before it would come to a circular cavern and was warmer compared to the topside. Chilly winds would blow through the passageways to end half way, flakes of white fluttered in as a light snow fall took over the dark night above. The colonys members who were able, strong, and old enough had took flight in search of food to bring back to their young ones. Especially to the new broodlings that were growing rapidly by the day, including those of one years of age, and even for their slaves.

One of those children, who was wingless yet had the appearence of a Zith, was sitting on a rather large, spherically oval grey like rock. Huddled away from the rest of the children, and definitely not near any of the other slaves that were there. There was a cold darkness in his gold eyes, not even the torch, which was lit and flickering with life could not plumb the depths of his hardened black pupils. Perhaps he was pondering on many things, reminencing, it hadn't been long before his own father had died. Quite close to over a year had passed since his fathers death as a slave, the fight that had ensued, the bloody gore, and finally the decision he had to make, the child himself.

Such experience did not leave the mind so early on, he swore he could still taste and feel the muscle, torn flesh, and blood slide down his throat. The very thought had made him gag, but he kept the stomach acid which had travelled half way up his throat, down, and in his stomach. It tasted awful, but it was no wheres near as bad as what had flitted across the childs eyes, memories, which should remain buried. No child should have had to experience that, watch their parent die, whom they had come to love despite the parent despising him for his appearence. He only had his master now, who watched out, and cared for him...

She was the reason the child hadn't been ripped apart as well, but also the one who prompted two options for him to choose: Defend his father, and die, or consume a part of his fathers remains, and live; the decision was quite evident if not gruesomely forced.

He must have made some awful faces, or perhaps his breathing had loudened, a strange liquid started to trickle from his eyes. There was a small zith girl staring at him with such an intense expression, she had been born a year beforehand with her twin sister. Her sister was right next to her as well. The boy couldn't stand one of those THINGS seeing him do such a menial action, no way.

"Go away," he clicked to her, glaring back, with more ferocity and hatred; bringing up a hand to hide his eyes, trying to shield them from her gaze.

Torch :
The torch, or light source mentioned here is one of the slaves, they are responsible for their own light sources.. and are only allowed to have 1 going at a time. So the cavern, which is pretty big to begin with, is not lit to the point it's like daylight. Most of the cavern is subdued in darkness, Bloodfight just happens to be near it, not completely in the light, but just enough to make it flicker in his eyes and keep most of the zith children and caretaker away from himself, but being close enough to the dark to keep the slaves from wandering too close to him. :P Dispelling misconceptions here.

The two yearling Zith girls stared up at the strange wingless creature, curiosity etched on their faces. One was colored a deep midnight black, so that she could hardly be seen but where the torchlight glowed off her fur. The other was a cool slate gray, with deep blue hair and matching eyes. "What's that coming out of its eyes?" said the slate girl to her midnight twin.

In response, her sister climbed right onto their strange wingless cousin's lap to sniff at the moist drops leaking out of his eyes. She spread her wings to keep her balance, which just happened to block the boy's view of her sister.

This, of course, was all according to plan. Not long before, one of the older Zith had told the twins about the horrible fate of the wingless boy. They said he didn't have wings because there was blood in him that wasn't from a Zith, and it was stopping his wings from growing, and generally making him less-than-Zith. Such a fate was too terrible for the twins to even imagine, and so the sisters hatched the perfect plan. If it was bad blood making him not a Zith, that all they needed to do was get rid of the bad blood, and he'd be a proper Zith like the rest of their family!

Which was exactly why, while her sister had him distracted, the slate-colored girl crept up and bite him on the leg, sinking her teeth deep into the fur and flesh.

More of the liquid kept seeping out of his eyes, his chest hurt, and his nose was beginning to drip on him as well. The boy kept his mouth shut and his eyes covered, his mouth trembled as he withheld the awful feelings trying to burst. He just wanted them to leave him be. Yet, they stayed there, and he understood perfectly what one of them had said. Even he could smell the salty liquid that was trickling from his eyes.. through what he could tell from the mucus.

He thought he had told them to go away, but apparently one of them decided that meant 'sit on my lap' to her.

The strange gesture had caught him off gaurd, but he froze, he remembered what the other slaves had said. To not lash out at the Zith; he had done as they said, and followed orders like a good boy would but that didn't prevent him from losing his temper with the others if they pushed him hard enough. Just this once, he did nothing against the tiny girl, she was really cute, and seemed to be harmless actually.

Leaning a bit backwards from her curious face, and sniffing nose, he scowled at her in disgust.

"What are you doing?" He stuttered in their high pitched frequencys to her "go away--" he added on, once more before yelling out in pain, sharp clicks mixed in there. The other had bit his leg, out of natural reaction, his leg jerked in her mouth and pulled upwards to try and wiggle her off. Grabbing onto the midnight girls wrists and trying to throw her off himself, he was much bigger than they even if he was scrawny.

Rather than be deterred by the boy's flailing, the two girls squealed with glee and clung even tighter to him. The seemed to think that he was playing a fun new game with them. Since she already had a pretty good hold with her mouth, she just bit down harder into his leg, wrapping her arms and legs around him and digging in with all four sets of claws to hold on as tight as Zithly possible, completely oblivious to his pain.

Her sister, meanwhile, was not terribly fond of being grabbed, but seemed to think that biting was an excellent idea. She bit on the wrist of the restraining hand until it let go, but in the process she lost her balance and tumbled off the boy, flapping her wings in an attempt to not hit the ground. At this she failed, but this gave her an even better idea. She flapped her small black wings, nearly invisible in the gloom of the cave, and rose into the air above the boy. Then as if she were targeting prey, she dived at him, screeching the play version of the Zith hunting cry.

Who would have thought the two she-devils would just cling harder on him? The slate grey girl at his leg, bit harder, tighter, and was impossible to wiggle her off himself at the same time as the other one. The pain in his leg was immense, and he swore he could feel flesh beginning to tear from the strain- now, not only was the one leg being torn, his wrist was being bitten, with more claws being dug into him. If he didn’t do something soon he would be lame, for a very, very long time.

Letting go of her wrist, he turned his body to throw her off- hearing the flapping distinctly through the air and then focused on her sister. The little demon.

The halfling reached forwards with claws awkwardly being in the way of pulling at her arms, he began to attempt and pry her off with what grip he had on her arms with no luck. Quick, short paced thoughts swelled up as panic turned to fear, he pushed up on her nose with his palm and pushed her away by the upper part of her jaw in an attempt to get her to release him at least with her sharp teeth. He started to become desperate as she only clamped harder, he now palmed her nose and partially her face and dug his own claws in- his hand connecting with her face harsher than before.

Pushing her teeth out of his leg, but deeper into the underside of his leg flesh he moved his leg with her mouth and twisted his leg to slide out and then pushing her away. Not caring anymore if he hurt the two she-devils. Having of almost completely forgotten about the midnight girl, too engrossed with trying to pry off the slate grey one from himself; even if he had been able to react to the screech, the flapping, the swoop and finally the thud of himself on the ground with her sister. The ambush had completely taken him by surprise, with him on his chest and the Midnight girl's sister elsewhere.

Out of necessity he tried to roll away- shaking off the midnight one, pushing, and wildly swinging to get away, scrambling up to do a limping run, somewheres- a nook? Cranny? Some niche of his own, to call home and safe- even for just a little while?

If such things couldn't be aquired- he wanted his Dad.

The slate girl struggled to keep her grip, but despite biting down as hard as she could, the older boy was slightly stronger (and her jaw was getting tired). When he hit her nose, she cried out at the sharp pain of it, and in the ensuing scuffle she finally lost her grip.

Before she even had time to think of reattaching herself to the boy's leg, her sister's attack hit, sending the heavy half-Zith sprawling on top of her, crumpling her wings a bit and giving her bruises in several places. As he took off running, her sister helped her recover, and in moments they we both on all fours, wings spread, eyes glowing with the deadly playful look of hunters watching their prey's futile attempt to escape.

They gave him a three tick head-start, before chasing after him, bounding a few steps and then flapping their wings to take to the air. As they approached the slowly running boy, the sisters split apart to flank him. One at a time, they flew by, scratching and nipping at his shoulders, his head, his limbs, slowly demoralizing and wounding him, rather that going for a quick kill. Their parents had taught them that hunting was much more fun if you play with your food first.

He stumbled, but began to run- tightening his hands and swinging them forwards to throw what little weight he had forwards, the wobble in his step as the pain burned harder made his adrenaline kick in faster. Being partial human, the halfling had the instinct to run when in danger; no matter the cost or the retribution for such cowardice. Safety was at it’s highest priority right now, no matter how angry he was growing. Fear, was the foremost emotion rivetting through his small body. Fighting back was not an option as there were two little Zith girls that had wings and could fly- he wasn’t any good when it came to two, or more on one fights in the first place anyways.

The halfling was sure the two behind him could smell his fear.

Ambling to the darkness, where his low light vision was at its best and he was certain he would be able to spot any hiding spots in the cave now. With each breath, he felt his chest stab him, he could taste the blood in the air practically but that wouldn’t stop him now as he went in a straight line; his eyes frantically searching for respite before finally coming to rest on a spot. Only to spaz as the two came down upon him, making him raise his hands up to shield his head and then trip promptly on a rock as he was distracted by the little monsters above him. Crashing down on the ground with a thud, roll and shriek, he gasped hard in pain at the connection.

He was so close, the halfling was so close to the spot he had seen which may or may not have been a good idea to hide in. Yet he had fallen! With stars popping up in front of his eyes! There was only so much he could take before he would break, so he curled up and tried to make himself as small as possible. Maybe the beasts wouldn’t notice him then?

The girls had completely forgotten any previous motive they may have had, the joy of the chase completely overriding everything else. When the boy curled into a ball, the slate girl caught her sister's eye and signaled her to back off a bit. It wasn't that she thought the boy had had enough torment; she had no such empathy. But she had an idea. Chasing him while he was running had been extremely satisfying, but now that he curled into a ball, he was as scared as he was going to get. If they just kept attacking him, he might get used to it, and that would be no fun.

Instead, the twins backed off, the midnight one clinging to an overhanging stalactite, the slate one landing softly a short distance away. Both quieted their movements, and tried to keep utterly still and silent. They waited for the boy's heartbeat to stop racing ever so slightly, as they try to calm their own down, worrying that he could hear theirs as well as they could.

Two pairs of eyes peered intently at the halfling. They watched for the slightest indication that he was planning to uncurl, which would indicate his belief that he was safe. Upon such a movement, both sisters attacked simultaneously, the midnight girl dropping from above to gnaw on the boy's head, the slate girl diving for his feet.

The shaking ball of mass quivered in its place, knees held to chest, head dipped inwards with arms held around his head to shield his noggin. The halfling had his eyes squeezed shut, preparing for an onslaught of attack, the anticipation made him feel sick to the stomach, frozen in place out of cold fear, he wanted to hurl. Why are they not attacking...? The halfling thought to himself, paranoia seeping in to sit next to his, metaphorically personified terror. He knew they were there- he could hear their heartbeats as well as his own. He could smell them. They were somewheres, but where? He could not place exactly.

Thud.. thud.. thud.. Thud.. thud.. thud..

Went two pairs of hearts, both very nearby but not in the same locations.

If he hadn’t been scared they might be waiting for him, he might have uncurled a bit to glance in the dark in each direction just to make sure they were gone. Straining his ears, he tried to conjure a mental image of the cave.. It was difficult. He hadn’t had the time to explore the entire area, especially when he was forced to stay near the other slaves because of a fear that the other children would bother him. The halflings fears had been well placed, this was exactly what he had not wanted, but was happening anyways- he should of stayed closer to the light that the funny, wrinkly human brought with him.

Thud. Thud. Thud. Thud. Thud.

Went his own heart, a consistent beat that still rammed against his chest but had slowed in comparison of a few chimes, maybe even what had seemed to be bells ago.

Where were the little demons? Where were they? The halfling pondered, strained his ears for their heart beats. They had quieted, they seemed distant now to him to the point he was sure he was just hearing other echoes from the cave- if they were gone then maybe he could stretch? His chest ached from being in such a position for a long time, yet he cautioned himself, there were others besides those two. First his head came up, slow, as his eyes opened a smidge to look around. His body relaxed when he saw nothing immediate, it began to uncurl, just enough for him to turn and get on his hands and knees quickly; scrambling to his feet, only to be pushed down as a small body pounced on him from above.

It wasn’t as if he hadn’t known, he had heard the flap of wings from above and the scuffle of feet from behind. He just had been too slow, and tired to react quicker than he should have. The small boy was flat on his chest with one of them gnawing on his head, and the other biting his feet and legs. So he began to promptly thrash, and he thrashed violently at the two- he was all fur and claws at that moment, sputtering threats to the two, until finally he started calling for help as they would not give up; a familiar scent was coming nearby, becoming stronger as it drew closer. One he knew all too well. His mother. With it, was the fresh scent of blood, and raw meat, sweet in its aroma of being freshly killed.

When the half-breed started thrashing around, the sister at his feet had the worst of it. She tried to bite down harder, but she didn't have a good grip in the first place. She hissed as the claws on his feet scratched her face. There was only one possibly response she could think of. She flailed her claws wildly at his kicking feet, not aiming at all, just trying to cause enough pain that he would give up and let her finish him off.

The approaching scent of raw meat reached the other sister first, and she pulled her black face up from gnawing on the boy's head, sniffing the air eagerly. She uttered a single Zith call to her sister, and suddenly they both took wing, diving straight for the approaching meal, trying to get to the choicest bits as soon as possible.
